I saw Blackfoot open up for THE WHO at the Montreal Forum in early 1980. I thought they were great but most of the crowd didn't give them a chance because they wanted The Who. In Montreal, at least back then, there was a term: "Sacrificial Opening Act".
Saw these guys in a bar in Sarasota, Fl back in the 80's. I was drinkin beer with this dude beside me when they ended a song and invited their friend up to the stage to sing the next song with them. The dude was Danny Joe Brown of Molly Hatchet fame, may he rest in peace. What a night that was as they rocked the house! Cheers!
Funny you mention that because in about 1982, Blackfoot played at the Salem Roanoke County Civic Center with Def Lepard opening and before they closed the show with Highway Song, Rick brought DJB and Ingram on stage to play Edge of Sundown. DJB had left Molly Hatchet and had started the DJB Band. DJB Band was scheduled the next night to play at Radford University in Radford Va.
Actually, Ricky played lead most of the time, or feature soloist. Charlie is fantastic and NOBODY plays twin guitars any better. The Van Zants etc. are excellent, don't get me wrong. The Blackfoot era was excellent for Ricky etc. "Thunderfoot" Jaxson Spires was my friend, not just a musician. I miss the glory days but now I am a 53 year old man with those days in the past. I love my semi-retirement in North Carolina.
thanks rick and the blackfoot band for making a dream come true in my life! too bounce for you guys here in erie back in the 90"s at the 12 th street bar headliners. it was a real honor!!! too bounce for your band!!! thanks for the memorys!!! rest in peace jackson spires! it was a real honor too meet you!! your kindness is historic i will never forget you i will carry your kindness thru this world
Great song, great album, great band. Glad to see some live footage with the studio track as opposed to a bunch of still pics. This song along with "Dry County" were two of my most played songs in the early 80's.
