  • And no one listened! We have more and more little boxes made of ticky-tacky sprouting up all over. I'm in my late 50's and think of this song (that I heard in my youth) every time I pass through a development or see housing going up...not much individuality or imagination.

  • Perfect illustration of suburban America

  • las casitas del barrio alto... víctor jara, MA-RA-VI-LLO-SOOOO, MIL GRACIAS

  • the song is about Post WWII Urban Sprawl

  • @DarrylBarnesDance Yes it is. I'm glad that someone else knows it for what it is and not a theme song for a stupid show.

  • I want to see the rest of this... DX

  • Pete is a legend - a musical seer, perhaps more so than Dylan and others of his era, of which I am part, though not talented-enough to perform what I felt and believed.

  • my father, who is a lawyer, loves this song! Olav from Belgium

  • So long time ago, so many tears cried, so many hopes, so much love, so many wars, so many deads..and all JUST THE SAME

  • who was seeger talking about at the end that was on the show too?

  • @chrisfloyd77 Dylan, probably?

  • There can't be better song than this. It explains everything.

  • Sorry my comment below was not clear.

The shallow comment was a RESPONSE to jsmeyers24151

  • shallow

  • @Siska0Robert

What seems meaningless in the song is only one alternative of living life, there are so many different ways to live your life, why stick to the one all the people around you are going for? Create your own way! :)

  • Pete Seeger sings it but Malvina Reynolds wrote it--in 1962.

  • FUCK

  • AH he's not saying the lyrics right :(

  • @leguminoso

Do you understand how ironic your comment is, considering the message of the song?...

  • @SgtSanchez LOL now i do

  • @leguminoso

    Glad I could help. :)

  • love it

  • Just the way I feel when I look at the all these boring subdivisions. Not all people living in those boxes are truly boxed in people though. But most of them are.

  • Nothing wrong with being in a box if the box is good for you.

  • @JDBlessin I want to beat the fuck out of you for saying that. Now i realize that this is the internet and thats not possible, but, im just saying: if you were my friend and said that i'd prolly break your jaw

  • @Ahsfb61 Only I have the brains to rule lylat.

  • too pitty, that musicans like Pete Seeger are going to be forgetten. He is such a awesome musican in the war and peace time the last century. Let him be unforgetable!

  • @Zedisch

Musicians will never be forgotten as long as people do not allow it to happen..

If musicians such as Bach and Beethoven are still remembered and revered, so can the true musicians of the 20th century be remember.

  • @Zedisch I don't really think this will go ignored in time. Songs like this still seem to have a kind of relevance. Also "What Did You Learn In School" too. Someone will eventually come along and cover that stuff. Like the way The White Stripes brought Son House back. I think it still has a place.

  • From blacklist to playlist - just lovely!

  • Mine is the ... ( just went outside to check out the colour of my litlle box ) ... yellow one , right , I knew that ! : P

  • the song is about people waning to conform to what everyone else wants for them instead of what they want so they end up being put in "boxes" without even knowing it. also it was common in that time to have a modernistic society where everyone did exactly the same thing so i think this song was also meant as a wake up call to many in that time period.

  • i have a pete seeger vinyl with this track on it :D

  • @khetnhio that's what I meant. The song hits the nail on the head and I think people are realizing this. Hopefully anyway.

  • it's black & white but it's living color.

  • @Siska0Robert You have no idea how accurate that is.

  • @YugiDmega It's not about how life is meaningless.....It's about how the society fits everyone in to the same mold

  • Grande Pete , Grande Victor Jara

  • it's very disturbing song. the life seems so meaningless in it. but weeds solve the problem:)

  • @Siska0Robert ...not exactly, I feel it's more about people being processed through cookie cutters, all just the same.

  • @srpooper i know it's not actually about weed, but man, it does fit! and jenji kohan knew that :)

  • @srpooper ''I feel it's more about people being processed through cookie cutters''

I think you're right, at the time there was a worker who fell inside a grinder at a meat processing plant and he ended up canned. The song is giving us a warning about the dangers of ending up packaged.

  • Best version of Little Boxes is this

  • @eliasasdf i think malvina rynelds is better but i give amazing amounts of respect to both

  • @eliasasdf lol so many thumbs wtf 0o this is the original version sang exactly the same like malvina stupids... dont make comments if you dotn understand what ur talking about... thx

  • @eliasasdf oh well.. he got confused with the lyrics maby thats why you think so :D
