Here is a typical politician floundering along, with people catching up to his game. He doesn't speak from the heart. He is just saying what people want to hear from him.
Contrast with Ron Paul, who has been saying the same thing for three decades, while being ridiculed the whole time until recently.
Ron Paul is the only hope for America. If you don't see that, read his book "Revolution". It will wake you up.
"We are a nation under God, and in God we do trust." -Mitt Romney-
Then by the same logic, we are "one straight nation"; we are "one caucasion nation". I don't think Mitt Romney understands the protest.
The motto is exclusive of nonbelievers, just as "one straight nation" would be exclusive of gays and "one caucasion nation would be exclusive of blacks, hispanics, etc. If "In God we trust", then how come nonbelievers make up one of America's largest minorities?
"Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom."
What an absurd assertion. If freedom requires religion, then why did the Mormon Church tell its members to support proposition 8? Why do we have Islamic states operating under Sharia Law? Why is the Vatican legal system rooted in canon law? Why can't you be an open business on sundays without consequence in Israel, as I've recently heard? Freedom is what we get when we listen to reason, irrespective of religion.
Governor Mitt Romney is a RINO. He supports stringent gun laws. His Health care overhaul pales in comparison to the atrocity of Obamacare, but it was similar. He has never expressed public regret for this. He told Michigan residents at an event there that the financial services bailout was absolutely necessary. He stated you said that the Republican Party needs to pass "immigration reform" (amnesty) in order to attract new voters. He’d vote for Obama! watch?v=jPGnJmbDq08
This speech became a classic before five minutes were up, and public speaking classes will probably replay this for decades. Romney was too good for 2008 America, but I've got 25 bucks with his name on them if he runs again.
Who runs Mitt? -- same bunch of crooks who bought and paid for McCain and Obama! Goldman Sachs $234,275 Citigroup Inc $178,200 Merrill Lynch $173,025 Morgan Stanley $170,350 Lehman Brothers $152,000 UBS AG $123,350 Bain Capital $123,150 JPMorgan Chase & Co $79,700 See it for yourself at opensecrets -Link ---> tinyurl(dot)com/cqrzoj If you still love our country then you know it's RON PAUL 2012
It's fascinating to look back at this speech and what has happened since. Our liberal media helped the extreme left to keep America from finding out who Mitt Romney is.
America would be a much better place if Mitt Romney was our President, besides the reality that his financial knowledge and expertise are much needed right now.
Part of the reason that America turned it's back on him was because of religious bigotry. Mitt tried to lead U.S. forward. It's too bad we didn't follow.
@ChristianVoter -- As late as 2005 & 2006, Romney made jokes like this? "I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman … and a woman … and a woman," Romney quipped at the 2005 St. Patrick's Day breakfast in Boston. He made the same joke on Don Imus' 2006 St. Patrick's Day show. Romney's family tree has lots of polygamy. and his father was born in Mexico. He's currently trying to convince the Tea Party he's a good Christian who will reduce the debt.
@ChristianVoter -- ROMNEY'S 2012 PLAN CUTS MEDICARE--Ron Paul’s plan cuts $1 trillion the first year & balances the budget in 3 years. The plan cuts spending by ending the costly foreign wars, and cuts foreign welfare, corporate welfare, and overgrown federal bureaucracy. These cuts are made so that those who are dependent on domestic spending programs such as Medicare aren’t endangered through a sudden change in benefits. Romney’s plan cuts Medicare, on which many elderly Americans rely.
There's an identity thief here on Youtube. His primary pseudonym is ROPdude but he also uses tomoleary1. He is also going around as "micahler1" and "micahIer
I am also a huge gay fag and am confusing everyone
Hey Mitt, Your quite an intelligent guy but stop deluding yourself, joseph smith was a con man. Good things may come out of your religion but that doesn't change the fact that the whole thing is based on a fraud, and If your gullible enough to buy into that fraud then your judgment is questionable and I'm sorry to say, you have no place in the White House.
*Ron Paul* has been elected to 10, 2 year terms in the House of Representative, also known as the "house of the people" a.k.a. CONGRESS. He is a Doctor and an Economist. He never flips flops and backs up everything he says with facts or he doesnt say it at all.
