  • hi kelley...

i am a new subscriber and new to knitting. ur way of teaching is very easy and helpful. but plz can u plz tell me what is "magic loop". those were circular needles i thought so...

  • @bjbabratz Yes, Kelley is using circular needles for the socks - magic loop is just another technique for knitting small circumferences with longer circular needles. For more info, we have a few different tutorials on the Knit Picks channel that go over the magic loop technique step by step.

  • Excuse me, but you did not show how to turn the heel. You just did the heel flap. I want more info on turning the HEEL!

  • @dontlikenumbers If you go to the Knit Picks channel and click in the playlist, you will find Kelley's Sock Class. The next video after this video is all about turning the heel, which comes right after creating a heel flap. The video you want to reference is titled "Kelley's Sock Class - Heel Turn," hope this helps :)

  • Do have written instructions for these socks? I haven't knit any socks yet and I'm going to try this method first. Very good video's. Thanks

  • i knit in eastern (combination style) and i do a K4 TBL and purl 1 regularly. this creates an invisible rib. that is dashing and stretchy and it makes a sock that contours to the leg, ankle and foot without altering the amount of stitches.

  • @soschadao

I just started knitting things other than square's, what does TBL mean?

  • @ailevas TBL means through the back loop of your stitch.

  • For the Eye of the Partridge reinforced pattern -

for the slip st, do you do this purlwise or knitwise, with the yarn at the front or back?

and do you slip the 1st st on rows 2 and 4 as well?

    thanks for any assistance

  • @bbbeezz

Sorry for replying to old message, but I think that some other people might wonder this too.

Generally when saying just slipping its purl-wise. However I cant say for sure if Kelley means purl-wise in this video..

But even if you slip the wrong way if you do it all the way to end it should look okay, but Im not sure as Im novice myself.. :p

And I think she means to slip on all of the rows, atleast thats what I think you should do.

Hope this clears things up for someone.

  • @bbbeezz I just wanted to confirm what @tooka2 suggested is correct. you always slip purl-wise unless it specifically says to do so knit-wise. for the heel flap, you slip only the first stitch on every single row. This lets you pick up stitches for the gusset much easier, which is the next step after the heel flap.

  • I have been watching your videos on mittens to try to see if i could make my daughters gloves. Thank the Lord, i did figure it out and they turned out ok. I looked on Youtube again for starting socks and you are here again!!! You are the best teacher of knitting on this whole internet!! Thankyou sooo much!

  • i dont know what you mean by slip.

  • @TheOtherAmandas How To Slip a Stich: insert your right needle into the stich, then take your left needle out of that stich

  • Wow, out of all the videos on sock knitting I've watched, this one is by far the best, I think after a few more rows of stockinette I might just be ready for my heel flap!! Thank you so much!!!!
