The okko diablo - I love the fact that this is like another channel on your amp. It is an authentic tone selection. My question is can it achieve the dumble sound that the zendrive overdrive can. I am trying to decide between the two. If it can I am buying this pedal asap!! It is everything I would ever want in one easy to use pedal, but no dumble no dice.
hey greg, how different is the tone from this les paul to other vintage les paul's of yours??? is it really pure different?? or the legacy remains on les paul (non chambared)
@joe6strings I'm not Greg but I'd like to answer that comment, just incase Greg doesn't have the time. :-)
The 2005 Standard was not chambered yet; it had the 9-hole weight relief Gibson introduced in 1983, and that does not affect the sound. Post-2007 Standards (and Studios) are chambered, and they sound more like an ES-335.
Vintage reissues from Gibson Custom have alnico II Burstbucker 1 & 2 pickups though while Gibson USA models have the wax-potted alnico V Burstbucker Pros.
@joe6strings Hmm, not quite. Gibson started using heavier tonewoods in the 1970s, and a lot of people were complaining about the weight. That's why they introduced the weight relief. So a weight-relieved Les Paul is more or less the same weight as a historic, non-weight-relieved one. Gibson Custom uses the lighter (and more expensive) mahogany, but still they apply weight relief - 17 holes instead of 9 - to some models, like the non-historic LP Custom, LP Axcess.and Peter Frampton model.
@zotos777 No, the '68 Reissue Les Paul Custom is not weight-relieved. It's a historic collection reissue, and as such it is made with historically correct appointments. ;-)
On the other hand, the non-historic Les Paul Custom is weight-relieved, with the 9-hole weight-relief on pre-2003 models (which were made by Gibson USA) and 17-hole weight-relief on the post-2003 models (made by Gibson custom shop). The custom shop model is of course also made of the very light mahogany.
@joe6strings Yes, the Les Pauls manufactured between ~1974 and ~1983 are the heaviest of all, because this was before Gibson started applying weight relief, but after they had already started using the heavier mahogany.
@GregsGuitars Oook nice, where do you sell ? I live in Paris and i'm looking for an ES-339 or 335 (but there is so many models it's too hard to choose)
@trifire02 The backing tracks are collected from the web during a long time. Sorry I don't know anymore from wich site this came from. When I find a nice track I'll store it on my computer and don't make a list with wich track came from wich site... Too many tracks (I would not even find this one on my computer, I just click them random when I record) too many sites. Seach for "Blues backing tracks" or "jam tracks" and you will find a lot
Very very nice playing. Lots of feeling and technique. But, how a bout some without the overdrive pedal....lets hear what you really sound like clean.
@clondan1 the pickups in he traditional are just as good, 57 classics are one of gibson's most preferred pickups. Its just not as hot as the burstbuckers.
2005 was a great year for les paul standards. They were according to Gibsons own statements (advertise) then made to plans of the customshop. Actually I think they were similar to early historics... especially the premium plus series, which Gibson terminated were marvellous...My tip is a 2005 Gibson premium plus (AAA -top). Great value!
Two questions. 1) Is the seymour duncan jb model stand for Jeff Beck Model? 2) Would it be better to leave the Gibson neck p'up in or put in a jazz model or something?
Hello, I was looking for that kind of music what you play :) fantastic feeling and blues licks, could you be so nice and give a link to yours backingtracks ? thank you!
I really need to ask you this because you are a pro guitar player and collector.
I´ve noticed that there are many 2005 gibson les paul standards around here and I´ve heard that these are the " better " les pauls out there. I´ve heard that the best is the 1958,59 and 60 models ofcourse and then the 1991 model. Do you think that the 2005 belong to the better les pauls ?
chambered means that there are "chambers" on the guitar's wood during the manufacturing process so it wont be so heavy. They just poke a few large holes on the mahogany. The maple cap is unchanged... i think
no the chambered are large masive hollow chambers, not small drill holes like they use to do. ive seen an x-ray of a chambered LP and it is ridiculous how much wood they take out
I honestly wouldn't consider what there producing today (besides what in the Custom Shop) Les Pauls. There going way to far with the chambering, even going as far as to raise the prices over the full bodied LP's of 07' and before. It's redicules.
only the non custom shop ones after 07 have the swiss cheese or chambering. I believe the les paul 'customs' do too, but not the VOS reissues of the 50's customs like the 1957 triple humbucker. Your safe on the vos models pretty much
Thanks for the info, but it is ashame that you would have to pay 2 to 3 times more for a non weight relieved Les Paul. In theory, a non weight relieved Les Paul should cost less to make, as there is less processing to perform to make the chambering or swiss cheese holes for weight relief.
a theory i've heard about swiss cheese and chambering: when les pauls are weight relieved gibson can use heavier mahogany wich is less expensive. so that could be a reason for doing it
That sounds logical, but if Gibson really want to keep production cost down, they can use the cheaper heavy mahogany and not routing out chambers or drilling out relieve holes for the Les Paul Standards. Now by doing both, they save money on the heavier mahogany and save time and money in the process of weight relieving in the production line.
Oh man....what a nice way to start a Saturday morning. Beautiful sound. Gorgeous note selection and touch. I'm gonna listen to it again and pass this vid along to friends. Great stuff...thanks! //pete

A standard is not the same as the new traditional. The tradationals have a lot of the wood removed internally to reduce the weight.
