i used to watch to show all the time.shame it's not aired anymore. be nice if nick@nite would show it.but all they show is the nanny.nobody wants to watch 4 hours of fran grassore or whatever her name is.
Wasn't it Betty White's character that choked to death on a toothpick? I cannot remember. I know one of her daughter's did. Such an odd death. Then again, it was a sitcom.
And, was it just me or did Mama remind anyone else of Dana Carvey's "Church Lady"?
This intro was the best with all characters specifically. It was the best with the whole damn family there. Although Iola is my favourite character, I was disappointed that they only had 4 characters in the later part of the show.
That daughter was such a bitch! She always whined like she was on the rag EVERY episode. She was hot though. maybe she needed a good, you know, squeal squeak POP!"
I saw this show when it was on syndication (re-runs mode) between 1986 and 1989. I was 6- 9 and remember seeing a few episodes. I thought Mamma (Vicky Lawrence) was a man in drag but I also thought Dorothy from Golden Girls (Bea Arthur) was a man too LOL
@AmericanEvita - Many kids believed Bea Arthur was a man...I know I did at one time!!! :-)
As for this show, I never watched it but I do remember when it was on TBS, and later Ion, and this intro has always been burned on my consciousness. The theme song is very catchy though!
To me the photos of the cast members don't look very flattering! However, this makes things more realistic! We all have people in our lives (mostly relatives) who have unflattering photos of us on display! LOL
It lasted for two seasons on NBC (January 22, 1983 - April 7,1984) before going into first-run syndication for the other five seasons (September 27, 1986 - February 24, 1990)
this reminds me of the first time i tripped on lsd. into about hour 8 i started getting hungary and decided to get a snack. as soon as i opened the refrigerator door, i heard the theme song to mamas family. almost as if the refrigerator were some sort of redneck music box.
one of my favorite t.v. show i used to watch the reruns as a kid all the time on tbs. i love it cause she reminded me of my grandma so i could relate lol!
You know, I think "Mama's Family" has a bit of a connection to "The Golden Girls". I mean, In the early seasons of "Mama's Family", it had Betty White and Rue McClanahan, and Ken Berry once appeared in an episode of "The Golden Girls".
I'm surprised Bea Arthur or Estelle Getty didn't appear in any episodes of "Mama's Family".
bea arthur was not allowed on the show by the director because she was too ugly. i often think of bea arthur when i am trying to prolong sex. either her or a 400 lb hairy naked guy sitting on the toilet eating a bucket of fried chicken. maude is usually more effective.
why did you ask me then? you are the one who is gay for bea arthur and wants to know her life story. you should be thanking me for dropping some knowledge on you.
That is not true! All I said was that there's probably a connection between "Mama's Family" and "The Golden Girls" because Betty White played Ellen on "Mama's Family" and also played Rose on "The Golden Girls", and Rue McClanahan played Aunt Fran on "Mama's Family" and also played Blanche on "The Golden Girls". And Ken Berry guest starred in an episode of "The Golden Girls". I am not gay for Bea Arthur. You take that back!
ma'am, i was trying to have an intelligent discussion about the video above. im not sure how it escalated to empty threats, but i would suggest you see an anger management expert and perhaps a shrink about your obsession with bea arthur. i bid you a good day, madam.
i loved this show when i was younger i couldn't wait till it came on they only showed it on odds days like mons or thurs kinda like todays tv prograhms

@weareclouds I thought it was Rue McClanahan, who played Aunt Fran? I could definitely be wrong, though! I haven't seen this show in years.

@DorisDayFanatic it was rue mcClanahan who played Fran
candlelight482 7 months ago
