  • I wish I could give up all hope about true love... But this very music is enough to make me accept the fact that I'm really really willing to be vulnerable and miserable like this.

  • Sniff, sniff... oh, damn ninjas cutting onions.

  • 38 people were born without souls.......

  • Makes me cry every time :'(

  • This always gives me chills. I'll always remember these scenes from up, but sometimes when I listen to this piece, i'll drift away into my childhood and think about the simple times when grass was green and the sky was blue, the scent, the soft wind... just in it's purest form, happiness. Innocence. Then at the end, i imagine being there, knowing everything i know now, and having been through everything i've been through, and never wanting to leave, but knowing i must...

  • Honestly Up is a Great Love story! Twilight is Wonderful Love story too! READ THE DAMN BOOKS and you will understand STUPID ASSES! Don't just watch the movie and not read the book and JUDGE the story! #Just saying!

  • @losserboi808 Actually i've read it, not very good and i don't like how meyer picture the vampirism, but it's my own opinion, not hate, just don't like it :)

  • In ten minutes, this had me bawling. In 7, Twilight made me gag. You think that this is coming from a 90 year old lady? Newsflash: I'M THIRTEEN. We need more movies like Up. Thumbs up if you think this statement is true.

  • @lissabear135 I would give you a thousand thumbs up if I could. Glad to see someone with sense around here. haha

  • I'm not angry at the dislikes on this video, I'm just sad for those who didn't feel sad. Such an emotional scene :'(

  • 1:19 oh no miscarriage!!!! :'(

  • The first 5 minutes of Up is still a better love story than Twilight.

  • @FreedomForOrcas I honestly think this song by itself is a better love story than Twilight.

  • @mushroomcloud46 - Agreed 100%.

  • Up . Best Pixar Movie. Ever.

  • I USED TO WATCH FIRST 10 MINUTES OF UP EVERY WEEK

AS A GREAT GREAT LOVE STORY

  • My eyeballs are sweating.

  • This is my theme music for life. It has it's ups and downs, it's fun times, and times when you want to run and cry to yourself inside a hole. You have quirks, just like this song. The quirks sometimes stay hidden perfectly, then come out when you least expect it. This song is my theme for life; you never know where it's headed.

  • 38 people never loved.

  • i am not gonna cry,i am not gonna-to hell with it!

  • 3:17 onwards, my heart has broken.

  • True:

Pixar told a better love story in 8 minuets with no dialogue than Stephanie Meyer did in 4 books !!!!

  • *crybaby mode ON*

  • ... (gah wrote too much) maybe the other piece was an influence. That is allowed, and if it was, that would explain the similarities. it's not a crime for things to be similar.

All the same, the music is there to be enjoyed, not to be fought over.

Okay. I'm done. As you were, folks.

  • @89frisco that other song may sound similar, but yeah It doesn't match. There's a difference between music written for orchestra and music written for film - the film music was written FOR the visual aspect, whereas the other wasn't. (yes, you can imagine imagery while listening to it and it can be based on the visual, but I'm hoping my point is clear all the same)

Also, great composers throughout history have taken ideas from others, and they are all considered great. Maybe the other piece wa

  • This song is so freakin excellent. It uses almost only one chord progression and melody, and even similar instrumentation, but through effective use of dynamics and musicality, it's able to take something that sounds like childhood, and change it into heartbreak. It'll always make me choke up a little bit.

  • Imma go cry now if nobody minds...

  • I Watched This Movie .. Tha I Listened This Soundtrack .. Than I Watched This Movie Again...

  • You know when the music starts to slow down that's when the saddest part happens. So emotional ;_;

  • great soundtrack

  • This whole soundtrack is so beautiful to listen to

  • -Starts to cry-

  • every time this soundtrack played in a movie i cried!!! It's just so touching ;)

  • 3:17 :(

  • 1:11 ;( BEST

  • Oh god this scene made me cry :'( but I absolutely love the song

  • i am just so happy that this music won an oscar and not justin bieber

  • I like so much this song ! :)

  • What is this sorcery?!!

    O': ¦

  • I don't like this song. I watched this film with my girlfriend. This song make me miss her so much.

  • @anhhoangkct hey yo también vi este vídeo pensando en mi ex novia hace recordar momentos increíbles inolvidables.

  • @anhhoangkct what happened to your girlfriend? or if you think that im being really nosey you can just ignore that i was alive. but you dont have to dislike this because of that. everyday you can look for her. i lost my friend that was like carl and i was ellie but im not giving up. im looking for him. its not impossible. dont be too sad... good luck.

