Claudia Jones held 'event's organised by Pearl and Edric Connor. They were showcases, dances and gigs held in various venues and although called 'carnivals' they were not anything to do with the carnival held in Nottinghill. Rhaune Laslett held a large festival for many years and Russell Henderson at one of her street fetes used to walk the community all round the neighbourhood on a 'road march'. None of this had anything to do with Claudia.
that's how educated colonial people from the west indies spoke back in the day. That generation is dying out though, but i do like the hear that type of speech. Africans, Indans and west indians from those days all spoke like that. I think it is hilarious but I am missing it now that they are dying out. I kind of nostalgic
Considering she lived in Trinidad for 8 years, then 30 years in New York, she has a remarkable English accent. A guess could be that to be an expert speaker she needs to be understood and appealing to all. And that she was in Trinidad at a time when it was colonised by Britain. Some of the best spoken English language I have heard is by people from colonised places such as Jamaica and India.
these people were humble and fitted in todays imigrants have no intention of that and thats where its all gone wrong even these old imigrants say that and i know a few
