I'd say what puts David Lynch in a different category is that he was first an artist and THEN a filmmaker. He makes his plots into a work of art as opposed to just telling you what it is.
Very nice scene. I think this sums up that one basic, driving force that is at the heart of his alternate world. A perfect him with a perferct her. The final, special moment before it all collapses, and he must face reality and accept his dark side.
What deranges me from this scene is that David Lynch appears to me not only as the best director of all time, but hes in a complete other category. I mean, I can't possibly think of a better scene in the history of cinema. And dont talk to me about your Star Wars thing of Godfather, this is the real deal.
@SingHouse I know what you mean. I've recently ended a relationship like that. I still want her but she doesn't want me. She's no Patricia Arquette tho.

Such a deeply compelling, achingly profound moment. Masterful control of the film medium in the service of expert, genius story telling. Cinematic art of the highest order. And there's Patricia Boobies, too! Narf!!
David Lynch is such a visionary I really don't think his work will be appreciated until 30 years from now. He also has this uncanny way of putting the perfect musical score to a scene from his "moving art".
i can hear his heart breacking... like the most of us have felt, we fall in love (or get obsessed) with someone who will never love us back... david lynch, me inclino ante tu genio!!
@SheCrazzzy15 Well you should check out some of his other stuff if you like this, Mulholland Drive is another great one, along with Blue Velvet and his TV series Twin Peaks
after watching this movie,i dreamed about a girl i were in love with one year ago,it was so scary, the whole day i watched it was scary.i guess I´m a weirdo o0
@zam19brotta Actually this song is called Song to the Siren, Not song of the Siren, and it was never a Cocteau Twins song. This was one of the songs Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins sang on the first This Mortal Coil album, that was specifically chosen along with other songs of previously released that artists on the 4AD label covered, as the album consisted of all covers specifically chosen for This Mortal Coil project in 1984. Liz F. and Robin G. did STTS specifically for TMC and not the CT's
oh ...how much i love this film!...el hombre tiene esta fantasía de ser joven nuevamente , de ser otro individuo , de ser viril, de volver a despertar deseo en la mujer que ama....y así y todo ella le dice: tu nunca me tendrás!!!!!! hija de la gran puta! GRACIAS LINCH POR SER TAN MISOGINO! AMO ESTA OBRA DE ARTE.
Is this clip considered pornographic? I'm not knocking the clip (well cause I like it), but I do want know if you consider this pornographic. I'm asking cause I have a blog I think i want to put ads on and one of the conditions is no pornography.
The song is called "Song to the Siren" written by Tim Buckley, this version is performed by This Mortal Coil. The full version is available on iTunes music store
I love movies from David Lynch and this is along with the Llorando scene from Mulholland drive and Locomotion dance from Inland Empire my favourite scene.
ironically this is both the movies only heart-wrenching scene, and such a beautiful song, strange that it never made it to the soundtrack for the movie. this song was at least half the reason i bought the sopundtrack anyway
In fact, this is originally a Tim Buckley song off his "Starsailor" album back from 1970 - and yes, This Mortal Coil (alias Cocteau Twins) did a most haunting and glimmering cover of this track in the mid-80s which was then used in this beautiful movie scene.
I love Patricia... thank you.

Two great actors, fantastic camera work and This Mortal Coil's brilliant cover all fits perfectly.
