okapi's are not extincted.they may be in the wild but are deffently found in captivity.the tazmanian tiger - as i did a hole 9 page assignment on-
IS 100% extincted. farmers where payed to kill as many as they can as there where thought it be man killers. soon as conservationists noticed the species rarity & how famous abroad it is they then saved 2. one died soon after (in a different zoo), the one in the photo was thought to have been a male but was in fact a female.
By the time she was the only one in captivity they wanted to find and save all the last onces (to re-populate) as at that time (the last year of her life) she was protected and was and assuming there MIGHT be one out there is still illegal to kill them now.
It's like going around trying to kill or save a animal that is almost defiantly extincted. no one wants to try to find them.
Plus every one in tazmania - back then hated them so much now most people love them. As so do i, they are amazing.
@Catarrhini sorry couldn't help myself, but seriously no one knows for shure... unless you come up with a video of you running around the forests of tazmania encountering nothing but shrubberies and tazmanians there remains a possibility, even the slightest, of tazmanian tigers still existing. I mean the Pink Headed duck was recently rediscovered, and so was the dinosaur ant, you can never know for shure. not long ago goblin sharks were thought to be extinct, get the picture?
@KaiserGray94 : Funny enough, that's been done several times. There even one longitudinal study that went on for nearly a decade. Twice there have been multi-million dollar rewards offered. We know as well that this species is extinct as is possible to know that any species is extinct - indeed, more so than most. It has been extremely extensively researched. Although, a few years ago they finished mapping the mDNA and are decently close to being able to clone one. No, I assure you. It's gone.
Tasmanian Tiger's had a very specific niche within a relatively small environment. They don't have gills to be swimming around in the vast ocean and seas. They don't fly. They have literally no way to remain elusive for nearly a hundred years with every searching technique exhausted - especially not to have bottle-necked long ago, anyway.
And they're not small like anything like an ant, either. We'd just as soon find a Velociraptor, and if somebody is going to tell me, "Hey, that could happen", I suggest they remove their tin-foil hat and seek therapy.
You might think im crazy but i believe every weird new creature in the last 100 yrs. has been coming from the center of the earth! Exactly like that movie. My explanation: Since all this crazy shit has been happenin, Ex: global warming, melting ice caps, earthquakes, sinkholes, ect... they got out, any "extinct" animal, is really underground. Fascinating and terrifyingly true.
@SteampunkFridgeRider ikr? 2000 for me. also, when he said this is an example of how animals kep finding ways to survive, they will only be able to survive until we finish them off purpose or not.
@guineapiggy202 They are extinct now. There been no CONFIRMED sightings since 1960 period. By confirmed I mean sightings by scientists, or any form of photographs. In 10-20 years it will be added to the extinct list by IUCN.
Please Read! Great news! Hula Painted Frog was rediscovered!!!! In the Hula Valley!!!! Please check maybe there are some good news about other extinct animals.
I'm sure people know about Okapi before 2005, as I recall seeing an Okapi at the Bronx zoo in 1998 or maybe 2000 and being captivated. I'm not sure if this was just in reference to Okapi in the wild, but they have not been extinct because they have been in captivity. In fact, I think I took pictures of the Okapi and I did a report on them in school back then and I don't ever recall hearing that they were extinct.
@canon5D007 I completely agree with you, but cloning is much, much more complicated than it seems, and that's certainly saying something. Most animals that are truly extinct have DNA that could be used for cloning. Scientists tried to clone a thylacine, or tasmanian tiger, but the only specimens left were taxidermed and had been sitting in museums for years.
Nevertheless, the DNA that was extracted from a taxidermed thylacine was unusable. However, if people were to find a live thylacine....
@Shamuluva0328 : Yes, but I think they have never been extinct at all, thank God, I hate it when animals go extinct. I can almost cry when I see pictures of the Thylacine and the Caspian Tiger and even the Dodo.
@tristan17schulz It's gonna be thinking.. "Wait a minute. Who are all these humans? where am i?" Then it will run through the building to outside. and see Manhattan and see there's 2 billion humans surrounding it.
The only thing this proves is that humans should not make the same mistake twice - let's not fuck things up this time people, cuz' there won't be another chance. Let us help nature preserve the heritage.
@Kaamitis In ice age, well from what I've seen and heard about caveman theories is that we hunted mammoths and used them to extinction for our own survival.
@sugl1964 There is no real proof it was a killing machine, the reason it was extinguished is that British settlers thought they were killing their sheep when there were also feral dogs that were the likely suspects.
It's illegal to kill Coelacanth but they tend to get caught in deep see nets a lot since they're so big. For all we know this fish was accidentally caught.

Uhh... The Thylacine is still extinct. "Many reported sightings" don't mean it's been taken off the list. It's why you weren't able to use a clear digital photo of it and resorted to black & whites.
The Okapi was never thought to have gone extinct as a species, they were thought to be extinct only in Congo's Virunga National Park. I don't think that counts as a rediscovered animal.

@darkmyzreal Have you ever thought that the animal didn't need to change to survive?
Maybe before spouting that smarter people than you have limited knowledge, you should do a little research. No good scientist would refuse the possibility of a creator, but merely ask for proof - of which none whatsoever has been given.
@djvardar I thought you were going with the thought that sailors nommed them all cause they were so tasty crap. My bad.
Yet again, evolution has no basis, all the things people are being taught are blown wide open. But people still believe in their own philosophies and in their limited knowledge. glory to Jehovah.