Mitt Romney has no morals. How can we trust such a man.
notice this video has only 50,000 views. If you want to see a video about faith, please search "Mike Huckabee responds to evolution question" which has 2,271,982 views! Wow! Over 2 and a half million views! Why?
Just watch it, he is a man of God and a leader. He has the most experience running a Government. Over 13 years as Governor of Arkansas as a matter of fact. Time magazine even named him as one of the top 5 best Governors of America!
He's also a loser. The days when you could become elected by being a "man of God" went out with the Bush era, and they're never coming back. Evangelicals no longer wield influence over our national politics. You guys are just going to have to sit on the sidelines this year while the grownups talk.
It is stupid to debate whether or not Mormons are Christians. All Christians know that they are not. The fact is that Mormons are very smart, moraled and hard working people. Romney is so far and away the best choice for president that it is not even debatable. The democrats are scared shitless to run against him!!!!
@powell2123 Really? Can he export more crisis and wars to China? The top 1% in China can get more cashes faster using our crisis driven cash capture tactics real easy. I believe the Mormon holy books are better evolved languages created fables. They deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping their mouths shut while witnessing unmanned drone bombers took down innocent civilian homes and villages aboard overseas based on information and orders from those war game enthusiastic behind Pentagon.
hey gooberdude90... is the bad hair is supposed to be funny.. lighten up.... he does have bad hair and no where am i saying anything about not voting for him!!!!!!!!!
Dude, seriously? I mean... SERIOUSLY? No? Okay... whew! For a second, my faith in mankind was shook that anyone could be so stupid! That's a good joke you've got going there, you're a funny man, Tommyboy!
i thought it was funny that he mentioned john adams
"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?"
John Adams letter to F.A. Van der Kamp, Dec. 27, 1816
His former law partner, William Herndon, said of him after his assassination: "[Mr. Lincoln] never mentioned the name of Jesus, except to scorn and detest the idea of a miraculous conception. He did write a little work on infidelity in 1835-6, and never recanted. He was an out-and-out infidel, and about that there is no mistake." He also said that Lincoln "assimilated into his own being" the heretical book Age of Reason by Thomas Paine.
It is a crying shame that an American citizen, running for public office because he wants to serve his country, is given the third degree because of his religious convictions. Are we forgetting the main reason the Pilgrims came to these shores? Last time I checked the Bill of Rights, freedom of religion was still part of U.S. Constitution. Mr. Romney, you are a true gentlemen and a class act.
Yes, it is a shame that even Mike Huckabee has been criticized for answering questions on faith. In fact, I've heard narrow minded, intolerant people say, "I am voting for a president, not a minister".
My question is why is it acceptable for Mr. Romney to defend his faith & different faiths & yet Mr. Huckabee is accused of being a Bible thumper?
Let us look forward to the time when we can take the flag of our country and nail it below the Cross, and there let it wave as it waved in the olden times, and let us gather around it and inscribed for our motto: 'Liberty and Union, one and inseparable, now and forever,' and exclaim, 'Christ first, our country next!' "
Thank you for your mature respond to my commentary. See? Adults can indeed carry on an intellingent exchange of words! The founding fathers of this great country of ours were of strong religious convictions. In reference to Andrew Johnson's quote, may I refer William J. Federer's book ...AMERICA'S God and Country, Encyclopedia of Quotations. God bless America.
I will certainly look forward to reading it I love American history Newt Gingrich is a historian-- who I consider quite fascinating to listen to him speak [there's good NG Youtube videos]
I just Bought the book 'Winning The Future' by NG at the dollar store LOL
Objectively, Gov. Mitt Romney is one of the most qualified individuals to ever run for the Presidency. He is not a career politician, a Washington-beltway elitist. . He's already been thoroughly vetted in liberal Massachusetts and won the Governorship against formidable Dem opposition. Mitt has the gravitas, ethics, experience, leadership, family values, charisma, credentials and energy required to win the 2008 Presidential Election . . . and, most importantly, to govern successfully.
Why isn't the media as dogged about hounding Billary about her "marriage" and past scandals? They had more scandal attached to their administration, and personal life, then the Kennedy's, and this is off-limits by the media?!! She gets kid-glove treatment, while all Republicans are anything-goes. Why isn't the public screaming about this crap? The Clinton's proved they are dangerous people, and a threat to this nation, but the media gives them a pass. Disgusting.
thank you... The fact that this guy is getting all these left wing communist pigs all stirred up gives me great hope. President Romney will be our next best after Reagan
I too am bothered by the appearance of some politics of convenience in his record. However, judging by the text of his speech I have to say that there is a degree of inspiration in the principles he has put forward. I am glad to see someone (anyone) speaking clearly of the principles upon which America was clearly founded.
