Why was an attempt not made at fostering her back to health. She is still alive and that's good enough proof to me that they could have tried to feed her thru a tube. Sometimes just plain old fashion love is all that is needed to intervene. Euthanizing her was too quick and easy. Sad :(
I think a fitting punishment for ass-hats that like to have dogs fight is to show these "humans" the same kindnesses they showed to the dogs & then have them fight to the death! Not before keeping them in tiny kennels, full of excrement & no way to get out of the elements, offer them no food or water for at least 3 weeks & let's not forget the savage beatings they often give to their doggie gladiators at any time! As an experienced dog owner/rescuer. That dog was nowhere near death. She still had a little bit of hope in her sad eyes & could"ve been saved with common sense & TLC. But it IS all about the money, sadly. & the fact that she was a Pitbull. & BSL of course! Owner needs his Karma. Soon!!!

A dog in this state, can be saved, but it is hard work...We had a rescue in the same condition as the Pit Bull shown, $1000.00 to remove rubbish, foil,plastic etc, He did survive, but due to unpredictable nature He had brain damage, had to be PTS three years later.

The dog was, sadly, too thin to nurture back to life. The body would not be able to process enough food to save it before it died on it's own and a dog can take only so many fluid packs, sadly. :(

@earthlen Although it's sad, sometimes dogs (and other animals) that have been treated this badly probably won't get better - malnutrition doesn't just affect how much fat it has but it can cause organ failure, and a whole load of other problems - that pit bull would have taken a long time to recuperate, and might have had other health problems, as well as mental disturbance, and it can be kinder to just put them to sleep.
Its not the shelters but the people above them, they have to get permission from the government to keep fighting dogs alive. Also the neglected skinny dog almost definitely had organ failure, which she/he was probably not strong enough to overcome. If people didn't do this, and if people didn't over breed dogs shelters would not have to euthanize animals. Believe me they don't like doing it.

When a dog is that emaciated, there is nothing that can be done. Its iternal organs will have started to break down, and death would have been long and painful.
I know it is normal to feel that way, but once they are that bad, even feeding will not bring them back, they have renal (kidney) failure by this point and no fluid or food replacement can repair their organ damage, it is so sad and SO preventable... a little food and water early on could have saved this beautiful creature!

A dog in this state, can be saved, but it is hard work...We had a rescue in the same condition as the Pit Bull shown, $1000.00 to remove rubbish, foil,plastic etc, He did survive, but due to unpredictable nature He had brain damage, had to be PTS three years later.

@PvtRager Because it will already be in a lot of pain. So the best thing to do is to put it out of its misery. Plus as a fighting dog will have a dangerous nature and wouldnt be able to be re-homed.

The dog was, sadly, too thin to nurture back to life. The body would not be able to process enough food to save it before it died on it's own and a dog can take only so many fluid packs, sadly. :(

@earthlen Although it's sad, sometimes dogs (and other animals) that have been treated this badly probably won't get better - malnutrition doesn't just affect how much fat it has but it can cause organ failure, and a whole load of other problems - that pit bull would have taken a long time to recuperate, and might have had other health problems, as well as mental disturbance, and it can be kinder to just put them to sleep.

Its not the shelters but the people above them, they have to get permission from the government to keep fighting dogs alive. Also the neglected skinny dog almost definitely had organ failure, which she/he was probably not strong enough to overcome. If people didn't do this, and if people didn't over breed dogs shelters would not have to euthanize animals. Believe me they don't like doing it.

not just with this dog but for all animals. some times it's just the dogs time or the animals time. if you have an pet and it is in pain and you know it can't get better, the best thing to do maybe is call it a day for the pet because keeping an animal alive which is in pain or unable to get better is harsh and abuse in a way. people might say "the animal might get better etc" if it does'nt, put it to sleep. it would be the best for the animal. if you were in servere pain you'd just want to die.

I can't believe I didn't hear of this when it happened so close to me! Didn't know the guys though, but I still can't believe they were not only dumb but heartless enough to do such a thing.
As far as proving dog fighting, though in cases like this it's hard, sometimes it's too easy. I know too many people who are gotten on dog fighting just because they own a pit, vitamins and a treadmill.

@ursocoolomg: Just because you see death doesn't mean someone else can't see life. Although the dog is in a bad condition it's not impossible for him to pull through. And if by chance he does....those that saved him can look back and say remember when that dog was so close to death. Didn't think he was gonna make it but he did. Makes a great story and life lesson. As for your grandma, I've known people who their doctor said they have cancer and only 1 month to live. Survived. Let's not go there.

Tons of healthy animals get euthanized a day for stupid reasons like over crowded shelters. If a dog from my hometown can recover from being set completely on fire by it's owner...then this dog had a chance.

"bob's dying" (bob is the name of my girbil) i have gutted and we thought at first "lets take him to the vet, get him put to sleep" but then we thought "no let's leave him. he looks peaceful there" and we left him. then the next day he was running around like nothing had happened. he was recovering from what ever was wrong. so i agree people should'nt jump to death unless they know for shure.

When a dog is that emaciated, there is nothing that can be done. Its iternal organs will have started to break down, and death would have been long and painful.

I know it is normal to feel that way, but once they are that bad, even feeding will not bring them back, they have renal (kidney) failure by this point and no fluid or food replacement can repair their organ damage, it is so sad and SO preventable... a little food and water early on could have saved this beautiful creature!
