Maximum amount of leverage if you use "Chevrolet"? Lame. I love Chevrolet...good cars. BUT, can't they come up with something better to do than wasting time coming up with reasons to use "Chevrolet" vs. "Chevy? Oh yea...repay the bailout money!
Sorry Chevy, but I am losing confidence with you every day. At least Ford got it right (and I used to be adamantly against Ford).
@GoUSofA Brand Management (which is the discipline in question here) is a VERY important part of selling any product. They have entire departments dedicated to it for a reason. Anyone with a first-year education in marketing or sales can tell you that.
@lekoman I understand your statement, but in the case for Chevy, we all know who Chevy and Chevrolet is. Anyone in the world knows Chevy vs Chevrolet. It's not like we have Chevrolet being called, for example, "US Motors" which people might not be know except only in the USA. But, that's not the case...so stop wasting time and money for "Brand Management".
How did these guys get hired at GM? How? Absolutely horrible marketing misstep... I have ideas that will sell you a lot more cars. I've written letters to you in the past - to CEO's Wagoneer and that one that lasted about a year. Contact me in Ontario, CA - Richard Castro. I would focus on increasing sales here in California more than anywhere else. Have plans to increase sales in the US / overseas, but learn to market as things are changing rapidly. This "change" is not going to increase sales!
first you are a british or something like that second who in the word let this idiot became the vice president of Chevrolet and please such you mouth off and stop saying the "we love " Chevrolet you are no a and american you are a stupid British thing

Too late, you distracted from that... Actually, there is a "Chevy" Chevrolet sold in Mexico. Double talk and a PR mistake is what this sounds like to me. Are you telling me Chevrolet is ending it's sales of their "Chevy" model in Mexico. Chevrolet Mexico website lists a "Chevy" in their list of vehicles sold. Allen, You don't have a grip on what AMERICANS think, go back to where you came from.
dude... you should set the video camera on a desk. its like watching Blair Witch! great publicity though... who knew that this would get the chevy heartstrings strumming. sometimes you just fall into something.
The dingos ate my Chevy! ...and they must have been nipping at the heels of the cameraman. Whatever message these guys are trying to get across - all I'm hearing is AMATUERS!!!! Is this the best GM has???

@YoBoy2004 : Seriously. It seems like just about everyone is a "VP" of something or other at these big companies. If these guys are VPs, it's no wonder Chevy needed a bailout from the government.
This is embarrassing. A VP making a Mickey Mouse video.
The VP obviously has no clue when it comes to name brand around the world. If he takes a walk on any European street ask people which they recognize more Chevy or Chevrolet, the answer by far will be Chevy.
Whitacre needs to take the swift action he is known for and get rid of this very unprofessional VP and the group that is giving this poor marketing direction.
At first I thought eliminating CHEVY from our culture was ignorant..now I am starting to think this guy is brilliant as CHEVY got a ton of FREE media coverage on his move. In the USA today they had a big article on it ths morning and I am sure most media outlets did something with it....so I am going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and if he manipulated the media for all this coverage genius may be a better word to describe his media savvy..I LOVE CHEVY!!!
In one day GM showed it has no clue how to market their products OR how Social Media works. Not good considering they are trying to display a new GM and lure investors in with the ipo just around the corner. Let me address the social media issue (since the idiotic decision to remove chevy speaks for itself). Instead of fixing the problem, GM thought they could tweet and YouTube an explanation that is just as moronic as the original mistep.
You guys need to learn some basics of video production. Just because it's ad hoc or "social" doesn't mean it has to be craptastic. Read my article at PRSA's Tactics website.
@slubetkin I also thought this elimination of Chevy was idiotic...I am now starting to think brilliance prevailed over ignorance as CHEVY got massive media coverage on this. In the USA TODAY I read about it and this Alan guy said he was laughing..maybe he was laughing for he manipulated the media to get all this coverage and had no geniune intention of eliminating Chevy..so I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt as I would say CHEVY got at least a million dollars worth of publicity.
We were on a conference call with this guy not too long ago and I can't wait to hear his extended and complete definition of consistency....I think Chevy will soon be superimposing New Yorker lifestyles on Texans and vice versa in commercials in an attempt to save money....if local groups can't localize their advertising message and relate the folks in their respective back yards the whole concept of dealer group advertiising means nothing..check out gmdealergroupadvertisingdotcom...Go Chevy
What an idiot! This guys whole career is based on ideas and I;m sure he thought this was a good idea and once it back fired he's trying to distance himself as fast as he can and not lose face. I'd have a modicum of respect if he said he made a terrible mistake and he was wrong. And to finish up, I wouldn't buy one those shitty cars anyways!
@floydflys72f Hyundai has Chevy beat big time in quality and design. I drove the new cts and then drove the new Sonata.... The 20k Sonata blows it away.
@gunnlover Its like this...... If your girlfriend keeps cheating on you your dumb for staying with her. Both of my Cadillacs were total crap and GM service was horrible. I had Chevy stickers everywhere in my room when I was a kid. Sonata was designed in California and the GM unions can suck a dic*.
GM should petition the Government for permission to buy a tripod. Alternatively, they could hire three UAW members to help hold the camera steady. Jobs, jobs, jobs!

This dumbass move was likely designed to eliminate confusion in China and other developing nations between Chevy and the Chinese brand, Chery. The two compete in many places and Chery will likely compete with Chevy here as well in a few years.
I was shocked when I heard this morning the discontinuation of the word CHEVY...I thought someone really fell off their rocker and this person was sure to be fired soon by GM....poor Don Mclean would have had to change his lyrics to...I drove my chevrolet to the levee and the levee was gone...well gone would have been the genius who ever brought this to the table in due time...glad somebody came to their senses as Chevy is as much a part of our culture as apple pie. gmadvertisingdotcom
I tend to use Chevy only in reference to the trucks. For "official" or other places where I feel like using proper names and grammar, etc. I use Chevrolet. But when abbreviating it for use in conversation, a truck is a Chevy and a car is a Chev. I don't know why...
