So, my advice to the people crying about the genre arguments to embrace the fact that the band's fans actually have some interest in the music rather than how some deathcore faggots hair looks in his new shitty music video.
People that argue about genres are the people that listen to good music. They mostly argue about genres because the know that they listen to good music, and they don't want their music to be called something it's not by some retard who thinks everything with harsh vocals is screamo.
@BlackHeartInertia86- The genre "Post-metal" as this is called refers to post-modernism. Meaning that it isn't the norm. It gets away from the idea of what metal is thought to supposed to be. Aaron Turner of Isis calls it "Thinking mans metal". It's become my favorite genre. If you are still interested...
I can't get enough of this. Pelican, Isis, Neurosis, The Ocean, Cult of Luna... it all takes me somewhere else. Somewhere alone and dark, but comfortable.
@BlackHeartInertia86 seems to shift from an atmospheric hardcore-ish style to a metal mixed with elements of black metal (esp. the vox), heavy but soothing! Big thumbs up!
genres are to identify musical styles. thats all. to see where things connect and associate with.
all the "my team vs your team" bullshit is teenagers and young college kids who havent been around long enough to appreciate different kinds of music.
@tsyrlb woah chill the fuck out faggot. you don't know shit about me and making such a large generalization about teens being dumb just makes you look like a dumbass. if you even care to know, i agree with you that it's stupid when people argue about what genre a band is. it's completely fucking retarded. but not all people in that age group behave like that.
and yes, i can read. probably just as well as you can. but sarcasm is hard to imply via a youtube comment. and you sure didn't do well.
@tsyrlb and one more thing, there was no reason to be such an asshole. such broad generalizations are rarely true, and i was just checking to see if you were actually saying that or if you were only talking about the teens that behave that way. i said nothing hostile to you and you flipped the fuck out for no reason. so once again, chill the fuck out you dumb cunt.
I recently saw a rad band live called ATOMIS and they stated Cult of Luna as one of their biggest influences. So I checked them out...glad I did!!.....if you love Cult of Luna you should check out ATOMIS here---> atomis.bandcamp. com
Yes I have to agree with Betulas34. Dont compare this band to Meshuggah. These guys have what...like 10 members that play on this album? Get off trying to categorize this band.
I always find it kind of funny, most Cult of Luna videos end up having people fighting over the name of the genre in the comments. You guys wanna maybe just let it go? It's not like anyone's gonna know what you mean when you say "a fusion of post-rock and metal" or whatever, just call it Cult of Luna. The people who know what's up will understand.
@Betulas34 I'm fucken' sick of people saying "FORGET GENRES, MAN" and all that shit, if you got rid of genres, and separated shit into METAL, JAZZ etc, I wouldn't be able to find Buddy Rich Band from Billie Holiday, or slayer from fucken' Attack Attack.
It's called Atmospheric Hardcore. it's a mix of post-rock, sludge metal, doom metal, and hardcore. Isis, Pelican, and Intronaut play this style too, though Neurosis invented it pretty much.
@Ultralazuli I would say that its more often called Post-Metal. As in the fusion of post-rock and metal. But that's just another name for the same thing I suppose.
Im hearing a lot more bass than guitar in this. Unless the guitars are drop 'C' or drop 'B' tuned. Either way it sounds so amazing. OH it reminds me kind of Meshuggah, they play with a similar style of guitar, but have just more upbeat songs.
i wanna learn this guitar effects im my pedal to play this, anyone know this is possible do it in a multiefects pedal? to play this kind of music and etc
when i say this of music i mean isis, cult of luna, tool...(i dont speak english too much) i dont want make a cover just play but my guitar dont sound like this =[ ,
I don't understand your point. Did I ever say that you can't enjoy post-rock and grindcore at the same time? No. I actually like everything between harsh noise to pop.
Cult of Luna rehearsed in an area that was once the site of a long demolished mental institution. Upon moving their practice space to a different spot on the same site, the band uncovered long forgotten relics of the hospital, including old apparatus and medical journals. Amongst the discovery was the diary of Holger Nilsson, a former inmate of the prison placed there after drowning his wife. The diary was titled 'Tales from the Eternal Kingdom'.
Digesting the diary, the band realised that they had stumbled upon the ramblings of a madman. In the diary, Nilsson blamed the death of his wife on the Näcken, a Swedish folk entity believed to be Satan. The diary created a completely imagined world in which owl men and tree men all contributed to a fantasy story that explained why Nilsson was innocent of the crime.
fuck you haters his voice is fucking badass hes a genius and the madman was real cause they hold there practices now at an abandoned asylum and they found a book the dude wrote about an eternal kingdom
this one gives me the creeps every time i hear it and i frikken love it, my fave... the whole concept about the writings of a madman, i mean if it's true or not ... it was a very good trick to scare little girls, like me, before bedtime :P and fire was born also rocks!
I still believe that the vocals aren't necessary in their music. Without, it would hold so much uncontrolled emotions. Their music just doesn't ask for vocals and would sound much more powerfull without. That's my opinion anyway. (By the way, I don't have anything against hardcore vocals, I actually listen to that genre often as well).
I agree. The band and music is amazing. The vocals are the weakest part. It's time to drop the cookie monster impression and think of something that hasn't been done to death and matches the creativity of the music.
Go see them live. Johannes has the rawest vocals, he's way better than for exemple Isis' Aaron Turner. I think the raw vocals is the perfect match/mismatch that makes this music so amazing.
The initial riff of this song is fantastic...but when the voice comes in it kills the vibe for me. There's a beautiful, haunting, unexplored vocal melody there. The pseudo-screaming undermines the atmosphere created by the instrumentation, rather than complimenting it. Great guitar tone though. C+
Apply punk rhythms to 2-note power chords, + add indie fills and metal vox, you have COL. Maybe good when they were a harmonizing noise like Burzum & My Bloody Valentine, but now it's standard dramatic indie rock which like a hipster, does a good game of raising little mystique and then vanishes around the corner, leaving a promise that turns to a disappointment.. an avg album dressed up as something significant. It leaves no lasting power or vision beneath the obvious, trite & controlled.
