Thanx 4 posting sweetie!
Hey girl! How are you doing? I miss eating this, but unfortunately, I'm breastfeeding and there's a lot of stuff I have to cut back on for now so that my child won't be fussy.
Hi krzymnky! Thank you for trying my recipes. Unfortunately, I do not know how to make mahm lahong, but I will ask my mom and once I perfect it, I will try to make a video on it.
Hi, bong! This boklahong looks really good. I'm gonna try it once you upload a video on the homemade sauce. I can make boklahong but it never comes out the way the vendors make it at wat. I hope your homemade sauce is the missing piece of the puzzle. Hehe. Well, happy Cambodian new year, bong!
Happy Khmer New Year of the Ox to you kookpebble. May the new year bring you and your love ones joy, luck, health, love, prosperity, and happiness. Yes, the homemade sauce would have a big difference and I did a lot of trials and errors before I came up with my own sauce. Good news, I will make a video on it tomorrow after everybody's been waiting for a year now...hehe!
This is the real Bok La Hong (Green Papaya Salad). Bong, I was wondering if I can get the right ingredients on the papaya sauce.. Oh and congratulations, your gonna be a momma right? :)
Hi paowne dunkstypes. Yes I am and thank you very much. I will make a tutorial on the homemade papaya sauce once it gets a little warmer so that I can simmer it outside...please stay tune.
Hey Bong, I have been watching your cooking videos and they are awesome. Although I have been searching for a recipe on BorBo(rice porridge w/ pork blood) and can't find any. Can you share with me your awesome cooking skills with that? I am pregnant and have been craving it.
Hi paowne pyun00! Congrats! How far along are you? I understand about cravings b/c I have 4 more mths to go. I hope to make a tutorial on that one of these days, but in the meantime, it's very easy to make. If you email me, I will give you directions on how to make it.
Hi bong! I usually POUND black crab(they make it too sweet now) or crab paste w/shrimp paste & fish sauce, sugar, no salt, garlic, peppers, lemon juice, cherry tomatoes. (juice looks like greyish-black color) Taste to desired, then pound the papaya last. Thanks again and I will try it your way.. mmm srork tuk mut haha...
instead of the big tomatoes you can use cherry tomotoes. I really appreciate what you are doing and it shows me that i'm not the only young Cambodian that loves to cooks khmer food.
I've never seen anyone add salt in it too since you already put in fish sauce and that home made sauce. Wouldn't that be too salty? That dried shrimp is already salty too.
That depends on how much salt you put. Just like desserts, who would had thought of putting in salt? Every food needs a pinch of it in order to bring all the tastes together no matter how salty the food is. At the end, it depends on your estimation on how much to put each ingredient to make the overall result complete.
I guess your used to eating really salty foods. But anyways, I'm just not used to seeing people put salt in papaya salad. My mom used to sell papaya salad with the outside vendors in Laos and Thailand and just never seen ANYONE put salt in it.
You must be used to eating a lot of salty foods too if you don't think they have a salty taste to it. If you pop one in your mouth, it has a salty taste to it. I didn't say they were ridiculously salty.
could u give a thorough explanation on how to make the papaya sauce like how much of what to put and what to mix together i would really appreciate it!!
Hi there jaykuoch! The list of ingredients for this homemade sauce is in the parenthesis in the description box. When it comes to cooking, I'm not much of a measurer, but an estimator. Therefore, I would not be able to give you exact measurements. Just know that you simmer all those ingredients together and can refridgerate it.
oh my god it just elude my eyes,i'm very observance too,in siamreap they just make bokelahong right infront my face, the fun part is seeing how it is done ;)
Hi ownsreykhmer27! No problem...please look to the top right side of the screen where the description are...it should have the ingredients right next to the name. enjoy!
yeah,i checked...but when i click on the box that says more info...it just show the ingredients that you put in the papaya salad...i was wondering how you make your special homemade papaya sauce that you put in it....thank you....
thank you...girl,keep up the good work...you can cook...your skills taught me alot...make me wanna go cook for my man now...hahahha...hey,i was wondering...do you know how to cook thai boat noodles?you should cook that next....my request....
your recipe is great..could please let me know what the homade papiya salad recipe is? would love to make for my kiddos...thanks so much for your authentic recipes...
I really enjoy watching your cooking Vid's!!! Can you please let me in on your homemade papaya sauce? It would be so helpful considering I have like 20 papaya plants in my yard *lol
Hi Dreamer4Life777! You are you lucky! I wish my backyard can grow papayas or any other fruits. Here in GA, we have clay dirt...so it doesn't grow crops that well. I have the papaya ingredients to the right hand side of this video under "More Info"...please check it out and tell me how it goes...enjoy!
It's unclean.. These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers; that you may eat. But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales...

