  • Thanks for uploading this video. I miss Elliott Smith and I regret that I never heard of him when he was alive.

  • Forever in our hearts,Elliott Smith.

I would have been more than glad to meet you.

You left this world to soon :'(

<3 You brought a greater meaning of love in your music.thank you :'(

    Rest In Peace <3

  • wow just wow

  • The 6 dislikers are deaf virgins.

  • We need some more modest geniuses like Elliott Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and Ian Kurtis, music just isn't the same anymore, the ones with true ability and passion are left in the dark so that the mainstream can shine the spotlight on obnoxious, ignorant, talentless fucking turds such as Katy(the trashy whore)Perry, Lady(fucked up)Gaga, Chris(the moronic woman abuser)Brown, My Chemical Gaymance, Thirty Seconds To Become Fuckwits, Goyte(the pompous jackass), ETC, ETC, ETC

  • I agree one hundred percent, but who's Goyte?

  • @breeeegs

    You don't want to know.

  • He was one of the best acoustic guitarists of the past 25 years at least. He doesn't even have to look at the chords. Simply puts other artists to shame in my opinion.

  • Elliott your music is supreme emotion! You will be forever missed!

  • Very tricky guitar work in this song. As well as being a fantastic songwriter people tend to forget he was an unbelievable guitarist too.

  • this is the best song ive ever heard

  • Ah music nazis who look at people like Elliott and go "he's so great because he's not like Lady Gaga". She's not so bad, and not being her does not automatically make him good. What makes him good is that he is one of the finest melodists I've ever heard in my life, a wonderful lyricist and brilliant songwriter. Sublime.

  • How is it that someone could have a dislike to this song?

  • @yougooddog i was just thinking about that before i read ur post i mean if u dont like it move on but how can anyone really dislike this song so much as to mark it as such is not human i really would like to see to see them and see what they actually like i bet its some lame ass shit like el de barge

  • It is harder to find artists these days who do not play or sing their songs off of the rails. Elliott Smith was so talented and true to his music, style of playing and overall sense of musicality. He knew the listener would be thoughtful and smart. Not one who needed to be force-fed and led around by a series of high flung and overwrought pseudo-musical gymnastics, similar to lady gaga or beyonce.

  • i wish he could of saw how amazing he was.

  • @platedishes

But then would he have been the same modest genius we love and appreciate? The greatest souls this world has known rarely recognize their own power over others. That is, in a large way, what makes them incredible, and all the more admirable.

If Elliott boasted about his success and his ability, he would have become arrogant, pig headed and self-absorbed like so many musicians today that make one small hit and think they're the new king of music.

  • @Bendrix27

Well if he did see himself as someone who had talent and a person who touched others with his music than maybe he would of saw some light in the dark world he viewed himself to live in; if that were to happen maybe he wouldn't have killed himself, maybe he could have realized that he meant a great deal to so many people because of this talent he possessed.

  • This is speed acoustic caused by cocaine.

    THIS IS ANGELES!

  • 6 dislikes. Proper cunts.

  • as far as guitar playing goes, eliott smith carved out a niche that has been barely recognized. a whispering niche with overlapping guitar sounds that shall remain just that in the mainstream... a whisper. lovely man i wont say good innovative music died with him, but not much has happened since. rest his beautiful soul

  • @hestormofet would certainly not say that he came up with this sort of guitar playing...but he was very good at it!

  • God.

  • watch his hand go

  • probably the greatest song-writer of all time

  • One of the only songs to ever make me cry.

  • I would hardly call Elliott Smith an "underrated guitar player", I think it's generally accepted that he was an awesome multi-instrumentalist, let alone guitar player.

  • amazing ,this is a very wonderfull song!

  • Beautiful and true in equal measures!!Thanks for uploading this :) I've just uploaded a really ES-inspired song called Happy Again, would be great to hear what you think..xo

  • real fucking music

  • RIP from germany

  • this song has something else, its not just a song. makes me feel very good, far away from this world full of tragedies.

  • is that stage huge or what?

  • i woulda been like OH SHIT ELLIOTT FUKIN SMITH JUST TALKED TO ME then i'd pass out and regret missing the show.

  • he doesnt try, yet hes magical!:)

    im jealous...

  • good player

  • with my poison aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrmmmmssss

  • Elliot's one of my favorite musicians, and always will be

  • Another Depressed and super talented musician dies at the hand of his girlfriend ....

  • its amazing how he can make his guitar sound like more guitars are playing with him.

  • amazing song

  • Keep in mind his fingers look a hell of a lot faster than they really are due to loosely strumming with all his fingers. Of course there's some picking involved in the strumming which adds so much to the guitar work in this, but just thought I'd point that out :] And ultimate-guitar has a spot on tab btw.

  • He doesn't even need a band to support him. ^.^

  • OMG when you watch his fingers it looks like the video might be sped up. He really was a good guitarist

  • watch his fukken fingers

    :D

  • this is the greatest performance ive ever seen in my life.

the views on it should be so much more.

  • pick it son!

  • "i can see you too" that kinda just made my day

  • That strumming is insane :O

  • Too bad his voice is all muffled on my speakers. :\

  • what did he say before he started singing?

