I take the meaning of this song to be, about a man who has trauma from the past and is haunted by night terrors... and she is afraid to leave him alone while he sleeps (because night terrors can be VERY horrible, people even become violent or hurt themselves during them sometimes) And that she is saying, if the demons from his past want to destroy him they will have to go through her first. I could be wrong but that is how it comes across to me. The park/candle etc could just be pretty metaphors
