If you get all that green paint on the trim you will have trouble getting the white trim paint to cover. That brush he is using is a club, only good for beating someone. This guy is an amateur.
wow a lot of critics on here, some painters use a slight shake technique when cutting-in. He did a good job, however I'm not sure about advocating not to worry about painting over the molding for a pro likely not a big deal, but an amateur may glop on the paint too thick and cause a bumpy uneven finish when painting over the overlapped moldings.
You should have did wood work first and let dry and use blue paint tape and outline your trim. Then do your walls, that teal paint will be hard to hide with your white trim paint and the walls look like crap and your hands shake too bad to be doing it freehanded!
you act as if you are a professional painter. You paint maybe 4 jobs a year. When you cut three things you do wrong. 1. too much paint in cutting can. 2. you are to pinch the brush pushing up this creates flow and moves brush in a line. 3. you want to cut closer to the trim without getting so much paint on the trim. One week with me i could make you a painter.
im a self taught paint/dec and this guy is what we call in uk a cowboy. cudn't draw a straight line using a ruler let alone cut in a wall to ceiling. lmao...awful video and dont watch this for tips unless your decorating a blind persons room.
Dude, this is painful to watch... I just wanna rip that brush out of your hand... what are you thinking about, you are using a oil brush in latex... By the way, it's much easier if you actually touch the ceiling just a little, you'll get a much cleaner line.
Good luck man... I've been a painter for 20 years.

wow lmao everybody is a painter, which is no problem anyone can go to the dollar store and gear up for 20 bucks and say theyre a painter. Sad thing is ive watched almost all painting videos and everyone explains their stupidity, they are trying to teaching something they cant do its very funny, I will be posting some pro videos up after seeing all this this is a joke...
Tip - take a pencil and make a line where the wall meets the ceiling. Just drag the pencil along where they meet. The pencil will create it's own straight line. Then paint to the edge of the line. The pencil line will be perfectly straight and give you a perfect look without having to be so good at creating that perfect line with a brush.
@woodburnrentals actually i was shown something like this when i first started, the painter i worked for told me to run my putty knife in the corner (of the ceiling) to create a ridge, and it left no pencil marks. worked great for me.
@aandjelic No you could not cut in the entire room in the time it took him to do that bit. Your obviously deluded. And the aim of this video was not to do it fast, it was to show how to do it. Why would you want to do it fast in anyway? A good painter take's his time, or if he's running out of time he understands he will have to sacrifice quality for quantity. I suspect if you did the room in 3 min's you would have hits on the ceiling and splash's of paint all over. Very rough painter indeed. :)
always paint vertical trim and windows first, always, and always paint baseboard last, it sounds like this guy has less than a year experience, this is common knowledge and you want to get your roller line to cover your cut line as much as possible and try prepping the walls before you paint

@450hp202turbo true cause you can move material easier on the second coat cut-in when the first is almost up to the edge with the second cut-in edge is so litttle

