@101LatinoBoy101 Thanks he was my first and actually i made many mistakes with him as i tried to learn their care but he was the best ig, we went thru alot together & he ended up being voice command trained by age 6 he lived to be 10 but i had to put him to sleep in 2000 when he got bad off & the vet couldn't save him i've had many more since him that are great but all are different :)
Kudos to you for caring enough to learn about proper iguana care and for sharing it with people! Sadly, most iguanas die prematurely due to improper, inadequate care. Thank you for your compassion!
yep your right they import about 750,000 baby igs a yr. to north america and about 95% of those will die within 2 yrs from bad care or cause people just dont research what they are getting into buying a baby ig. Thanks for the nice words :) oh and also i'm adding in closed captions on the reptileuv video and soon all of mine as soon as i can to help more people get all the info they need on iguana care.
Cats are very good at adapting to new things and your cat is just lovely and your little iguana looks very happy. It's a shame about the things you never knew you needed but it's very clear that you take great care of your animals and love them a lot.
Thanks, yea she was a stray who lived with us for 23 yrs her & my ig were good friend for a decade and yep theres just so much to know about iguana care so thats why i keep trying to make more videos & help people find the good websites they must read to give them what they need to live along time and be happy. :)
I met this lady once who had one dog out of a big bunch that would run out in the yard and protect wild iguanas from the other dogs. And the wild iguanas would chill with it on the grass. The funny thing was it was a little poodle and the other dogs were like golden retrievers
do you have to raise the iguana with the cat? because i want one really bad but i have 2 cats and they can't even stand a third cat outside the screen door..i'm afraid one will end up killing the other :(
it does seem best to get an iguana used to living with cats when they are young but not when they are babies cats can scare them to death so wait till least 1yo & only if you are VERY sure the cat wont hurt him or hurt his tail, the personality of the ig & each cat have to be right for them to get along or once the cats get hit with the tail they will usually get out the way of an ig but igs can be jealous too of other animals
if you think the cats could hurt him then i'd wait cause a stressed out ig wont be able to bond with you like they need too to become a great pet or maybe look online at petfinder, com for a larger ig whos used to living with cats and could defend himself if needed that might be a better choice for you or wait till the cats live out their lives then get an ig cause igs are complex & alot of work their more a lifestyle then just a pet!
i noticed you say not to use a heat rock. Why is that?I have one for my baby iguana and she likes it.I kinda worry about her because she uses it alot and the temp in her tank is usually between 80 and 90 during the day and 70-80 at night.
yea i used to use them too back in the early 90s but i saw so many pics of igs with real bad burns from them & then i took in a rescue who had 2nd and 3rd degree burns down her tail from a heat rock cause if they malfuction they can overheat & igs cant sense the heat as well from under so they sit there until badly burned so its just not worth the risk cause nothing hurts more then a burn also some igs who dont get enuff water might get impacted drying the food in their gut laying on a heat rock
yea you can use like even a 60 or 75 watt light bulb just for a 2nd basking heat place witout uvb so she can bask with or without uvb when she doesn't need any right then or you can use a halogen flood light either one is just fine for a 2nd basking spot without uvb
its a long story that i posted on here a couple times if you read thru some of the comments from me he had some big problems during his life that cut his life down. Most igs live about 10 to 15 in captivity but they can live to be up to 30 years old, the oldest i ever knew was one at a zoo who was 32 and another who was 29 when they died.
hey i was just wondering i have an iguana named marley(male) and he is just about two and he is a little smaller than godzilla is that not normal or is he just a slow grower
no he should be much bigger, Godzilla was small for his age cause this was taken back around 92 before i could find good care info & he didnt have uvb lights, & was a picky eater & got MBD so you should take yours to a reptile vet for a fecal check for worms then order a megaray uvb light do not use pet store brands they are junk! watch my feeding videos and lighting videos when you order a megaray get some herptivite and nutribac DF too & read more on reptileuv, com and uvgude,uk
then read more at greeniguanasociety, org and print out the list of good foods to use & anapsid, org for general care join advancediguanacare babyiguana & uvb_meter_owners all on yahoo groups they should grow 1 to 1 1/2 feet a year if kept right and theyneed a hidbox to sleep or hide in whenever they want also
lol that like my cat and lizard. i got em both young and there've been best friends since. they spend there days hanging out together and in winter my lizard loves layin on top of the cat for wormth.
:) thats cool yea mine got along good all their lives, Godzilla lived to be 10 and the cat i called her the Tail cause she always ran around with her tail in the air lol she was a stray kitten when she found our door and she lived to be 23
lol really? yea she was a great pet. she found our back door as little more then a kitten and lived to be 23 yo. her and Godzilla always got along fine but when he got big she didnt like him walking on her caue he couldn't pull his claws in like she could but she would still come over and love on him she liked the little spikes on his neck and the big ones on his back
its obvious that you cared for him,you did your very best and it shows, alot of people dont have the information to know how to look after these reptiles and i think its great what your doing and what you've done and you have my respect jimmy!
yea sometimes its hard for me to look at these really old videos cause i can see all i used to do wrong with my first ig but i try to show we all start somewhere and only if people are willing to search and find the info they need will they be able to have a healthy iguana but its allot of work and takes up alot of time everyday to keep them but they are worth it
oh yea i made sure to intruduce them slowly and i had the cat for many years before Godzilla so i knew she wouldn't hurt any animal they were friends for the next 10 years Godzilla lived before he got very sick and i had to put him down and the cat was a stray kitten and she lived to be 23 yo.
its just iguanas do sense the heat from below as well and if the heat rock malfunctions and overheats they will still sit there and get 2nd & 3rd degree burns before they know it & u get a huge vet bill or a dead iguana. they feel the heat better from above so use either a self ballasted megaray uvb light that puts out heat during the day and at night use their heat projector it will let you put the heat right where u want it up to 2feet away and if u or ur ig touches it u wont get burned at all
if u dont want to use the hi tech heat projector then atleast rap the old heatrock in a towel for alittle more protection cause nothing hurts like a burn. check out the heat projector at reptileuv, com
yep i did way back when, this video was shot in 92 and back then most people said to use them but later when i took in one rescued ig that was burned by a heat rock i learned not to use them and to use a basking light or now that i only use megaray uvb lights the SB light puts out heat and its best if the heat comes from above and on a cold night i use megaray heat projectors for each of mine but i'm glad you saw the heat rock and know not to use them too :)
lol yea, some igs like my foster Gizmo are very afraid of cats and or dogs but Godzilla wasn't to worried about her since she never tried to be mean to him but i did take alot of time to let them get used to each other but i knew my cat and she wouldn't hurt anything and they learned it was ok to hang out together but it didn't happen over night but you have to go by the personalites of each animal to know if they will be ok or not, careful dont let ur iguana break his tail hitting the glass
well iguanas don't sense heat as well from under as they do from above and if a heat rock malfuctions and overheats they will sit there till they get 2nd and 3rd degree burns, i had one rescued girl whos tail was burned very badly by a heat rock. They use their 3rd eye to let them know when they have had enuff uvb and basking time cause out in the wild most heat would come from the sun cause they come from the rain forest if they were desert lizards they might be ok with a heatrock
Thank you, yea they have been a throw away pet for 2 decades now, people buy them and think they are easy to care for or they stay small and smoe people think they are stupid reptiles but they are very smart have a long memory and are about the hardest reptile to keep cause they need so much to be healthy and happy. Me and other owners have been learning and trying to help other iguana owners since 1999.
i wanna see that ig snuggle with a cat i mena they would fight to the death....i wanna see animals at peace