Since when did a christian come to your door and drag you into his cellar with rats and skeletons and chain you to the wall until you sincerely admitted jesus christ is your savior? dude us christians are being abolished from the USA. besides how do you keep god out of politics when god IS politics? Keeping politics away from god seems to make more sense. let bibles be in schools. why not? if you do not believe in god, then it shouldn't be a big deal if someone else does. let us be!
Damn straight. Silly christians can believe in their silly little myths about reality but i live in the 21st century so god must stay out of politics.
You represent no one in this country, you are are filled with hate because you have no core. You clearly have no idea about the faith of our founding fathers.
Can you say"President Mitt Romney?" Start practicing angry man!!!
Man, those "racist mormons" are currently sending aid to 163 countries and made cash and material donations of over 900 million dollars since 1985. Those jerks!
Rather than arguing about things we don't really know the facts about, why don't we do a little research to see what they are really about? They are doing good in the world, whether we agree with their doctrine or not.
the reason, that african americans didn't have the preisthood, or membership is because they weren't ready yet...We are not Racist!
Honestly, what is it with people and the mormon faith...people think we have horns? Before you make any accusations about Mormons, get your facts straight. and Honestly, why can't you just respect that we Mormons beleive in what we beleive! Because we respect you. so stop making this Such a big issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Logic would tell me the whites were not ready yet. I could imagine their insecurity of the public backlash they would recieve is what kept so many churches and companies from accepting anybody other than the white man. people are afraid of what they aren't used to.... more so than not.
because they wouldn't of had the faith until they knew that they wouldn't have to be slaves...Now every Black member the age of 12+ now have the preisthood.
Your comment makes no sense. Ever heard of Negro spirituals? It was the Bible and faith in Christ their savior that helped them to survive slavery the best they could.
Mormonism is an American religion. Its biases and racist and ethnocentric ideas should be viewed from a historical context. The religion was founded in the 1840s and reflective of a white Protestant viewpoint. Hence its biases against blacks, women and Catholics. Blacks would not be priests (Mormon sense of the word), nor women freed from polygamy had Congress not regulated Mormon doctrine. This "church" has been regulated by Congress.
Why would blacks want to be Mormons? It isn't a theologically Christian faith. Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist and Catholic Churches will not recognize Mormon baptism, as Mormonism is not true to Christian theology.
These days many methodists, presbyterian and many Baptists stopped baptizing in the name of the Father and Son and Holy spirit and their baptism is not accepted by Orthodox Church or Catholic Church. That being said, does that mean that a presbyterian should be excluded from politics because of his faith?
"The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints" so how can you say we aren't of Christian faith when we have "Jesus Christ" in our Religions name. Also every black member 12+ has the Priesthood.
hence we arent racist as having the preisthood is an honor to have.
You may have Jesus Christ in your name, but Mormons only believe in Jesus as a person who walked the earth. The basis of the Mormon relgion is not based on Christ.Your religion does not believe he died on the Cross so mankind would have eternal life in Heaven.
Oh thats not true We believe that he died on the cross and that 3 days he was risen from the tomb. We believe many things but If I were you I wouldnt do any religion bashing because I will defend my faith with no hestitation
The LDS leaders were forced to admit that the Joseph Smith prophecy was erroneous (multiple wives) in order that Utah could become a state. So, is Smith a false prophet? Congress has regulated LDS on other occasions. What type of religion is this?
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity religion &morality are indispensable supports In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens reason & experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles
It is religion & morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue & if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure than they have it now they may change their Rulers & the forms of Government but they will not obtain a lasting liberty
get some fucking maturity. First off, his name is African. Second, the whole "Obama Osama" shit is fit for fuckin' preschoolers. I refuse to take anyone seriously who engages in this kind of childish bullshit.
Now, let me remind you. We already have a muslim running for president, and that's obahma. He went to a muslim school, so he was taught and (look at the name) believes in a religion that wants to cut your head off.