  • We needed tissues in my house when we viewed this film. And I cried relentlessly when watching Toy Story 3, for Andy is my age generation.

  • *Manly tear*

  • @FoobyZeeky all tears are manly bro

  • Personally I think the absence of lyrics explains their lives better than a song with lyrics could. The animation is the lyrics itself.

  • I found a snipe in our house

  • Beautiful :)

  • This song make me happy

  • a beautiful song!! :'D... it has well deserved the oscar!

  • Awesome song

  • This is the most amazing soundtrack ever. Even in the absence of lyrics, it has a magical ability to still convey Carl and Ellie's story. With each note, throughout the melody, you know what's happening, even without the words. Plainly brilliant. :)

  • Awww! :'-]

  • this is awesome

  • @89frisco

That Farolito song sounds really nice, but just because he used close to the same instruments doesn't mean he copied the song. And honestly, it doesn't have the same feel that Up does. Farolito is classic latino music while this song has a more Italian and French feel. And btw, Michael Giacchino wrote this song.. not Hans Zimmer. I met Michael Giacchino and he is the humblest man I've ever met. :) He rocks! <3

  • @Lelapea hahahah i know i made a mistake by saying hans zimmer wrote the song, its this nobody michael giacchino that stole it and he should be ashamed of himself for taking credit for something he didnt entirely create. dont try to change the subject the point is that the song was stolen

  • @89frisco michael giacchino is not a "nobody" at all- hes written lots of music for a bunch of popular movies, video games, and tv shows

  • It's not the music that gets your, neither is it the video, it's the combination of the music and this video that really makes you wanna cry and smile at the same time. cause that's the beauty of tragedy :P

  • i love UP!!! (actually the old couple)

  • Fuckin rip off.VIVA FAROLITO

  • This song is a complete rip off of the song By Agustin Lara "Farolito" but most english speakers will never find out since "Farolito" is in spanish, the song was made in the 1950's !!!!!! hans zimmer you should be ashamed of stealing this song !!!! Long live the real author Agustin Lara and long live the real song "Farolito"

  • @89frisco no offence, but i actually think the Up version is better. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheoAman yes i made a mistake dude, the lowlife that stole this song is michael giachino not hans zimmer my mistake i apologize, the point is that the song was stolen and this lowlife michael put his name on something that he didnt entirely create, this is the definition of plagiarism its putting your name on something that you didnt entirely create, this lowlife michael is stealing from one of the greatest composers in latin american history

  • @89frisco Some notes are the same but that has nothing to do.

It is a completely different melody. Better than the song. Many music patterns remind us of another one but that is because there are only 7 notes. Don't be so mean with him. He's a GREAT composer. All his other scores are great.

On the other hand couldn't he just be inspired by this song? I mean his score for the movie SUPER 8 was composed as tribute to John Williams and that is why it reminds a lot the soundtracks of Williams.

  • @89frisco You are over-reacting and being quite judgemental by calling the composer a "scumbag" and "lowlife." Firstly, yes I can definitely see the similiarities between the song you are referring to and the piece that was written for the movie, and so you do have, to a certain degree, a legitimate point. However, with only 12 different pitches in Western music, you only can get so many combinations, and so you cannot jump to a conclusion quite so quickly. (Will continue in next post)

  • @89frisco Furthermore, notice that the themes are only similar towards the beginning. However, even that is different as Farolito is in D, and the guitar that introduces the theme goes A F# D (D Major triad right there, like most basic part of the key) but the notes only go down, and then follow through to C# and then B, C#, D, B. Up's 3 note opening to the main theme following the introduction goes F(F natural) A F. The direction of the notes are already different from Farolito. (Continued)

  • Afterwards, although the notes go slightly down, the melody leaps up, unlike Farolito which goes down and tries to be more melodic by going up in steps, while Up has, like I have said before, those small energetic leaps in pitch. Also, you may be referring to the violin soloist, but they have completely different roles. If you are talking about a violin solo itself being rip off, I'm pretty sure many many composers from the far past would like to claim the first usage of a violin solo. (cont)

  • @89frisco As for the pure usage, the violin soloist of Farolito introduces a whole new melody, while the one in the theme of Up takes the theme introduced by the trumpet and simply repeats and slightly expands upon it with some added glissandi and more notes. Lastly, if you actually mean to say that the rhythm (Strong weak weak, strong weak weak pattern) and waltz is being plagiarized, I don't know who invented the waltz, but he/she would have some problems with Farolito as well.