Thanks Khmergirl345! In the sauce is: shrimp paste, salted baby crab, fermented fish, tamarind, palm sugar, garlic, chili peppers, fish sauce, salt, and sugar.
well, it's basically the same ingredients. I didn't see a few things that i would add to my salad but that's probably because you wouldn't prefer it in there. like, say fish sauce. plus i just add them in a different order. =) i haven't tried doing the sugar and salt first. i like crushing the garlic first but i use raw garlic. idk, thats how my mom made is so i've always stuck to that.

I love shrimp paste and yes, it makes a big difference. My shrimp paste is already simmered in my "homemade papaya sauce" along with crab paste, fermented fish, tamarind, palm sugar, garlic, chili peppers, fish sauce, salt, and sugar.
Cool! There's a special trick to make the papaya crispy...right after you shred it, soak it in ice water for at least an hour and drain it before pounding it. I never knew this trick until recently when my aunt learned it from a chef that sells papaya.
Oh no...you must not have any farmer's market there...it would save you so much money compared to the chain grocery stores...but thanks anyways! *^_^*
FISH SACUEEEEEEEE :)!!! someone vicky secrets come to them smellin like rotten fish lolz that looks soo yummy tho i wish i knew wat i was orderin wen i went to thai restaunts lolz i look at the pics point and say i want this one lolz
LOL! Don't feel bad...when I went to Thailand 6 years ago, I couldn't communicate with them either and so all I did was point to the food title and raised up 1 or 2 fingers to tell them how many dishes...meanwhile, I'm looking at all the Thai customers eating what they want and my mouth was watering.
Imagine me fedexing it to you and once it broke apart in the airplane, it stinks up all the mail...LOL! Us Asians puts fish sauce in everything...*^_^*
You may not put MSG in your dishes, but you're already added it without knowing. Did you know fish sauce, during fermentation, has a very high concentration of MSG? Whether this is a good thing or bad thing, I don't know. If you can find information about this, please let me know. "The taste that kills" by Russel Blaylock.
You might not put MSG in your dishes, but it's already in the fish sauce, during fermentation and in very high concentrations, so I heard. Whether this is a good thing or not, I don't know. If you can find information about this, please let me know. "The taste that kills" by Russel Blaylock.

just curious, why don't you put shrimp paste in your papaya salad?
do you think it makes a difference
tumama187 4 years ago
I love shrimp paste and yes, it makes a big difference. My shrimp paste is already simmered in my "homemade papaya sauce" along with crab paste, fermented fish, tamarind, palm sugar, garlic, chili peppers, fish sauce, salt, and sugar.

Ooops...didn't mean crab paste...I used salted baby crabs instead.

I made this with grilled chicken for lunch today and my papaya was not crisp. How do I make so that it's not soggy? Maybe I added to much sauce?

Cool! There's a special trick to make the papaya crispy...right after you shred it, soak it in ice water for at least an hour and drain it before pounding it. I never knew this trick until recently when my aunt learned it from a chef that sells papaya.

Only the tomatos and limes are available at my local supermarket. Heh. Looks interesting!

Oh no...you must not have any farmer's market there...it would save you so much money compared to the chain grocery stores...but thanks anyways! *^_^*

LOL! Don't feel bad...when I went to Thailand 6 years ago, I couldn't communicate with them either and so all I did was point to the food title and raised up 1 or 2 fingers to tell them how many dishes...meanwhile, I'm looking at all the Thai customers eating what they want and my mouth was watering.

looks like quite a workout with all that pounding. :)
callmequiche 4 years ago
Ooh hun...believe me...by the end of all the pounding, I probably gained me a bicep or two in one arm...hehe!

Is papaya something other than fruit? What my mom brings home looks nothing like what you've got shredded there...
ghdz1984 4 years ago
Yep...it's a fruit, but you have to get the green version, not the ripe kind for this salad...I like to eat the ripe kind by itself.
forg3tm3not770 4 years ago
Ohh I see.. we eat the ripe kind with lemon =) Your food tutorials look so mouth watering but I'm just so lazy to cook! :P
ghdz1984 4 years ago
Oooh...I never tried that before...I'm gonna have to try that next time I buy a ripe one.