Let me remind all the evangelical X-tians here that Mormonism is a heresy, just as much as Islam. But what's so funny is that I GUARANTEE that if a Muslim was running for office, who was just as qualified as Romney, and advocating the exact same platform, all of you would be bashing him.
BRILLIANT! In the words of columnist Kathleen Parker, "Mitt Romney did what he needed to do — and more. He did what we needed to do, which is to remember and appreciate the profound implications of religious liberty, as he put it. He showed us our better selves and did what an American president should do: He set an example of intelligent civility and refined humility." GO MITT!
This guy is as plastic as they come. Hearing him talk about religious faith makes my stomach turn. He's already sold his soul for money and power and is the poster boy for everything wrong in America.
I think Mitt is probably a nice guy with good morals and I support his right to believe in whatever he wants but I will also exercise my right not to vote for him because of his mormon beliefs.
Wow, best speech money can buy - and believe me, it was paid for. A man that can string a sentence together in front of American Flags - who would think this possible. Convenient that he didn't comment on how Church of LDS was officially a racist organization until 1976.
My understanding is that African Americans are still not allowed to go to the upper secret levels of their temple towers but that they can be basic low level members now as you stated and for the longest they taught that blacks were cursed and marked.
Your "understanding" is incorrect. African American members can hold any position in the church. There is no "low level" status, you are a member, or you are not (and no members are cursed or marked). About the temple, it is not a race issue at all. No one but the highest leaders of the chuch enter into certain areas of the temple. Does the Catholic Church let anybody into the inner walls of the Vatican? Same concept.
Whether or not it is right all depends on your perspective. I have never heard a member of the Catholic church whine because they were not allowed into the Vatican. And I have never heard a member of the LDS church whine because they were not allowed into those areas of the temple. No one is complaining but people who don't understand.
There has never been a time when African Americans were not allowed to be members of the LDS Church. It is a fact that there was a change of policy in the 70s. But, if you remember, there was an extended period of time from 1955-1968 or so where most policies concerning race were reevaluated. It was called the Civil Rights Movement. So why is the fact that the LDS Church made a change so offensive?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your information is incorrect, blacks were not allowed into becoming mormons. Mormons believe that blacks are cursed but in the 70's they sort of reworded it to fit modern day mormons.
Hey Flipper! Do you like cheating on the polls! That's why, he not a christian! Mitt Romney, like to makes, like everybody is voting for him! But they are not!
For those of you who say religion and freedom go don't go together, consider this. If there is no freedom others can dictate how you believe and what your allowed to read. That is the reason why men died to bring about protestantism. If you don't have religion you have no inside desire to have freedom because power will be more important, because those who don't have presonal conviction believe freedom come by having power.
Martin Luther--one of the founders of protestantism--said that jews should convert to christianity or be expect to become slaves or killed. Do you know nothing of what you are talking about?
Care to back any of that up? The men who brought religious freedom to America were deists and not Christians. Jefferson and Paine hated religion and were both necessary for bringing us freedom. Did they have no inside desire for freedom and did they try to usurp power? You are a moron.
I don't believe this pandering idiot when he says that the "province" of his Mormon beliefs will end "where country begin." He frames the problem as if it is the religious factions who are being attacked. But they want those of us who don't subscribe to a religion to sit in a classroom and hear, without debate, about how God created everything 5,000 years ago. Rational people, on the other hand, don't mind people questioning evolution or other scientific findings, because that is academic.
Oh please. As if the Evangelicals really thought a mormon-in-chief would prosletyze by coercion. The reason people were worried about a mormon in the WH is because they believe in crazy things and their putative prophet was a convicted "impostor". Mitt didn't defend mormonism at all. He defended religious liberty which was not under attack or even perceived to be.
Why is it that you think Mitt Romney is supposed to be a spokesman for his church? Why should he HAVE to defend Mormonism? Mormons believe in crazy things? Like what, strong families, faith in Christ, serving others....yeah, we really wouldn't want someone with THOSE kinds of values int he White House. Pure ignorance on your part.
You obviously know nothing of the founding fathers. And you obviously miss the point of why people criticize Mitt's "faith". It's not because he is religious but because his religion was officially bigoted until 1978 and he has never publicly decried some of the church's actions. Not to mention it is an obvious cult created by a convicted fraud.