  • @moree21 He said ' Its not bad, its kind of formal.' I think he meant that the place wasnt sold out, so he made a joke about it

  • @mraz93 thanks :)

  • @moree21 "well, ya thanks for coming. its not bad" and then he says something I can understand and the n a girl says "I can see you elliott" and he replies "I can see you too"

  • @imjohnandyouare thank you too... :)

  • @imjohnandyouare na, think it's "i came to see you elliott" and he says, "I came to see you too." cool.

  • @spurriousgod no, it's "i can see you"

  • @catseatingclouds listened to it again, and still don't agree. in any case, i like my version a lot more. makes his reply a lot more meaningful.

  • @spurriousgod no, it doesn't.

  • Awesome !

  • Bravo!!! fantástico!

  • what fret does he put the capo on here? I always thought it was the fifth...?

  • @tkd4life6406 He tunes down a whole step (2 frets) and puts his capo on 7. You can just put it on 5 if you want. He typically keeps his guitar tuned down, since it's easier than tuning down and then back up for specific songs. A lot of his songs are a full step flat, such as Waltz#2, Biggest Lie, Southern belle etc...And on songs that are standard, he typically puts a capo on 2, and for angeles, he puts it on 7..

  • 7. The chords on guitar tab Universe are pretty much right just wrong fret with capo.

  • he looks really well here

  • wow, he plays it so fast here

  • he has such a little like, weak vice, i couldnt hear what he was saying at begining haha, but yeah, this is one of my favorites =)))))

  • Amazing singer, guitarist and song-writer. This song is beyond beautiful.

  • "we can see you Elliott

    I can see you too"

That sounds so poignant. I wish I could have been there

  • songs so beutiful...

why did he have to die of all people

  • bellissima

  • yes- that is the description- bellissima!

  • @fiorentinaregna condivido... bellissima!

  • wow look at his fingers

  • thats crazyness

  • I was really shocked when I heard this on "The Girl Next Door" the other day. That's the last movie I thought would have one of Elliott's songs in it, haha.

  • that surprised me, too!

  • Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.

  • Or some both? And don't forget to add however as well.

  • nah man those are the words of Oscar Wilde. I think if there was a better way to phrase it he would've.

  • I was just reflecting how Elliott caused happiness when he as alive, as well as after he died. I put 'however he died' because to me it doesn't matter if he was killed, or killed himself; he is gone and either way I cherish what is.

  • To spite you.

  • To prevent that any lazy douche bag could cover this song :-) No serious, he was amazing at songwriting and guitar playing. His riffs are truly original and make 99% of all other songs ever written sound like pieces of amateurish laziness.

  • Sorry, I embody evil when online, it's nothing personal :-)

But I'm working on it. Does that work for you?

  • So every jackass like you wouldn't try and learn it so they could put a half baked cover of it on youtube.

Enjoy the fucking music, your sole intent should not be to learn how to play it.

  • You don't have to get mad because I called you out. But really, I didn't come here to fight with some kid I don't even know. I deleted my comments to advoid looking like a "fucktard" to anyone else. Sorry you take the internet so seriuosly.

  • I dont think you should be so agressive online, what satisfaction does it give you. Comment about the video not how stupid you think each other is.

Elliott Smith is amazing. The End.

  • Who are you to tell somebody what they should be doing? Haha. What a joke.

  • simply beautiful.

his songs are like no other.

not to mention he's one of the most underrated guitar players ever.

  • Comment removed

  • how is he not as big as anyone?

  • I dont think elliott worked out much.

  • miss u tonight...

  • I'd say its pretty highly rated. By everyone I know who's ever heard his songs. And deservedly so

  • Elliot Smith was one of the most underrated guitar players ever. His playing was just effortless but so intricate and musical. Most guys would need three instruments to create a texture as thick and lush as Elliot made with that one guitar.

    Beautiful song.

  • @johnpriceuk well said.

  • @johnpriceuk He's easy to underestimate since he doesn't overplay the fuck out of his songs like so many musicians these days.

  • What is the arm brace he always wears? does it mean something? anyone know

  • It was given to him by a fan of his a while ago... At one of his shows in 2003, he says something along the lines of, "My armband's falling off and I've had it for years.. I don't know why I even care."

If I find the show where he says that at, I'll let you know.

  • brilliant thanks!

  • Heh, I just came across that show. It's at Henry Fonda Theater after he plays "No Confidence Man"

"Man, my fucking bracelet's falling apart. Somebody gave it to me, I've had it for, I've been wearing it for eight years, and it's gonna be gone in about 6 months.. I don't know why I told you that, like that's interesting to anyone."

  • It sure as hell is

  • Started to listen to my mates ipod and he had 'Good will hunting' sound track on it.

Simply fantastic, really getting into the guy.

    Fantastic stuff.

  • alot of people who wear those thick wrist bands all the time are covering up scars.

  • Such a great shame that this man's no longer with us. Amazing musician and songwriter, an absolute inspiration.

  • He was on top of his game with this performance.