@basracer yes your right ,,some times you do 1 coat ,,I am doing this racked ceiling 6x6 with exposed beams around 12 6 meters long beams 1 coat of oil on them and.the narrow ceiling panels in 1 coat of flat. i have sanded all the beams as well. .30hours .it has taken to finish ,,,,what would a job like that cost is the USA .i did it for a hourly rate.
@450hp202turbo 1,500- 2,000 just for labor as always depends where your bidding, what class of people that wont pay much and how bad you need to get the job when your first bidding. I see paint contractors who have regular customers and
charge 50-60 for a painter helper that they pay 22 per hour for 35 years bidding and still people dont respect what we really do for them, they see price and how quick your out of their hair, then they still price shop in the future case you get cocky prices
@QsxFuZd except for exterior flat on say stucco for cut in I use straight edge larger
brush to carry more material. For interior sharp line quick work cut in , I always use
an angular brush , its like a knife drawing a perfect line without twisting that broom flat straight edge brush struggling for control of material. So many other reasons for angular brushes , as you cut in better the light smooth brush strokes that diminish better when dry-enamel or flat . Nothing twisted or ropy lines
did this guy smoke a hit of crack before this video..........he sucks and is a lazy slack ass.........dont worry about this or that , you can get that later........fgt
a miss coat would of been a good idea. you could put the paint your using in to a 2 lt kettle for cutting in, easyer to handle! you are ment to feather out the cutting in, so you dont get a block line of paint on finish. use one long stroke not lots of little ones, much neater, try sanding the wall!!! get a better finish! maybe clean your paint bucket, who ever said water paint down lmao get a desent brush if you find it hard to cut in!... have a nice day :D
rubbish, if he was working for me i,d sack him, his cutting in is terrible, never use paint from the tin, you will pick up crap from the walls and skirting and transfer it back to the tin, dont smash the paint all over the skirting as you will have to undercoat the tops twice to block out the dark colour, this guy is no pro.
im a professional painter, been around it my whole life......he said his brush was 2.5in but its actually a 3..shows how much he really knows. I hate that this guy has put himself out there for the world to see. He has some experience but just not qualified to teach. We paint ultra custom homes 500k - 1 mil and up. I would hate for him to be embarrassed on one of our jobs by saying I'm on expert village teaching folks how to paint. Look.. if you're going to be on here PLEASE be an actual expert.
THIS GUY IS A JOKE .ALWAYS PAINT DOORS ,JAMS ,AND WINDOWS BEFORE YOUR FINAL WALL COAT .ITS EASIER TO CUT THE WALL TO THE TRIM THAN THE TRIM TO THE WALL ,AND LASTLY DRAW YOUR BASEBOARD LINE . ABC PAINT
dilute your cut in material to help it flow while making a straight line, angle your angular brush like holding a pencil drawing into the ceiling edge working towards the white ceiling watching the color flow towards the white not diving in to the edge first. Since 2 coats are used with such a color change get in close on the first cut in
fill in the better line to the ceiling later with less material to make a straight line easier I have 40 years holding a brush, a straight line isnt easy
@basracer what to you mean since two coats is used with such a colour ? 2 coats should be applied no matter what colour. the colour he is using may even need 3 coats depend on how much ceiling paint the top edge of wall has on it
@450hp202turbo depending on the job and what the customer is paying for, sometimes a repaint is one coat flat , Right ? But technique , brush bristle nylon material and paint viscosity will aid in a one coat coverage over a hard to hide base color or cutting in straight lines easily with enough speed to make you money over the amateur.
@basracer i agree with you on dilute with a few drops of water on the first coat makes its flow and easy to get a straight line , dont need much just a few drops in the pot to get it to flow ,

JESUS CHRIST MAN!!!!! why are all expertvillage videos so amature like ?? I'm 22 years old and i've been working as a painter for more then 5 years....i'm telling you this dude has no idea how to do a profesinal job...i cut better with my right hand and my eyes closed...and i'm a leftie btw...
im a painter and his cutting in isnt that great, i mean its alright if your looking at it from a little bit away but if your close up its a little wavy, also the colour he is putting on, painting it on the trim isnt a good idea because i would think he is gonna paint the trim white and white wont cover that in 1 coat, although this is america and im in the u.k so they may have a tougher thiker gloss
BAD job! Did not stir the paint. Did not cut a clean line that met the ceiling. And the rough wall texture. Ugh! Should have prepped (sanded) the wall before starting to paint.
You gotta be joking ,your cut in does not even reach the cieling your afraid of hitting it.heres a tip ,score it with a putty knife and paint right to the corner,no disrespect but your a false profit painter ,dont preach what you cant even practice ,it looks like you painted it with your D--K. all my best to you and your buisness
I been painting only 5 years and i cut in better than that, that ceiling cut in was all over the shop. The second wall wasn't much better should have filled and sanded down first, looked like he hadnt prepared that wall at all.
I saw alot wrong in this video. First off his cut line was very wavy and not straight at all. He did say that he was going to cut twice and that if he didnt get it the first time he would get it the second. Next, the second wall he got to look terrible. If you are a real painter then grab your putty knife and run it over those huge bumps. His only excuse for that wall looking that way is if they are going to put a mirror or something up over it.
and finally you want to paint the woodwork in that semi gloss first. Paint the base and bring the trim paint up about a 1/4 inch onto the wall. When the base board paint is CURED, run blue tape over it. "Drybrush" cut the bottom line against that tape. If you do paint the wall first, you can paint a LITTLE against the woodwork like he is doing BUT you want to make sure that you leave NO drips or brush marks when you do.
the plastering is rubbish, how can u put a paint on a wall that wasn`t prepared properly, u should use sand paper first to make it good, then drink vodka to stop ur hands shakin`, u got a good Purdy brush but u don`t know how to use it, if u trying to give instructions, make sure u doing it good ...
that was terrible, why are u showing people how to paint when i cant even do it your self, when doing your line to the celling looked like u where having a heart attack painting the celling and everywhere but the damn line.
Blue tape is a waste of money after 22 painting proffesionally i have only used blue tape on newly painted laquer trim and baseboard. thats what it truly was intended for becuase of its low tack adhesive. the white tape can stay on up to three days with no problem and has a higher tack adhesive. it also costs half the price becuase the demand is much lower. i will be posting vids in the near future to help people out the right way.
@BLUEtrafficLIGHT now you show your intelligence. that "your baby can talk" program worked incredible tell your mama thank you for helping you learn to speak like a CRACK HEAD.!!!!!! FAGNUT! Whatever language that is your speaking retard! lmao anyhing else you say falls on def ears. you even deleted your last comment. What a loser, did you delete your account too?
@kevskeone would you clean or change shirts evrytime u get a drop of paint on your clothes, you can't avoide paint if your a painter, its like playing rugby and saying i won't get dirty.
he is a real painter as he says first coat cutting in dont have to be perfect just straighten it up on second coat.
and hes not slow cutting in id like to see you cut in faster with turquoise and hes showing the viewers anyway so he has to go slow he aint on a price @kill4joke.
Sorry but i'm a painter and that line you've cut is horrible. I don't mean to be negative, but that was terrible. Keep practicing then put a new vid on.
yeah the trim will take 3 coat to get rid off the blue... youdo all your white in the first time and you cut your wall and trim perfectly on the first coat and the 2nd you can go quicker and stop your color just a bit from your white...but that is just my way...
Heeeyyy!!!! you forgot to SAND the walls, dude!

