They only had problems with people downloading music from their newest albums that got leaked. @mccinaz I've seen Metallica 10 times. Lars was good in 1 of those shows. His live style is a little lazy and careless. Metalllica influenced me hugely. They're definitely one of my favorite bands, but I have to side with people that say Lars sucks live, because he does. His drumming is inaccurate and almost takes away from the original material. If you want to see a great live drummer who's dedicated, go see Rush.
@heashon2000 Probably a big reason he sucks live is because Metallica plays likes 18 songs and all of them are like 6-10 minutes long. That would be torture...

@mr4METALLICA I can play the intros to some Slayer songs like Raining Blood and World Painted Blood. And most of Enter Sandman, but I still need some work on solos. Ive played guitar for probably 4 hours today :D. Almost got Paranoid by Black Sabbath completely down.

@mr4METALLICA I havnt started on Angel of Death, Enter Sandman is actually pretty easy as long as you have the right distortion. Paranoids solo is pretty nice but rest is pretty easy. Slayer is very fast at guitar, mostly because they use two leads. I think Kerry is the better one, he plays most of the thrashy stuff.

The reason they sued Napster was not for the illegal downloading itself, but because one of their albums (not sure which one) was leaked and downloaded. It was not even finished tracks so that's why they sued.
Also it's not about the money, but the principal of what's happening. If you were in a band working your ass off day and night to finish an album would you like people downloading it for FREE?

But if you only like 2 or 3 songs out of say... 8 - 10 or 12? and that album is $15 - $30? what is the point? Let it grow on you THEN support the band, buy the album.

The reason they sued Napster was not for the illegal downloading itself, but because one of their albums (not sure which one) was leaked and downloaded. It was not even finished tracks so that's why they sued.
Also it's not about the money, but the principal of what's happening. If you were in a band working your ass off day and night to finish an album would you like people downloading it for FREE?
You know the band pays for studio fees too?!

The internet is the best way to find new or old bands these days. Especially in countries that are strict on what can be bought/sold, etc...
You come across a band and want to hear a few songs... Type it in YouTube, last.fm, Myspace, torrents, and whatever. You like the band? you like the music? go out and buy it.
But if you only like 2 or 3 songs out of say... 8 - 10 or 12? and that album is $15 - $30? what is the point? Let it grow on you THEN support the band, buy the album.

Using the internet to share/steal pre released music/movies/software ect... is surely wrong but if the material has been issued already i don't see the big deal, Sharing music always happens, before and after napster, how many of you ever borrowed a metallica cassette from a friend(that's how i first found out about them) Remember the bootleg days, pirated copies are what got their name out, i can't remember anyone freaking out about the dual cassette recorders that where sold by the millions!!
