African American/black people, I would rather watch you people in the independent film with your creativity and talent shine up. Remember how Menace, Friday, Juice, Boyz, and Justice came out! THAT SHIT WAS THE BOMB AND REAL DEAL!
Anthony is correct. We are lazy and a bit foolish. Why should whites (gentile and jew) be responsible for telling stories about american black folks? If you think about it historically, whites did not like us. That hasn't changed much. But like the late Dr Wilson said we must change the way we think and perceive OURSELVES. Hoping others will do what we must do ourselves keeps us in a child-like state. We gotta grow up ya'll.
I like his smart approach to many things, but I just hate the forced racism in everything I see today.
Racism is discrimination. Discrimination is pointing out the differences and using it either in favor or against the subject.
Why do people always have to point out the differences? Can't we just be people?
It's the people who can't see past the differences, who are offended by racist jokes. I laugh at racist jokes because I don't take racial differences seriously.
Has Anthony Mackie opted to write a screenplay? Has he decided to direct a film? If not, I think it would be advantageous of him to do so and be instrumental in the industry.
Anthony Mackie was dropping some knowledge on this interview - however, there's a component, in my view, that we MUST have to go along with this to make it happen - a PRO-BLACK mindstate. If we don't, and continue to expect a racist-ass industry, whose first and perpetually existing images of us are rooted in minstrelsy, then we are a LOST cause. To HELL with the Oscars. Now, the flip side is this - there are plenty of us making movies OUTSIDE of hollyWOULDN'T. Again, the onus is on US.
Why would you say the word Black is limited and then continue to us it through out the entire interview. Black Pride is what is needed here and in the film industry
@kingnoble99 I noticed that as well. The only thing I can figure out is, his use of the term "black" is used to describe limited dramatic expressions of blackness in movies and TV. I wish he would explain himself better. Perhaps if the video were longer...
