I guess I should have posted the lyrics before : here they are in both Irish and English. Emma Kate's "Gaeilge" is from Connaught although she is Scottish born
Why did they put it in a language no one understands? I have no idea what she's saying so it becomes kind of meaningless really. I know more about "God Save the Queen" than "Aran na Bhfian". :(
No, it's Italian. Her fathers family were Italian with an Irish mother but she has lived here forever!- also went to an all Irish secondary school where every subject was through Irish a great grá for the gaeilge !!!
It is unlike the American Nation Anthem, where only a trained singer who can reach high notes with a strong voice.... it is a song that anyone can sing.
It sounds a lot better than to hear it in english not that I understand gaelic but it is afterall a beautiful lanuage compared to english and other germanic languages!
Fantastic, It was good to hear this asit should be sung. (Other than in English) I have only heard this sung in Spanish coutesy of a lass I used to work with in Edinburgh, who was taught it by her Spanish Grandmother.