So you can honestly say you would appreciate being persecuted for your religion, faith, or beliefs if you were running for president. You know what, maybe I'll hold off on hiring anyone at my company who isn't an Athiest, since apparently thats how we do things now in America. You act like this ISN'T discrimination. It's not fair to single out one candidate for his beliefs, and not the rest.
You miss the point completely. Would you accept a polytheist for president or a sceintologist? If so, would you accept them blindly like Mitt wants us to do? We are not asking him to defend his favorite color or something irrelevant. As an atheist, I will defend all my positions on any subject that I am informed on. He has yet to articulate for even one sentence why he is a mormon and not a catholic or lutheran, etc...
Wow, that is ignorance in its purist form. Mormons are not part of a cult you idiot. It's people like you who are the downfall of our entire society. You obviously know nothing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
People like me? You mean people who treat homosexuals as our fellow Americans and homo sapiens? People like me who have never thought blacks were soulless and could only enter heaven as a slave like the mormon CULT did before opportunistically changing? It's people like you who are the downfall; those that will think highly of anybody who believes in any religion, regardless of its absurdity.
How can you sit there and criticize someone like Mitt who has such a good track record? He is a good father, a good husband, and as far as the blacks go, have you seen what he said on the Jay Leno show? He broke out in tears when he found out the blacks were being given the priesthood. His father marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., and he has always appreciated that. Do some research before you start criticizing people about their beliefs. Mitt is a good man and a good leader, PERIOD!
Some of the founding fathers were religious, some were not, almost all of them rejected catholocism and the church of england, many were actually masons and I suppose if you can justify momonism as a religion you could called the masons a religion as well.
Mitt ROmney is a phoney. He says that there should not be a "religious test." Yet, he then says one must have faith to be President. Just listen how he panders to old man Bush.
He is a complete phony and some people actually think he is genuine. Freedom survives perfectly without religion and religion did just fine for millenia without much freedom. Of course he forgot to mention that religious tolerance means tolerance of those without religion. And teaching god as part of our history? Give me a break.
Who taught you your history? Those that came here were trying to have freedom of religion, so why shouldn't the fact that our nation was created and fought for by people that believed in God be taught as part of our history? If everyone could be tolerant and accepting of others beliefs like they were in the beginning of our country, we would all be better off. And by the way, maybe you should get some information about Joseph Smith from a source that is accurate.
I think we had different interpretations of what he meant by teaching about god in our history. I don't know anybody who denies the religiosity of SOME of the founders, so my interpretation was that he meant including god in the teaching of creation. 2 different subjects.
? You are ignorant of christian history(political and religious history are one and the same during most of the last 2 thousand years). you think there's something bad about an idea of peace, and forgiveness, i.e. true christian values? Moral responsability is more important than civic liberties, and is the only safe course to insure civic liberty, or "freedom" as you call it. idiot.
Are you willing to forgive Osama bin Laden? Isn't he just another misguided child of god? Has Christianity always been about peace? And just remember exactly which of the Founding Fathers gave Mitt the freedom of religious expression and exactly how Christian they were. You might be a little disappointed. Idiot.
Your comments in this entire thread are the epitome of the very core of what's wrong in our society and country today. I hope you see real truth some day.
I would say the same thing to you about seeing the "real truth" and would question your authority on telling me what that "real truth" is. To me, the real truth is that the mormon church was officially racist until 1978 and that they opportunistically changed to fit the societal norms (as they did with polygamy). I also believe that Joseph Smith was a convicted fraud and that no thinking adult can possibly believe that the mormon religion is the best there is.
Gentlemen, please, you can vote for an Atheist, a Jew, A Christian or a Pagan, people will vote for whoever they believe will do a good job for their interests as well as the interests of all, but Romney just seems like a well polished piece of fool's gold and he really didn't talk much about his faith as he claimed he would.
Define robot. The guy hit it out of the park; he succeeds at everything he touches - business, olympics, politics and speaking on difficult a difficult subject.
Well you could start by watching all the clips of him as a gov. saying he is more pro-gay than Kennedy and didn't think we needed more Reagan/Bush. Now he is as anti-gay as you can be and mentions Reagan anytime he can squeeze it in. And did you seriously ask why it matters what his views are when he is running for leader of the free world? Give me a break.
