Of course, new buses and subway cars look fancier, but is appearance important for transport systems? LiAZ 5256 was developed in 1988. It can make 90 km/h. LiAZ 5293 was developed in about 2008. It cannot go faster than 75 km/h. The first one carries 117 passengers, the secon one - only 100. And the same things can be found when compareing any other kinds of rolling stock.
That what I hate about transport in Russia. Any modernisation causes only buying new rolling stock. Or (like RZD now) repainting old one. But rolling stock means nothing, when the condition of tracks is so disgusting, that most streetcar lines have 15 km/h speed limit. By the way, no modern rolling stock made in Russia now is better than one made in the 1980 - 1990 in SU.
how come the old subway lasted for nearly 100 years before refurbishment and the same for the trains things were built to last then the problems they had in the tunnels is not new, there is a video on youtube with the same things from the 1970's. The only problem i've found is the horrible late 1970's early 1980's obsession with brown tiles everywhere makes it all so dark and dingy but as a service never had any problems with it
More big cities in the uk need a small but good subway system and i hope you get the upgrades that you need.If its anything like london its not a place you expect to meet new friends but most of all,all we ask is just get people from a 2 b on time for a decent price????is that really too much to ask??
Bloody awful subway. Always breaking down, Nothing worse when you only want to go from Partick to Govan.

I think the Subway is very dirty & noisy but service is quite good.

I agree! The subways are dull boring and depressing. They need a new look and for the decor to be more inviting!
