Dude, there are other ways to do this right? I saw another video on how the person did it on three partitions. They use the ubuntu loader though. Isn't it easier to install vista (windows 7) first before xp because you don't need a partition manager because win7 and vista you can shrink and change the partitions. I dual booted win7 and vista a few times and I installed windows 7 first.
duncan i really need your help ....i originally had xp installed with 2 drives......i installed ubuntu as an app on xp then went ahead and installeds windows 7 rc ......all fine but now i only want xp back..(xp was on drive c with ubuntu app) on drive d is windows and ubuntu ............pls pls help me ...........thanks in advance
I am about to do it with windows 7 , just 2 questions to make sure it will be OK. After I install XP i turn the computer off and put the new windows cd and it will let (ask/ automaticaly /where ) to install it in the new partition right? and the boot manager is something automatic right? I dont have to install it?! Tks great video
One more thing. After Ihave 2 system I can acess the media files and programs from each other??? should i have an extra partition just for media/ programs so that when I get rid of woindows XP when they release windows 7 i will have all ready in another partition then delete XP and windows 7 partitons...would it work? thanks alot
Can i ask a little stupid question? can i Download Windows XP somewere like i did with linux??? and can you change to xp form vista or from xp to vista??? Please Reply
Not to say this video wasn't very informative but I would install ubuntu on a third partition so you have access to all files on your system, just a suggestion if you attempt this. It's just a wall I ran into using wubi.
Thank you for this excellent guide - you have explained the process with great clarity...I now feel confident to install a triple boot on my pc. Great video *****
I tried ubuntu on my vista laptop using the built in wubi, guess what happened when i left my laptop on ubuntu, it went into stand-by, when it came back on, vista and ubuntu were both dead and corrupt, i had to reinstall from scratch and lost a lot of stuff, but luckily i recovered most of my files using recovery software, if you want ubuntu without your pc dying, actualkly make a partition and install it there, installing it into vista is a bad idea because your pc will die!!!!!!!
your a tool all you have to do is install windows xp then ubuntu which will notice that you have another operating system installed then you install vista
So If I wanted to install ubuntu(just that because I already have vista installed), I just need the ISO to install it? How would I take it off? Would it affect my windows Vista computer?(I didn't wipe it. It has all the programs and games etc.)
The problem with installing Ubuntu with Wubi is most of the time upgrades won't work. Also you can edit the grub's menu.lst file to add entries for Windows Vista and Windows XP and make them boot automatically which is something you did not mention. Do keep up the videos I try to watch all of them and I do hope you read these comments.
quik question... i have Vista 32-Bit already install can i just install Ubuntu with Wubi inside Vista and then with the Vista CD shrink the partition and make a new one were i will put XP and then Flag both as Bootable? im kinda n00b with partitions....
Duncan you seemed to do it a hassle way. I formatted my PC. Installed XP in a 30GB partition, then installed Vista in another 30GB partition and installed Ubuntu on the left space.
I just used the partition manager on the boot discs.
whoa did you just update this or somthing, it showed up again on my hoem page, any ways. Nice vids dude your voice is very pleasant and relaxing sounding, like hypnotizing. lol i would never use this, but it solves my technolust
What's a good size hard drive for just the triple boot? Would an external hard drive help/be needed for extra space for other files/new programs that we want to install?
Im not really sure but when you partition it makes it like a second drive so i think when you do this you can just goto My Computer and then goto the second drive like D.
o thanks, i need to know because i am planning to put xp on with my vista to see wich one is better, and see if my programs and files work better on xp than vista.
As far as i know the bootloader is located in the MBR of the disk (not partition) so Linux would overwrite the existing windows bootloader and add the other os into grub. Correct me if im wrong.
I got dual booting, vista and ubuntu ;D
