  • This is when Rock-n-Roll was

  • Jesse Belvin belongs in that list of those who died too young.

  • Little Willie John,Jackie Wilson,Hank Ballard, the Falcons,Noland Strong and others black artists of the 50s are from Detroit Michigan thats how Motown artists like Stevie,Smokey,Marvin,Diana,Martha,Four Tops,Temptations and others admire them.but Willie John,James Brown,Hank Ballard,Billy Ward & the Dominoes,Otis Williams & the Charms were from King records.but sadly Willie John died and Frankie Lymon died to too young in 1968 along with other black artists who died young too.

  • End all the speculation . . .

Read the LWJ biography out this month (JUNE) on Titan Books! For more info go the Face Book page, Fever: Little Willie John's Fast Life and Mysterious Death or check the Titan Books web site or Amazon on-line! :)

  • Gifted singer......

  • you are right...the state of washington was the state of the prison where he died...my info was wrong on that note

  • One word..."CLASSIC"

  • James Brown used to be Little Willie John's opening act back in the late 50's. this man had to be good to follow James Brown because not to many artists could follow James Brown's stage show

  • @GarwinEugeneW Thanks for reminding me! I totally forgot about this song! Great find.

    Joe

  • sam cooke was chasing a hooker who had robbed him. the motel manager shot him. little willie john was another story. if he never did anything but write and record fever, he would still be legendary cool. too much substance abuse.

what is cool about this song is it was written by joe seneca, who played in crossroads, and played a non singing reverend in heat of the night and a non singing doctor in the verdict. fortunately he lived longer than the two more famous singers.

  • un fortunately its true..the crimes of willie john he started drinking hard and fucking up bad while riding his fame back then ..he died a virtual nobody in a newyork state prison...

  • @decepticonjuju Correction: black men.

  • @decepticonjuju

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about or you've been repeating something that someone else said. LWJ died in Washington State about as far away as you can be from NY State. For who really want to know what happened to Little Willie John . . . check out the biography of his life. Amazon.com will have the book on June 21, 2011

  • @decepticonjuju

  • sitting in the 'Malt shop" listening over and over....the greatest years....Excellent version!!!!

  • Wish there was some video footage out there of Little Willie John performing.

  • One of the most beautiful songs of this or any era. Willie was truly a song stylist.

  • willie died too young....in prision in washington state

  • @arizonaghost1

Yes, he was convicted of manslaughter and died in prison at the age of 30. Sam Cooke was 33 when he got shot to death by some woman in a hotel. Moral of story: drugs, booze and cheating can get you killed.

  • @dyad2r1 That ain't the way I heerd it. The way I heerd it, the manager of the motel shot Sam as he chased a woman, whom he was tryin to rape. I love both these siners, however, Sam and Willie, their sinin.

  • @howtoplanaparty actually like patersondave44 said the prostitute robbed him and took most of his clothes. I remember reading that Little Willie John's sister said Willie had a bad temper and that Sam was one of the only people who could calm him down.

  • @dyad2r1 Why was he convicted of man's laughter? Laughter isn't illegal.

  • @howtoplanaparty zing! great comment!

  • One of the most underated R&B Vocalist of his era.

  • Vintage track. Fist heard it on vynil in the eighies. Change my life really. I wanted to look like Lloydd Price them days!!!!

  • Nice!

  • This is my Favorite version, Thank you!
