King and ELVIS were kindred spirits, that's why they were entertainers. I'm sure they admired each other's body of work, otherwise ELVIS wouldn't have admired black artists and they wouldn't have admired him.
First time I listened, I didn't think it was Ben E. The production and femme vocals are superlative but Ben's voice does not come across with his usual conviction on this cut.. I have been a serious fan, have a large collection of his music and have seen the guy live on several occasions. He is under par here. It's entirely possible that this is deliberate. Think about it.. Oh, and take a listen to, say, Candi Staton's version for more perspective. It's a great song. Open your mind to that.
Very nice version. I have enjoyed every version of this song I have ever heard. Simon from Amercian Idol was asked about SUSPICIOUS MINDS AND ELVIS. Simom gave a one word comment "PERFECT"
I love this song so much. Ben E King rocks. He has an amazing singing voice. I wish I could meet him? I hope he does a show in Hull soon. I wonder if Ben E King watches this back. He is so cute there. I have a crush on him. He is sexy in this clip he's still sexy today. The way he sings it's so smooth Ben E King will always be the king of smooth. The way Kim looks at him in her hotel window bless her she falls in love with him and all Ben E King can do is smile back. I love you Ben E King xxxxxx
Once a song hits your mind, whoever it's by, it will always be there. And no one can do it as good. When I hear this song, I hear Elvis, regardless who is singing it. That's just the way it is. Although Ben E. King does a wonderful job here.
Fuck the Black or White shit. Ben E King placed himself at the top with " Stand By Me " and you want to argue about race. Music has no race. It was beautiful that he sang this song for Elvis.
2buffalo5. I think he just got confused. Its not a bakc or white thing. Its a rythem thing. Elvis deffinatly had plenty of that. Even more than some black artists. Ben E King was a great artist too. He made some great songs over the years. Peace everyone.
He has a great voice, but sounded sooooo white!!!!! If he had been himself and put the soul into it, it would have been a great tribute to Elvis, but as it was it was very---Osmond family!!!!
John, how do a person sound White? I have all ways been amazed when I hear someone make that statement. It implies that there is a certain way to sound Black. In my years of experience in being Black, I have never discovered a uniformity in how Black or White people are suppose to sound. Please enlighten those among us who have learned the secret.
Not a bit racial here, sorry if I offended. A person sounds white to me by not having soul--something down deep that gives the song life. The difference lies inside the person usually. Sorry but Sam Cooke had more soul than the Osmonds--that is the way it is. Again, not being racist in any manner, I have heard some white folks that have soul too--but usually there is something missing. By the way, it is how DOES a person sound white--you stereotyped yourself in that comment.
Thank you for your response. Your previous statement seems to have been based on your opinion rather than a fact, Now I understand, (Don't agree) but respect the right to you having an opinion.. I was simply seeking clarification. I didn't quite follow your logic in stated that I stereotyped myself by asking the question of you. Again, I guess you are offering another opinion. Oh well, who says I need to understand everything. Again, thank you for the courtesy of a response. Peace
I was speaking of your term of the word do as opposed to does. "How do a person sound "! Elvis was white, but that Brother had soul. Ben E. King had soul but showed very little in this clip. That overall is my point and yes it is all opinion--like yours.
To me people all sound the same when singing rather its mo-town or blues whites & blacks, yellows, purples, greens or hell even pinks all sound the same. Just like when a man from down under or a brit sings a song he loses his accent music is just personally expression & it comes from inside & inside we're all the same.
Elvis' Version ist nicht so kitschig und er hat auch mehr Power in der Stimme als Ben E. King. Da hatte ich mir von Ben E. King eigentlich mehr erwartet als eine Schlagerversion...
It is kind of foolish in one way to say that Ben E. King cannot sing Elvis. Know why? Because Elvis can't sing Ben E. King like Ben E. King. Both are different vocal stylists ... both wonderful singers. And, yes, I love Elvis. So don't go there. Cheers! Most enjoyable video!