Wrong! Either you believe gays are equal or you don't. I do and so does any thinking person, but you don't change those principled views based on your constituency. People representing Detroit may have to represent the economic interests of the big 3 motor companies, but no politician is ever supposed to change their principles.
As for being equal, sadly it often appears that some groups are created a little more equal than others when it comes to liberty and freedom within this Republic. Romney is a true NeoCon just like the Bush Family and his principles are based on global corporate earnings.
Religious tolerance is, like Romney said, an important aspect of freedom. If this is the case, then why his religion is such an incredibly important element of what his political accomplishments and business practices can obviously overshadow. How amazing would it be to see such a morally sound and true representative of what the American family values are at its best defeat a woman who has no personal respect or appreciation of family and marriage in the least, obvious from her past actions.

Religion or no religion. This man is a crook no matter how well dressed, or perfect his haircut, and would screw over any number of people needed to make a buck. When he says "he wouldn't put the teachings of his religion ahead of political decisions", he's telling a subliminal truth.
Wow.....GOOD JOB MATE!!!!!! Props to Religion, props to politics, props to Mormonism....well actaully I say that for fun since I am mormon but still!!!!!!!
dsjake, what are you so scared of? Our country was founded on Christain principals. And if you read the constitution there is no such thing as seperation of church and state. It says the government "will no establish a religion"
The actual term "separation of church and state" came from a Thomas Jefferson speech in 1802. But part of the First Amendment implies it: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... Also it's interesting to note that the word "God" does NOT show up in the Consitution. I'm just trying to promote acceptance here not isolation by holding "christian values" on a shrine and undermining values of other faiths or nonfaiths.
I disagree with you dsjake, but am impressed with your presentation. The fact that "christians" founded the nation is true. There were even some phrasology in some state constitutions requiring elected reps to declare core christian beliefs. Which of course I don't agree with. Just interesting. I do NOT WANT an athiestic government though, but People who are firm in their own beliefs be it whatever...
Agreed. Our country was founded on the enslavement of blacks and the genocide of Native Americans which are clearly endorsed in the Old Testament. If our country followed "christian principles", we would've turned the other cheek after 9/11. I didn't hear one christian say that Osama was one of god's children and that we should forgive him. Shows you how worthless "christian principles" are if you really do follow all of them and aren't opportunistically selecting them.
Exactly which Christian principles was this country founded on? I've heard this claim many times, but have yet to see anything remotely like democracy anywhere in the Bible, or anything like the Gospel in the Constitution.
If you want to see a form of democracy in the bible study the organization of the Israelites when they were being led by Moses. It was a pretty basic example of democracy. And what is "the gospel"? I am pretty sure what my definition of "the gospel" is much different than yours. That is why I appreciate being an American and the freedom we all have in that respect.
Thanks for responding. In the thousands of years described in the Bible, the only "democracy" you can point me to is a 40 year period where the leader was an autocrat installed by God, who dictated laws he claimed came from God?

This "church" has been regulated by Congress.
dikdix 4 years ago
Why would blacks want to be Mormons? It isn't a theologically Christian faith. Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist and Catholic Churches will not recognize Mormon baptism, as Mormonism is not true to Christian theology.
dikdix 4 years ago
These days many methodists, presbyterian and many Baptists stopped baptizing in the name of the Father and Son and Holy spirit and their baptism is not accepted by Orthodox Church or Catholic Church. That being said, does that mean that a presbyterian should be excluded from politics because of his faith?

People (including ourselves) call us "Mormons"
but our actual name is
"The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints" so how can you say we aren't of Christian faith when we have "Jesus Christ" in our Religions name. Also every black member 12+ has the Priesthood.
hence we arent racist as having the preisthood is an honor to have.
besides religion should be out of politics.

My understanding is that African Americans are still not allowed to go to the upper secret levels of their temple towers but that they can be basic low level members now as you stated and for the longest they taught that blacks were cursed and marked.
runningchance 4 years ago
Your "understanding" is incorrect. African American members can hold any position in the church. There is no "low level" status, you are a member, or you are not (and no members are cursed or marked). About the temple, it is not a race issue at all. No one but the highest leaders of the chuch enter into certain areas of the temple. Does the Catholic Church let anybody into the inner walls of the Vatican? Same concept.