  • his chord transitions are effortless...god this guy could play

  • I miss Elliott. I miss him being out there creating beautiful songs like this.

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • take a look at his strumming hand... what an amazing guitarist

  • it actually hurts me ill never meet you man

  • but you're gonna love him anyhow :)

  • oh god.

    what a perfect individual..

    beautiful.

  • oh wow! I gotta learn to play this.. it reminds me of a girl i like!

  • Haha this song is great, but let me tell you there are a lot of things that will remind you of the girl you like... it's just the way your brain works =)

  • if you set out to learn this song - don't put it all over youtube like the rest of the people who have butchered the song.

  • what

    a

    voice

    oh god

  • his voice actually sounds so beautiful in this video.

  • This'd be in my top 5 songs of his. absolutely beautiful.

  • I absolutely adore this song. He was just so amazing.

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

  • Look at him on this stage, just simple one microphone and one guitar, everything looks so easy, but he did an amazing result!! how come? I guess it's called "Talented".

    Elliot, you ROCK as ALWAYS!!!

  • i agree with you...own any albums?

i have to get xo and roman candle then ill have them all..

  • those are the only two i have haha! XO is incredible

  • damn i an not English speaking and he id so great, and astonishing!! Where is the good people to recognize his words!!

    He is a legend!!!

  • he looks really happy thats a beautiful rareity

  • how is one person this unhumanly talented?

  • Practice.

  • we will always remember how talented you was

    r.i.p. elliott smith

  • I just discovered Elliot's music a few weeks ago and it's hard to believe I went so long without this stuff. It's beautiful.

  • look at his right hand

  • Holy shit!I just figured out how to play this i'm so happy,i love this man and i love this song... :( R.I.P dude

  • i remember how i found out about him i accidentally bought this song on itunes and i listened to it and i couldnt stop i was literally sitting there for ours and its such a shame he had to go so soon

  • That's how I found out about Elliot as well. I was searching for a song on Limewire and Twilight came up. I downloaded it because I clicked it by accident. When I listened to it after I had downloaded it, I was pleasantly surprised.

  • I remember him playing at Under Acme in NY...the audience, like most in NY, too cool to listen. Cell phones beeping everywhere. People laughing and yelling at each other in lieu of conversation. Suddenly, he stops in the middle of the third song, and says, "Anyone who cares, I'll play for you out back." And he did, all four of us. Our own private concert. One of the greatest nights in my life. RIP Elliott. I miss you a lot.

  • he really did that? :*]

makes me sad i was too young to appreciate his music when he was around :[

  • Ditto.

  • you lucky, lucky human being.

  • his music reminds me of having sex with this fit bird who always listened to him all the time.

  • Elliott Smith was the last great songwriter. Hope we come up with another one. Get out there, guys.

  • "I can... see you too..."

AHHH I just love Elliott so so much

  • someone hit this dude with a bat

  • I love Elliott too. But what do you mean by "so bad live"? I think he was fantastic (most of the times).

  • Someone posted on one of my videos that my picking reminded him of elliot smith. I didn't know who he was then, I am now not only flattered that he gave me such a nice compliment, but also overwhelmed to have taken so long to find such an incredible musician who I am clearly not worthy to be compared let alone reminded to. His music lives on.

  • It makes me sad that I did not discover Elliott until after his death like many people, and how I wish I could go back. My brother put in the Elliott Smith CD on the way to school one morning and ever since then I just couldn't get enough. He then told me that Elliott was gone.I did not want to believe him that such beauty could be taken away, but it is true.I try to tell anyone who will listen about Elliott because his music is medicine.I love it when I hear that new people have discovered him

  • Gosh, I miss him! I would give anything to see him in concert again... <3

  • damn consider yourself lucky to have gotten to see him at ALL

  • If you wanna get good at picking... you need to start at the bottom and build your way up. Start off slowly and work at it and you'll eventually get it. Nothing like the original person playing the original song right?

  • This song is amazing, thanks so much

  • man i wish i could pick like that

  • R.I.P man never forgotten ur my idel

  • amazing :C makes me feel so sad

  • AWESOME!

  • my fav song from him

  • wow, your a horrible person.

  • AnthonyF22 why would you say something like that. You make me sick. Elliot had more talent in one of his toenails that you have in your entire life.

  • i fucking hate you now, this elliott smith is AMAZING, he is the best musician ever, so anthonyF22 you should've died instead of him.

    You make me sad

  • GOD, I miss him.

  • My favorite song of Elliot is "between bars"

  • I love you Elliot =(

  • good god! jeez its like his right hand is like normal speed x4

his hand his blurring hes moving so fast

wish i could play like that XD

  • I miss you Elliott :(

  • man, he plays a mean guitar, damn!

  • does anyone know what kind of acoustic amp ES used?

  • died a legend

  • just discovered elliot and have been gripped by the dark delicacy of this song.........any suggestions for elliots other great song would be great

  • there are tons of them, jay, just look through his whole discography. such a great and prolific songwriter.

  • love seeing him connect with the crowd like that. such a brilliant mind captivated by sheets and dark thoughts but such a beauty behind it all. amazing.