BAD job! Did not stir the paint. Did not cut a clean line that met the ceiling. And the rough wall texture. Ugh! Should have prepped (sanded) the wall before starting to paint.
ruthelator 1 year ago 2
You gotta be joking ,your cut in does not even reach the cieling your afraid of hitting it.heres a tip ,score it with a putty knife and paint right to the corner,no disrespect but your a false profit painter ,dont preach what you cant even practice ,it looks like you painted it with your D--K. all my best to you and your buisness

I been painting only 5 years and i cut in better than that, that ceiling cut in was all over the shop. The second wall wasn't much better should have filled and sanded down first, looked like he hadnt prepared that wall at all.

never ever do this.
motogrrrl216 1 year ago
I saw alot wrong in this video. First off his cut line was very wavy and not straight at all. He did say that he was going to cut twice and that if he didnt get it the first time he would get it the second. Next, the second wall he got to look terrible. If you are a real painter then grab your putty knife and run it over those huge bumps. His only excuse for that wall looking that way is if they are going to put a mirror or something up over it.
boi181818 1 year ago
and finally you want to paint the woodwork in that semi gloss first.

Whew doggy.

Is this New Orleans quick fix project? I didn't get the "don't worry" parts in this vid, besides the trim.
I guess he's a nice person overall, with a full bucket of self esteem.
Cheers.

the plastering is rubbish, how can u put a paint on a wall that wasn`t prepared properly, u should use sand paper first to make it good, then drink vodka to stop ur hands shakin`, u got a good Purdy brush but u don`t know how to use it, if u trying to give instructions, make sure u doing it good ...
santi600 1 year ago
that was terrible, why are u showing people how to paint when i cant even do it your self, when doing your line to the celling looked like u where having a heart attack painting the celling and everywhere but the damn line.

Your lines were a bit iffy. Also the plastering was rubbish. Try using easyfil.

@ gaming tard..you will find it extremely easier n less sloppy by using a five gallon bucket and a "grid".much easier to move from place to place.

couz650 1 year ago
yeah the trim will take 3 coat to get rid off the blue... youdo all your white in the first time and you cut your wall and trim perfectly on the first coat and the 2nd you can go quicker and stop your color just a bit from your white...but that is just my way...
couz650 1 year ago
That was well bad line. Not sharp at all. I wouldnt get paid for that! "Expertvillage" my ass!
szpyca 1 year ago
I would suggest painting your trim first. its just always easier to cut the wall to the the finished trim rather than trim to wall.