Whether or not it is right all depends on your perspective. I have never heard a member of the Catholic church whine because they were not allowed into the Vatican. dedgeorge 4 years ago

For those of you who say religion and freedom go don't go together, consider this. If there is no freedom others can dictate how you believe and what your allowed to read. That is the reason why men died to bring about protestantism. If you don't have religion you have no inside desire to have freedom because power will be more important, because those who don't have presonal conviction believe freedom come by having power.

Not to mention it is an obvious cult created by a convicted fraud.

So you can honestly say you would appreciate being persecuted for your religion, faith, or beliefs if you were running for president. He has yet to articulate for even one sentence why he is a mormon and not a catholic or lutheran, etc...
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
Wow, that is ignorance in its purist form. Mormons are not part of a cult you idiot. It's people like you who are the downfall of our entire society. You obviously know nothing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
FightingFireWithGreg 4 years ago
People like me? You mean people who treat homosexuals as our fellow Americans and homo sapiens? People like me who have never thought blacks were soulless and could only enter heaven as a slave like the mormon CULT did before opportunistically changing? It's people like you who are the downfall; those that will think highly of anybody who believes in any religion, regardless of its absurdity.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
How can you sit there and criticize someone like Mitt who has such a good track record? He is a good father, a good husband, and as far as the blacks go, have you seen what he said on the Jay Leno show? He broke out in tears when he found out the blacks were being given the priesthood. His father marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., and he has always appreciated that. Do some research before you start criticizing people about their beliefs. Mitt is a good man and a good leader, PERIOD!
Reeder113 4 years ago
Some of the founding fathers were religious, some were not, almost all of them rejected catholocism and the church of england, many were actually masons and I suppose if you can justify momonism as a religion you could called the masons a religion as well.
runningchance 4 years ago
You Need to read up on masons...
You know many of the early mormons were masons?
chainmaillekid 4 years ago
Very impressive. The best political speech I have ever heard. Support the man or not, you have to give him props.
sburtonhome 4 years ago
This man has my respect, as well as my vote. I would be proud to call this man "Mr. President".
myway43 4 years ago
Mitt ROmney is a phoney. He says that there should not be a "religious test." Yet, he then says one must have faith to be President. Just listen how he panders to old man Bush.
jurankin 4 years ago
He is a complete phony and some people actually think he is genuine. Freedom survives perfectly without religion and religion did just fine for millenia without much freedom. Of course he forgot to mention that religious tolerance means tolerance of those without religion. And teaching god as part of our history? Give me a break.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
Who taught you your history? Those that came here were trying to have freedom of religion, so why shouldn't the fact that our nation was created and fought for by people that believed in God be taught as part of our history? If everyone could be tolerant and accepting of others beliefs like they were in the beginning of our country, we would all be better off. And by the way, maybe you should get some information about Joseph Smith from a source that is accurate.
dedgeorge 4 years ago 2
I think we had different interpretations of what he meant by teaching about god in our history. I don't know anybody who denies the religiosity of SOME of the founders, so my interpretation was that he meant including god in the teaching of creation. 2 different subjects.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
? You are ignorant of christian history(political and religious history are one and the same during most of the last 2 thousand years). you think there's something bad about an idea of peace, and forgiveness, i.e. true christian values? Moral responsability is more important than civic liberties, and is the only safe course to insure civic liberty, or "freedom" as you call it. idiot.
montpellierelder 4 years ago
Are you willing to forgive Osama bin Laden? Isn't he just another misguided child of god? Has Christianity always been about peace? And just remember exactly which of the Founding Fathers gave Mitt the freedom of religious expression and exactly how Christian they were. You might be a little disappointed. Idiot.

Your comments in this entire thread are the epitome of the very core of what's wrong in our society and country today. I hope you see real truth some day.
lkbdo 4 years ago
That was to ErnestAnastasio, BTW
lkbdo 4 years ago
I would say the same thing to you about seeing the "real truth" and would question your authority on telling me what that "real truth" is. To me, the real truth is that the mormon church was officially racist until 1978 and that they opportunistically changed to fit the societal norms (as they did with polygamy). I also believe that Joseph Smith was a convicted fraud and that no thinking adult can possibly believe that the mormon religion is the best there is.

