Ok i had a 1049 Ford a couple years back and restored it my self and had the original Flathead motor v8. I changed everything to 12v except for the Starter. I owned the car 5 yrs and drove it for for 4 of those years and never had a problem with the starter.
if you haven't started it yet when you do slowly poor some atf down the carb it will free up sticky rings if you dont your running the risk of fuel getting into your block and cleaning bearing of oil thats how i scattered my 454
i worked at a tire shop lady came in with a flat tire i saw the hole it was faily small i was going to plug it and put it back on the car but i could hear something in it when i broke it off the rim i found a dinner fork
You inspire me. I build these things all the time, there are so many tricks and ways to do things, getting bolts out, making tools... I am going to try to include the Zen of Rat building as I see it. :) Started the philosophy when I cut the doors apart and found a chicken bone in it. :)
Chicken bone eh? That's a good one. Reminds me of the old joke they used to tell when I worked at GM. Guy had a rattle the front of his car, and couldn't for the life of him figure out what it was.. Finally decided it was in the fender. Cut the fender open and found a coke bottle inside with a note in it.. Said: "Now that you've found the rattle, how you going to fix the hole in the fender...."
331 Caddy. Well, we will parrallel this with my Tbucket build of the 331 Chrysler poly. Proably a lot of the vids will be similiar, eg the cam gear vid you posted. next week when I get home, I will have all the stuff for the blower. Not as cool as your teakettle though......
Yea, in the old days there was this "Rat Fink" character that showed up in a lot of hot rod mags.. Don't know if that's where the rat part came from, but do think that making a car that almost anyone can build, that isn't judged by how much chrome or metal flake paint is on it, but by a different metric, home made.. , that makes it accessble to everyone, I think that's what it's all about now, and that's cool...
I spent most of my life dreaming about getting to do what I'm doing now. Lots of starts that never got finished because I didn't have a place to work, or the tools, or the money. I'm grateful that it finally came to this..
Well thats just A nice hat u got there.

Me to the older the parts the better and there all made of steel or tin and not plastics.
Pull the heads and the sump off to check out the internals before damaging anything.
