Yes! SX200 IS does awesome HD video telezooming! Just watch "Mississippi State University 2010" video on youtube, and read in the description on how to do it!))

this camera can do optical zoom while recording video with autofocus feature with chdk, it works on various canon camera models incluiding sx200 is, the problem is the noise that make the zoom mechanism but canon sx200 has two zoom speeds.

Search a little bit in some search engine, if you don´t know, don´t say things like that.

So stupid! While zoomed out the lens barrel is so heavy that the camera tilts forward. That means if you want to place the camera in a table/wall/etc. and take a self-timer pic, AND USE ZOOM the camera will look down...

Despite that design error, its a good camera.

I really rate this camera, check my other videos for those who say you can't zoom whilst videoing, you can!

Battery life is okay, I'm used to a Canon EOS 40D with a battery grip! LOL

As for not being able to put AA batteries in it, WTF?!? Why would you want to keep having to replace batteries all the time when you can just buy a spare and swap them over? AA's in a camera are a false economy, get with the times, Li-ion FTW!!

nope. no zoom, neither optical or digital. this is the bad part, and the fact that you can't put AA batteries in it and you depend on the charger...

You are partly wrong, you "can"zoom in digital, but not in optical, don't make statements on something you don't fully know about!

i really want this camera, are you happy with it? I've seen some people complain about the low-battery life, thats the only negative thing ive read so far,(been researching about it for hours now,:P) whats your opinion? :)

i've been researching it for hours too. i cant deside between this one and it's strong competitor panasonic lumix dmc-tz7. the only con on this one is that you cant zoom in while video recording and maybe perhaps the battery life as you say. however panasonic lumix dmc-tz7 can zoom in while video recording but only has 10.1 megapixels whereas this one has 12.1. also this one is bigger in size compared to tz7

You can use digital zoom while filming, just not optical zoom.

Hey. The reason you can't use the optical zoom while recording video is that the mic is so close to the zooming mechanism so it would make noise on the audio.