Gentlemen, please, you can vote for an Atheist, a Jew, A Christian or a Pagan, people will vote for whoever they believe will do a good job for their interests as well as the interests of all, but Romney just seems like a well polished piece of fool's gold and he really didn't talk much about his faith as he claimed he would.
runningchance 4 years ago
Define robot. The guy hit it out of the park; he succeeds at everything he touches - business, olympics, politics and speaking on difficult a difficult subject.
No robot can do all that.
geschwarz 4 years ago 2
And he succeeds at changing all his views to fit the Republican electorate and making people think he is sincere.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
Is it not the task of the politician to represent the views of his/her constituents.
sburtonhome 4 years ago
No, but those people who don't are usually called one-term politicians. Romney has changed his views so he could run for pres.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
And how do you know what his views are? Are you Lds? Why does it matter what his views are anyway?
mcbanks16 4 years ago
Well you could start by watching all the clips of him as a gov. saying he is more pro-gay than Kennedy and didn't think we needed more Reagan/Bush. Now he is as anti-gay as you can be and mentions Reagan anytime he can squeeze it in. And did you seriously ask why it matters what his views are when he is running for leader of the free world? Give me a break.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
As a governor, his policies were supposed to respresent the population's interests as a whole, because that's what elected leaders are for.
FightingFireWithGreg 4 years ago
Wrong! Either you believe gays are equal or you don't. I do and so does any thinking person, but you don't change those principled views based on your constituency. People representing Detroit may have to represent the economic interests of the big 3 motor companies, but no politician is ever supposed to change their principles.
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
As for being equal, sadly it often appears that some groups are created a little more equal than others when it comes to liberty and freedom within this Republic. Romney is a true NeoCon just like the Bush Family and his principles are based on global corporate earnings.
runningchance 4 years ago
Religious tolerance is, like Romney said, an important aspect of freedom. If this is the case, then why his religion is such an incredibly important element of what his political accomplishments and business practices can obviously overshadow. How amazing would it be to see such a morally sound and true representative of what the American family values are at its best defeat a woman who has no personal respect or appreciation of family and marriage in the least, obvious from her past actions.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Religion or no religion. This man is a crook no matter how well dressed, or perfect his haircut, and would screw over any number of people needed to make a buck. When he says "he wouldn't put the teachings of his religion ahead of political decisions", he's telling a subliminal truth.
RedDelPaPa 4 years ago
So in other words you want a man that comes off of the streets in gubby atire with greasy hair and lead this great nation? For some reason I disagree

Wow.....GOOD JOB MATE!!!!!! Props to Religion, props to politics, props to Mormonism....well actaully I say that for fun since I am mormon but still!!!!!!!
LOL!

dsjake, what are you so scared of? Our country was founded on Christain principals. And if you read the constitution there is no such thing as seperation of church and state. It says the government "will no establish a religion"
pngtisa 4 years ago
The actual term "separation of church and state" came from a Thomas Jefferson speech in 1802. But part of the First Amendment implies it: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... Also it's interesting to note that the word "God" does NOT show up in the Consitution. I'm just trying to promote acceptance here not isolation by holding "christian values" on a shrine and undermining values of other faiths or nonfaiths.
dsjake 4 years ago 5
I disagree with you dsjake, but am impressed with your presentation. The fact that "christians" founded the nation is true. There were even some phrasology in some state constitutions requiring elected reps to declare core christian beliefs. Which of course I don't agree with. Just interesting. I do NOT WANT an athiestic government though, but People who are firm in their own beliefs be it whatever...
montpellierelder 4 years ago
ErnestAnastasio 4 years ago
Exactly which Christian principles was this country founded on? I've heard this claim many times, but have yet to see anything remotely like democracy anywhere in the Bible, or anything like the Gospel in the Constitution.
grupolavolta 4 years ago
If you want to see a form of democracy in the bible study the organization of the Israelites when they were being led by Moses. It was a pretty basic example of democracy. And what is "the gospel"? I am pretty sure what my definition of "the gospel" is much different than yours. That is why I appreciate being an American and the freedom we all have in that respect.
dedgeorge 4 years ago
Thanks for responding. In the thousands of years described in the Bible, the only "democracy" you can point me to is a 40 year period where the leader was an autocrat installed by God, who dictated laws he claimed came from God?
