The irony of marijuana prohibition is the conservatives' reluctance to join the effort. Isn't the GOP supposed to have Libertarian leanings? It seems blatantly hypocritical for republicans to claim to advocate for individual liberties while continuing to support prohibition. It's maddening. And what about fiscal responsibility? It's hugely expensive and wasteful to criminalize marijuana. It's bad business!! The GOP could get the young vote, the lack of which cost them greatly in 2008.

For my debate class, I've been assigned to argue that marijuana should continue to be illegal. It is the hardest assignment I've ever been given. Why? I've gotten 32 different sources, and I still have no non-tenuous arguement for keeping weed illegal. Every argument I've heard on why it's bad and deserves to be illegal is terrible, and supported only by opinion based in lies or misquoting. I've never smoked, nor will I ever, yet pot should absolutely be legal.
