My 1981 Trans Am "after" duals

yah theres a difference between canada and us,,, I never seen a v6 in a 2nd gen around here,,,they were never available in 80 or 81 iether.... not saying there wasnt ones before then but i think they werent offerend in canada. Here theres alot of 305 chev base model firebirds in 81. Wiki lists a 265 pontiac v8,,,never heard of that either. they were just 267 chev motors??

sbc engines only came into use halfway through 1980, 77 had the 400, 350 v6 etc, 78 had the same, 79 had the v6 and 301 t and non t, 1980 had 301 t and non t and v6, then halfway through started using sbc b/c there was a surplus and potiac was getting out of building their own engine, then in 1981, there were whatever was left over for poncho motors and the rest were simply sbc. i've done my research and that's what ive come up with with, have a good one people

i no firebirds come with v8s yes, but as a BASE option, v6 or 4 cylinders wer offered, u cud still get a firebird with a v8 but it wudnt be BASE

@jcurrieta was that the small block chevy that I've seen in a few 77 or 78's that I've looked at. I was surprised when I saw the valve covers and knew it was a sbc. then I asked the guy what was up.... did you throw a chevy in there and he insisted it was stock and it was a "survivor" car and showed it so, I bellieved him. Only a 267? Would get a woman around I guess. My woman has run out 1st and into 2nd sideways in my bird.... steering like a champ lol love the birds. BUD LITE!!!

yes it is, i have an 89 firebird with a 2.8 v6 every single firebird from 1970-current all the base option engines are v6 or 4 cylinders

@OldestManInCanada no,, u said firebirds have v6 only,,, they dont,,, v8's were avail with all plain firebirds in 70-81. I owned a plain firebird with a factory installed 267cid v8. As for the thirdgens,,, it was the same many plain firebirds come with a v8 LG4 305,,, check em out youll see.

Base model Firebirds, up to 92, could come with a V8. I have a 1991 Firebird came with a V6, but had the option of a 305 TBI V8. Besides the 70s era cars could be option almost however you wanted it to be.

@KLewisChef Firebirds are less optioned in every way. Trans ams have v8s and firebirds have v6s unless you get a formula firebird. they have a big Trans am engine but its just labeled as a firebird.

Is car a true T/A or a clone ? It's odd that there's no sway bar in the rear also the rear sits up way to high nice project though !

@ruwithlee1970 no it is a real ta,,, The fella took the sway bar off and misplaced it while doing the resto. Cowl tag shows its real. And the last owner put a set of rear springs in it,,, they are stronger then stock.

mine sat up high in the front when i replaced the coil springs lasted for about a yr like that but yeah carb tune up and idle that beast down to like 6oo rpm lol

Lol trust me i learned a shit load obout the 79- 81 z28 and busted my ass with it. I was just hoping to get this quick anwser cause i didnt wanna go through like 20 enthernet pages and spend hours and hours reading. I mean like yea i eventualy will but i wanted a quick anwser cause I thought there was a trans am down my street that i wanted to buy from this old ladey but it turned out to be a firebird cause all i can see is the rear end and it has red lights so yea...

probably b/c its cold out. an engine shouldnt smoke, new or old. unless the rings are shot or valve guides are worn.

did TA have a 409 olds engine? i've seen one for sale on craigslist for $3,000 and they listed the engine as a 409. i really dont know much about these cars other than there sweet. my dad had a 77' back in the late 70's early 80's he bought brand new but it got stolen and the theft toteld it by wrecking into a police car

i just got a 79 ta with a 403 and im gonna throw the complete bolt on pypes eliminater exhuast. The question i have have for you is if you know if i could substitute their splitter TA tips with the welded ones that come with the kit? lol the last thing i want is a TA with no splitter tips...i mean that like completed the whole look.  Nothing worse when some moron puts like huge 4 inch straight come tips about the back. You know what i mean, its just looks dumb.
