The sows you see that are going "insane" are just hungry and they taped it 5 minutes before they get fed, so yes they are going to scream and bang on their crates, just like children cry and throw things when they are hungry. And the dead sows and piglets you see, yes some need to be put down as they are suffering and in pain, and they are put down in a humane way.
Sows in gestation crates are cared for and treated properly. I work with them everyday and we care for them the best we can!

You can still eat meat and care about the well being of animals. I grew up on a farm where we raise animals for food and all out animals are very well taken care of.
Poor animals. Even though life can be brutal in the wild, there is a more equalized playing field and we are dealing with obligatory carnivores that kill because they have no other choice. Humans are the most perverse: we kill when we do not have to kill, and we TORTURE our kills for their entire lives first. Sick practices. All of the factory farm crap is pathetic and people who support it economically are 'voting' for its continued existence. The quickest way to change it? Boycott it!!
And as for those biblical arguments, why in the world would God, our Lord and Savior put these animals on this earth without them serving a purpose? They provide for us, and we should be thankful and are thankful to all of these animals for the nutrients and protein they provide to our bodies.
Each of these snippets of video's just show the FEW hogs that are cut, and are bleeding from their mouths.Hogs naturally chew and investigate, so its no surprise that they will get cut every once in a while, and when they do these processors give them the BEST veterinary care available.They want the pork that they produce to be safe and HEALTHY for US! Everyone realizes that this is the MAIN way you get your bacon in the morning right? These hogs may be confined, but they don't go crazy, this is the most productive and efficient way to grow and slaughter hogs. Did anyone happen to notice the the states that banned the used of gestation crates are some of the LOWEST pork producing states? One of the main uses for sow farrowing crates is so they DON'T roll over and kill their offspring. It's safer and more efficient.
@ChunkyJunkyJewelry I don't think the farrowing crates are what they are getting at. from what i can tell with those huge companies is they inseminate the sow and lock her in a gestation crate until it's time to farrow when she moves to a farrowing crate and once weaning is done gets bred as soon as possible again. I have mine roaming around until right before farrowing and I feed outside the crate so they get out but I can see how gestation crates are bad.
So whats the final solution for you "nonono" people here? To stop the production of pork? Or to shut down the large producers, or slaughterhouses, or what? The 4 that I have, three sows and a boar, are well housed,fed and watered. Is it your desire that I open the pen and release them, or am I to feed them and their offspring for eternity or what? This is why I'm vegetarian. It's the torture and abuse and this is NOT an isolated incident. Every bite of meat one eats contributes to this insanity and horror. I'm healthier now than I ever was when I ate animals.

You need to realize that the humane society of the united states is completely one sided. They show you ONE bad farm and make you believe that this holds true for all farms. Yes, there are bad farmers out there that have no business farming. But, that is such a small fraction. Animals that live under constant stess will not reproduce nearly as well as animals that are comfortable. Animals have a natural instinct that tells them when and where it is safe to raise a litter of piglets.

@IdaMiaDot you've got it backwards. "Free Range" animals are far more expensive and time consuming to raise. Which makes YOUR grocery bill higher. And, as for the crop matter being fed to hogs, most of that is #2 yellow corn, mainly unusable to humans. However, if you eat a lot of high fructose corn syrup or fritos corn chips, then yes we should feed less of it to hogs. And why not pick on ethanol producers if youre going to go down the "corn is for people" road?

Exactly. This is exactly what I believe in. As long as they are well taken care of and respected, and live happy lives, there is nothing wrong with eating them, as long as they are killed humanely. Humans cannot live off veggies alone. We are omnivores, and need meat and veggies to stay healthy, just like any other omnivore or carnivore. But I stopped eating meat from stores ages ago. We grow all our own meat, and sell it to. Go Humane farmers!

I have been a vegetarian since June 2010 and am trying to adopt a vegan lifestyle. I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER and I attribute my improved mood to the fact that I am no longer consuming meat, fish and dairy products. i work at the smithfield plant here in grayson, ky and we dont kill hogs or pigs at our facility, watching this kinda scares me, but i get paid 13 dollars an hour. so i cant complain, i really dont understand why anyone would even care about the pigs since there gonna be chopped up anyways, at our plant, sanitization is everything, we wear frocks and we go through a sanitizer before going to the factory line, we ensure all our products are 100% clean and safe to eat.

Each of these snippets of video's just show the FEW hogs that are cut, and are bleeding from their mouths.Hogs naturally chew and investigate, so its no surprise that they will get cut every once in a while, and when they do these processors give them the BEST veterinary care available.They want the pork that they produce to be safe and HEALTHY for US! Everyone realizes that this is the MAIN way you get your bacon in the morning right? These hogs may be confined, but they don't go crazy, this is the most productive and efficient way to grow and slaughter hogs. Did anyone happen to notice the the states that banned the used of gestation crates are some of the LOWEST pork producing states? One of the main uses for sow farrowing crates is so they DON'T roll over and kill their offspring. It's safer and more efficient.

@ChunkyJunkyJewelry I don't think the farrowing crates are what they are getting at. from what i can tell with those huge companies is they inseminate the sow and lock her in a gestation crate until it's time to farrow when she moves to a farrowing crate and once weaning is done gets bred as soon as possible again. I have mine roaming around until right before farrowing and I feed outside the crate so they get out but I can see how gestation crates are bad.

You need to realize that the humane society of the united states is completely one sided. They show you ONE bad farm and make you believe that this holds true for all farms. Yes, there are bad farmers out there that have no business farming. But, that is such a small fraction. Animals that live under constant stess will not reproduce nearly as well as animals that are comfortable. Animals have a natural instinct that tells them when and where it is safe to raise a litter of piglets.

@IdaMiaDot you've got it backwards. "Free Range" animals are far more expensive and time consuming to raise. Which makes YOUR grocery bill higher. And, as for the crop matter being fed to hogs, most of that is #2 yellow corn, mainly unusable to humans. However, if you eat a lot of high fructose corn syrup or fritos corn chips, then yes we should feed less of it to hogs. And why not pick on ethanol producers if youre going to go down the "corn is for people" road?

Its awful hard to give individualized vet care to these hogs, when Smithfield is killin about 31,000 a day right now. Its really not that that bad of a place and people forget that the only reason these hogs (or any domesticated hogs for that matter) are alive is to be slaughtered for food.

i work at the smithfield plant here in grayson, ky and we dont kill hogs or pigs at our facility, watching this kinda scares me, but i get paid 13 dollars an hour. so i cant complain, i really dont understand why anyone would even care about the pigs since there gonna be chopped up anyways, at our plant, sanitization is everything, we wear frocks and we go through a sanitizer before going to the factory line, we ensure all our products are 100% clean and safe to eat.

@mastax1234 I mean is the abuse of beings just like nothing to you? You seem to just draw a blank, like you cannot fathom to feel anything at all. Millions of innocent lives abused and it's like you just shrug your shoulders. You wouldn't be able to imagine what these animals go through, yet you don't seem to see a problem with it. Unless it happens to you, you don't care. This is seriously messed up - you have to wake up to yourself - this carelessness is absolute brutality.
