Sim city 4 introduces micromanagment of budget where you can tweak the budget of individual buildings.Tweak the Expendures of your town civic buildings low enough where the srvices are not sacrificed.Build in small increments.Keep it LOW DENSITY untill you get the hang of it and keep your devolopments within the radius of your Fire,police,schools etc.Create your central nucleus with these civic buildings in a downtown fashion and build zones around them.

@Dj7baylum doing that is fine and easy, but making the city look realistic at the same time is quite challenging. so i build regions where i actually play, and regions where i actually design a realistic layout of a city, and then they're the regions where i try to accomplish both.

build slowly, lower funds to the point which they are necessary like from schoold, police etc.. usually they fund alot more in the beginning then actually necessary, and build slow like i said don't go over building your whole map at once.. make some zones, then wait till you have more income then expanses then build some more

Well they are two different games in my opinon, if you want the challenge of building a city from the ground up with finiaial and civil matters then simcity 4 is the way to go. If you want a game in which city progress is made or influenced by different cultures then city life is the way. Personally I like sim city 4 better. I have Sim city societies, city life and simicity 4. Not very happy with Sim City societies as it is way to much like city life. Though the graphics are better.

I love SC4, but when it comes to build tall buildings. I fail. Why don't I get such buildings. I built lots oh hospitals, firestations and lots of deluxe police stations. And my monthy income is higher than the expences. I allso saw that the land value is allso good, very good. Population of 240.000 and not a single building with over 70 floors.

becuase you need neighboring cities it races the land value alot and make sure you have alot of trsffic for the commercial offices.

You need mass transit for one thing, but sometimes you just gotta wait, leave your compy on for like a while and check once in a while and close the advisor windows and you should start to see some developement, Also for commercial make sure theres alot of customers for residential make sure the commute time isnt to long. If you have extra cash, land markks and sports areans and ect. can definitly help sometimes,. hope this helps. P.S. Check out my city.

i got cities with the tallest buildings in this game in about two weeks, took me a while to learn how to build right though. If you want skyscraper, focus on safety, education, healthcare, and transit, don't go for the dsirty industry, go for the high -tech and you get the really tall and nice buildings.

the problem with high tech industry is that unlike you can't build up(like skyscrapers and such) and you can only spread out, which makes he commute time farther. Industry in general is only good for your city in the early stages, I think.

around this city, in the other cities, build farms (as much as posible) and poor industries (rise the taxes for high tech industries)

then in your residencia city build industries of high tech and comercial areas

u must have a big city destianted only for houses:

uve got to build a poor and a rich area.. in the poor one just give them police, firemen and water... remenmber not to build industries

in the rich one everything u can afford

Well if you a "green" person, the dirty industrial is the heart of the taxes.Also no industries no shops, less people.Also at the begging try to pick a suitable map for instance some on New York are split into 2 by a river on sides big and the others small, make a bridge and put all the polluting stuff on the small side and houses and shops on the big one makes transit between the two sides and your ready to roll, heck doing that now i got only hi-tech industrial and a hydro power plant

God this game is oooooooooooooo hard if anyone could help me at all would be much appreciated. i have had it for 2 years build numerous cities and never really had a great one you know? the city goes fine until for some reason all industry goes black therefore i lower its taxes try to get more ppl in and then i cant afford to run schools and hospitals etc, and i dont really know what % i just have my taxes at in the begining? any help? cheers

i realy have some great city's and never had problems wit taxes. maybe cause i never change them? i allways keep them like this: all residential 8,9% ,industrial 9,9& and commercial 8,5% from begining to the "end".

I have the game, all u have to do is build a city but dont put any police stations at all. And after the city develops to a population of at least 1000 and people notice there r no police theyll start fires tip cars over and start riots!!! That happened to me once and I eas pissed of because it wouldnt stop even if u built police station it would still keep on going 4 a while!
