I think it's pretty clever for them to use a deep voice. I prefer that; plus since they have other ways with their language to portray that he's not supposed to be the super masculine guy despite his voice. Unfortunately we don't have this in English. Although it's an anime character; Freeza of Dragon Ball Z fits this scenario to a tee. He speaks "feminine" in Japanese yet there's no way to do that in English. So, unfortunately we get stuck with female voices for him in English.