  • @89frisco hans zimmer...this album was produced by michael giacchino...

  • @Lovegood44 my mistake yes this soundtrack was indeed produced by michael giacchino but thats no the the point the point is that it was stolen from Agustin Lara "farolito" song which was produced in the 1950's michael put his name on something he didnt entirely create and didnt give any props to the real author this is plagiarism indeed, i guess when an american steals from a mexican it doesnt matter

  • @89frisco First of all, it's impossible to create a melody that sounds completely individual. Second, I doubt that if you weren't able to tell the difference between a piece made by Giacchino and Zimmer, that you were able to legitimately make a true judgement towards the art that is this song.

  • @MrGameboynate lol what does me confusing the authors have to do with the fact that the melody is a rip-off from Farolito by agustin lara , the guy won an oscar for putting his name on a melody he didnt entirely create putting your stamp on someone else's invention is plagiarism is taking credit for something you didnt entirely create, i dare you to put the farolito song and watch this "up" video on mute and you will see the essence and the basics of the song is a rip-off

  • @89frisco That farolito song is good and it might sound close, however I did what you said to put the song with tho video it does not mach. Although that Farolito song is really good

  • @89frisco sorry, but I can hear no real similarity. Maybe it's because the two are both "jazz"/waltz like, and may have similar chord progression, but they are completely different besides these.

  • this is probably the best pixar movie song ever.

  • Thanks for the adventure, now go have your own! Love, Ellie

  • This song makes me so touch!!! if you think too vote up my comment!!!

  • brings a tear to my eye ., and the memories of my Ellie ;*)

  • 3-John Williams

    2-Hans Zimmer

    1-Michael GIACCHINO

  • @SeriesAreMyFavDrug debatable...

  • @Keytaster Well I always hesitate between zimmer and giacchino. Zimmer may be a god on earth but Giacchino is my personal FAVORITE, and that maybe be because I'm the biggest JJ Abbrams fan. What do you think?

  • @SeriesAreMyFavDrug Well, I think Giacchino is the most overrated composer in Hollywood besides Hans Zimmer who, after winning his Oscar, has never again achieved quality; most of his work is repetitive, copied from himself or others, and/or always sound the same. Giacchinos work is merely mediocre, "Up" was nicely done, sweet melodies, some nice chord progressions, but overall NOT worth an Academy Award. There other great composers who have been blatantly ignored by the Academy, e.g. Newman

  • @Keytaster Well you might be right... I also love Newman, Danny Elfman, Harry Gregson-Williams.... :)

  • @SeriesAreMyFavDrug great that you mention Gregson-Williams, because most people tend to forget him :-) He's a very, very good composer; I really enjoyed "Man on fire" and "Kingdom of Heavens", but there's one thing about him: He is still to find the top of his potential, for me. I think, he can do even better. He's a candidate for Academies in the future if he keeps up his good work.

  • @Keytaster I've enjoy his work a lot and I think you're right. BTW i've enjoyed this conversation :P keep me posted if you listen to some awesome scores :)

  • @Keytaster Dude I just saw HP 7- Part 2 and the music was pretty awesome the movie two ! I think Alexandre Desplat made us all including john Williams proud :)

  • @SeriesAreMyFavDrug Thanks, mate. Great, haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm pretty agog with curiosity... Alexandre Desplat is a genius, really. I has made so many great soundtracks, I really liked his score to "The King's speech", sentimental, quiet, emotional, and spot on. "Girl with a peral earring" was amazing too.

  • I have an Ellie, we've been together for 12 years already, still no kids. This makes me think about the possibility of loosing her...I'm crying now.

  • in 5 minutes pixar can make you fall in love with a character and then have you bawling when they take them away. its incredible how easily they can portray emotion

  • i was watching the movie for like the 6th time and i couldn't get pass the funeral scene because i was crying to much! i always get tears but never like that before... this movie makes more sense and gets better the more i watch it.. i just wish i had someone like Carl and Ellie had eachother! :/

  • 33 people are +50 and never got married.

ps.: this musics sound like ratatouille soundtrack, too.

    Love this music :)

  • @chickstwix I keep thinking that too! I think it's because Michael Giacchino wrote the soundtracks for both of them.

  • @chickstwix cuz michael giacchino also composed ratatouille soundtrack :)
