Why do an exterior Attack? - Well as many have said to cool the fire which is in the flashover phase to limit the risk to BA Crews, but also to limit Auto-Exposure to the upper floors (i.e. the fire jumping up to the next floor via radiated heat shatterring the windows of the next floor up). With one Pump Ladder and Hydraulic Platform on scene (which carries no water) their are limited resources on scene to start an offensive fire attack. This job went to 30 Pumps, and two Aerial Appliances.
@tigger1662003 there are plenty of people there on scene to start fire attack from the interior. The guys that are just arriving can assist the fire attack with back-up fire attack, throwing ladders or assist the guys on fire attack by helping pull hose or by bringing another line in

new look got punished for this fire and fine alot of money due to poor safety regs, the fire alarm went off and they turned it off the first time!!! idiots
@johnfoxall15 They are the little men in the video with the helmets on, holding the hose and spraying water on the hot fiery thingy. Sorry if its a little confusing for you.
1. for that fully1699 guy, steam won't kill them you thick spade. And yes there was lots of screaming, the watch managers first action at the scene is talk to the manager, asking about people inside and harmfull contents inside etc
2. Firefighters in the UK aren't all dramatic heroes who run in and out the building in slow motion when they please saving the day, we have a system. Which means you don't just run in and out unnecessarily
3. Exterior attack? Do what they can from the outside first
experience? actually i've just finished by training for north yorkshire fire service in the UK, i will soon be posted a station. so i think i would know.
believe it or not water cools the flames, getting a jet of water to the window does this whilst the the first BA team is preparing their start up procedures to be ready to go in, there is no need for unnecessary risk. there's no need to carry 100m of hose to the 3rd floor, none of us where there or knew the situation so we shouldn't comment.
@pcjoel999 exterior attack isn't the best way to fight it even though they did knock down a bulk of the fire. you just push it further into the structure. You have to think about the rest of the undamaged property and cause the least amount of damage possible.
I understand how it appears. I'm just assuming they have a system like we do in South Africa where in large buildings, there is a trained fire marshal at all times. This marshal is responsible for establishing areas under threat, controlling evacuation, ensuring everyone is out, and communicating this info to the FD whilst they are on route. Although I agree steam could be a danger, the thermal balance is unstable regardless due to the open/broken windows.
way to just get off the truck and start a pointless attack from outside, steaming and victims inside the building. water expands 1700x, so if there are any victims in there, thats alot of steam probably killing any chance of survival... just a thought
im pretty sure they didnt, because this video starts before the FD gets there. they get off the truck, havent done any primary search yet, and start blasting water trough the window stirring up the thermal balance and creating a lot of steam, an environment that any1 inside wouldnt have a great chance of survival
In short they new a lot more about the fire on the scene than you do in your armchair. Personally with a large empty building about to flashover I would love an exterior attack prior to crawling in to put some wet stuff on the red stuff. There are no lives here to be saved just the lives of the fire crews to be lost. The Oic knows this and obviously knows more about firefighting than your good self.
There were no persons reported inside as I believe. LFB is one of the busiest and best fire brigades in the world and the station that initially turned up would have been Soho- they do around 7,000 calls a year (LFB don't do medical calls either) so they know what they're doing. They are getting water on to the flames to control them before the first BA crew make entry. The steam is dangerous to anyone inside but it will cool the fire.
is it hard to get a job in new look? did u apply to vacancy or did u just drop your CV? im having so much problems finding a job, i have handed out 20 CV to places in westfield and oxfors street.
year the pump, the first truck would of had BA, the hydraulic platform HP only has 2 crew. they BA can only enter straight away if its persons reported, and the location is known. if there is limited number of people.
@FDNYFirebuff2 they should not go in until more appliances arrive. There is no immediate danger to life here. Only one appliance here is carrying water and BA. they have to wait for more resourses before sending in BA teams unless there is immediate danger.
@pcjoel999 you never know though there could be someone inside that wasn't accounted for and you could give them major steam burns. Plus the best tactic is to fight fire from "Uninvolved to involved" so you don't push the fire further into the building. You never hit a fire like that especially in a store like that. Pushing the fire further into the building like that causes more damage to the store and merchandise than you would hitting it from the inside and then pushing it out of the building
i work for new look at the warehouse in staffordshire and i hate it that you can make fun of the serious fire at 1 of our stores i find it rater sick that there are people out there who can think like that
Ever heard of Officers in command? Taking charge of the incident- liaising with others, speaking to control. I can asure u theyre not doin nufin. Infact u should show some more respect to people ready to risk their lives for the public like you
rabbitandnimrod you are clearly a complete idiot. I am sure you ahve no personal experience with fires and one that involves over 100 firefighters is clearly a big deal. Perhaps you should keep your opinions to yourself or at least get some common sense
lol, i was there. i love it when oxford street gets shut down, and all the consumer obsessed fashion victims suffer as they can't buy their new clothes, bespoke furniture and post modern lampshades, drink expensive coffees, and have £100 hair cuts whilst getting super stressed because of the ratrace human traffic.
Wht was the need for 30 pumps, where did you park them all,and did you bring the "street-ends" and flood Oxford St.LFB style.

An exterior attack is useless in this case, "doing what they can" is crap its obvious you have no experience in firefighting

Pointles atteck?
1) Fire control would have confirmed if anybody was trapped and passed this on to th OIC en route.
2) The fire is obvoiusly well developed, this building would have self closing fire doors preventing the spread/ damaged caused by steam.
3)Water does expand by 1700x at 100 degrees c. This is obviously nearer 100 degrees c and the water would expand many times more.
4)The fire conditions are moving towards a flashover with the amount of fire loading in the building.
