Who gives a shit whether or not he uses a double pedal? It's a damn preference. Any good drummer is gonna be able to play that with a single or a double pedal so why does it matter?

Seriously, it comes down to the sound you want. If you want a more "metal" defined sound then it helps to use a double pedal so your second kick has a harder attack but if you want a nice "melodic hardcore" beat with that punk feel then a single pedal is a better choice.
