For some reason I was singing this song and thought I should search it out and man am I glad I did. Where do you play? I need some of this old school church.
I play for my organizations national meetings but I am not currently employed as a musician. Maybe one day I'll get good enough for some church to hire. Thanks
I began playing the piano my father owned when we lived in the projects in Greensboro, NC at age 5. Dad is a Gospel musician you see. I then began playing organ at age 12 because dad had me to get off the drums one Sunday night at church and get on the organ. My friends laughed then. But no one seems to find my getting on the organ funny anymore.
Push in the first two drawbars to 2 or 3 and pull out everything else - then see how it sounds. That will allow you to play in the center of the keyboard and make your high notes higher and more dramatic. These adjustments will sound differently for different organs.
Do you think that you could play the song "Run & Tell That" for me in the key of C#/Db please my choir has been asking for this song for a while, I just can't get the right changes or I could be playing it ti slow. Please Help Me!!!!
I wish I could help you with this project. We just started back at the university and in addition to teaching 4 classes - I am enrolled in two graduate courses. Needless to say - I am up to my neck in work. Additionally, I still have to rebuild the preamp on my B3 and on those of about 5 other Hammond organs. I'd suggest that you find the song on youtube if possible and simply do your best for your choir. That's what we all do anyway. Just do the best you can. Thanks so much. Dr. Kemp
Yea - those are funky keys. I love E & A for certain music and would play this for you but I have to rebuild my B3 preamp. I hope to have it done by the end of the summer but then I have a long list of song requests on top of that. Keep on practicing BigRay.
i like this because it is like the other person commented it is very churchy. It is a good song to play while the church is coming to order and people are waling in so that they come in feeling the glory of God.
all i can say is wow!!!!!!!!! um i want god to bless my fingers that way. i always wanted to play like that but i dont know if its practice or its something u gotta born with i dont know.
Yes - you have to practice as much as you can. Begin practicing 3 hours a day and playing for a small church. That will help to train you. You get born with the ear or ability to process the musical information. Of course, you can also take lessons and learn more - I encourage that - but nothing beats the gift that is given from the Lord. The anointing comes through salvation and devotion to His call for your service on the instrument in the blessing of His people.
You are correct. My daddy taught school for 33 years and I have taught college students since age 20. In fact, I attended N.C. A&T State University with the idea that I would learn my course work so well that I would be able to teach it - not expecting to become a college professor but that is what God had for me. I praise Him for the gift to teach and love what I do each day. Plus I get four months off each year. I am humbled by the goodness of the Lord!!! God Bless you Cdesha.
Boy - thanks for finally dropping me a line. I love your videos!!! In fact, go to my video "I Love You Lord Today." I was talking about you when I mentioned the "Shouting Boy." You are something else. Keep the faith and stay in the race. One of these days, I look forward to seeing your real Introductory Sermon on youtube. Don't forget -call me so I can fly in and play for you. It would be my pleasure. I know we will have a shouting good time.
oh yes the praise song...that one is my favorite...and i've only found one vid of someone singing it and its all quite and low...but if you can play it that would bless my day.
I got you!!! Ok - I will place it on my list right now. The university just started up again and I am teaching a full load of courses (four) but maybe I can get back to working on the list one of these weekends. I certainly plan to try!!!
Can You please make a video tutorial for this please.. Im always been asked if i knew how to play this song at funerals.. please help thankyou GOD Bless
When I was growing up - people simply begin to sing these congregational songs during testimony service. That's how we learned to play these songs. You practice the 1, 4, 5 at home but you really learn to play these songs during church service - that is where you create and produce - under the anointing!! In many churches today, worship is no longer spontaneous but programmed. Services are now Praise Team oriented with vintage songs being left out!!
I know exactly what you are talking about. That is the kind of church(es) I've came out of. However, over the years I noticed we see less and less of the good ole-fashioned testimonial service. A good majority of what goes on is this manufactured praise with the "what's happening now" music
May the Lord richly bless you in your professional research and music ministry.
Guys, I am attending our annual Sunday School - Missionary - Usher Board Convention near Charolette, NC and am playing the songs of old. Man I am having a great time playing for our old fashion testimony service. Our national body tried to go contempory a few years ago at the conventions and the services fell apart - dry. With this old fashion way - I get play shout music again!! Had to brush off the webs on the skills but they are still intact!!! Had to get down on it tonight!!!
I play for McLauchlin Chapel now in Raeford. I mainly play the keyboard, but I justed started recently on the organ. It's coming along okay. I seen your parents a few weeks ago.
Great!!! I hope you find my videos helpful in your developing your playing skills. I plan to visit Raeford during the latter part of next month. I should be there for a two or three days. Maybe my dad and I can do something for youtube!!! That would be great!!!
I enjoy playing these type of congregational songs. Does your church sing songs like this or do they do the more modern praise and worship style of music. I enjoy attending my denomination conventions because I get to play songs like this each night of the meetings. We have CHURCH there. Most of the time on Sundays when I go to church - we sing and enjoy ourselves. I love having CHURCH at the conventions though!!!
We do a mixture. I prefer the old time congregational stuff. To me we have gotten away from urban praise and worship. You know we need some Hammond and something wit a beat. LOL
There was a point in playing this song that I felt the power of God as I blessed the wonderful name (or title) of Jesus which is Lord!!! Every knee shall bow and every tongue must confess that the name (or title)of Jesus is Lord to the Glory of God. Even my fingers on my Hammond B3 organ confess that to be true!!!
awesome
