hi, im from the Philippines and has always been a merman, well i live by the coast where our old folks tells us stories about real 'KATAW' (mermaids) the local fishermen has seen.. Filipino's had several movies with mermaids on it. anyway i just posted this coz im a huge fan of yours.. nice job!
Originally I used Pumpkin seeds that were remolded slightly into scales. They were layered onto each other like scales and I filled the gaps in between with ordinary clay before making a mold of them.
wow best ep. yet I love you your so cool. Hey where do you Live are you hiring and what age do you have to be? lol because this would be awesome to do.
I can be very boring at times. Hours and hours of work. Mostly repetitive work that takes patience and lots of time. There ore few people who can take this kind of work and still keep their sanity.
The seeds were originally just so I could make copies of them from separate molds. It took around one month (working around the clock) to make special patterns that help make a quilt-like effect and it ties together all the pieces. This is the first time this has ever been accomplished!!! No other mermaid tail has ever been created this way.
You'll have to write to me in my mailbox for additional info. It's quite involved and not everyone goes to this length of having something like this. But feel free to write anyway, I always try to write back when I'm not in the shop.
cool if your birthday is on April 12th then your bitthday is a day after my sister's b-day! That's so cool and happy birthday :) anyway that tail is so awesome!
Haven't visited here in a while but now i did and did i enjoy your new parts (6 & 7) somehow i suddenly feel like i want part of me to be scales, should i beg help? anyhow... way to go! and late birthday congratulations!
Your work is absolutely fantastic! How many tails have you made for people/how many shows or movies have you made them for? Also, how many hours/how much money do those cost?!? It must be a lot!
Sorry for so many questions...I'm just fascinated! haha
Thanks for the comments! They're a lot of work, and many hours go into them. Somewhere between 560 and 580 hours goes into just one tail, they are very high-tech for being a universal tail that works both above and below water. I've been doing tails for films and projects since 1989. Next year will be my 20th year doing tails!
More like I mold what I have here, and make a copy of this in silicone. The green stuff is the scale surface that was created from jigsaw type pieces (but that's secret). It's made so you can't see where they fit together.

Why do you have to cut off the fluke? You glue it back with crazy glue? lol But seriously why not leave it alone?
22storm44 2 years ago
This is just one step in many for the tail. It all gets put together later with more silicone.

I live in Budapest, Hungary and over here it takes a lot to get work permits for anyone not from Hungary.... Sadly.
Best thing to do is to search youtube for free info. Here you can learn to do anything these days.

They do look nice! Though I can't take much credit for the "Dyesebel" tails looking as nice as they do, I'm thankful that they asked for help.

can you add dye to the silicone of the scales or do you paint them after they're scaled?

I use a combination.

so you are going to CAST the cohesive body of casted scale jigsaw pieces, to make 1 PIECE (a body) of silicone scales? Is that right? :)

For my current clients who are watching their tails being made. But the more I posted clips, the more it has turned into a series.
