  • US Stocks Slump,

DJIA Posts Worst Two Days Since Nov. '08

Sept-22-2011--NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Investors staged a global flight from risk Thursday that sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its worst two-day point drop since November 2008, after a gloomy outlook by the Federal Reserve renewed fears of an economic slowdown.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 391.01 points, or 3.51%, to 10733.83, for a two-day loss of 5.92%. Investors barrelled out of stocks and into "safe" assets

  • what day did the US dive in2 a recession? i forgot

  • Concerning America's headlong plunge into economic collapse: The Chief Magistrate is irrelevant. "Our" money is bought at face value from the privately-owned cartel known as the Federal Reserve, which is neither federal, nor has it any reserves.

  • Im no economist but I think theyre not the only ones responsible.

  • Haha somone said this was bush's plan this has been forseen been closing in for over 40 years he just happen to be in office when it starts happening

  • we should have a recession in 2001 after the dotcom bubble burst. but came 9-11. bush told everyone to go shopping, not to let Al-Qaeda wins. Greenspan lower the rate to 1%. that was stupid and hubris. this allows carry trade in home mortgage to take place. the home mortgage bubble combines with the dotcom bubble (which it supposed to burst) merge into a giant bubble now burst. commercial mortgage, student loan, car loan, & credit card loan collapse next.

normal capitalism is boom then burst.

  • hay hay hay. ;D c

  • All countries should stop depending on American Economy since it is unreliable. They should abolish globalization.

  • The only thing the two US parties are good at is to make people believe there is no third choice.

There is, if you choose to believe it.

  • get rid of youre cash imidiatly - you best invest in alkohol ... - there you will get up to 40 percent .....:)

  • or maybe legalize and tax weed... i bet the whole world would be richer

  • This is about the same situation Pakistan is passing thru. Countrys economy is being loaned/sold @ the rate of a common mans life leading to anxiety & flux in all departments of life ensuing in no-investment crisis & every new govt blaming the past for all the hazards & again taking its hands out to beg for more loans. The country is being sold out eventually by parts, with disorder, joblessness, fake inflation, injustice & hypocrisy as the main issues resulting in anarchy & suicide bombing,

  • Your message at the end does look gimmicky. =S

  • That's sad. College is expensive but you need a degree so that you at least have a chance at a decent job (decent benefits and pay etc).

However, in the end, you're stuck with a debt that's dependent on your job which is dependent on the economy which is our problem right now.

  • JB-C states the problem is from hedge funds selling shares they haven't got in the hope of buying them back later on at a cheaper price. That is the problem. Hedge Funds based on subprime and alt a mortgages were sold as derivatives to "suckers" around the world and labeled triple A credit paper is precisely the problem that the financial banks created, they should go bankrupt and clients would just move to other banks that did not lie, cheat and steal.

  • what was the ans? how can u profit from the depression?

  • The final countdown!!

  • And good luck to you :) Though am sure you earned it more so than simply luck.

  • I didnt query quality so much as the make up of the universities, in reference to how many actual Americans are attending them. My point is that due to lack luster attainment at the high school level, the quality of our universities literally become academic if we don't have the students to go through them.

  • Yet the IQ of the coutry continues to slip and other countries graduate more scientists than us. Am not debating the quality of the schools or there teaching staff, it's the students we are talking about here, and on that level we loose out.

  • What list? And does that take into account how many Americans are attending those universities? Location of the university is one thing, and you could even have ALL of the top universities in the USA. Doesnt make one dam bit of difference if we are not educating the students to attend them and foreigners are financing it. I myself am an American citizen living in the UK (born here) and in UK universities much of the student population isnt British.

  • Thats a false assumption, gold and silver will still be demanded in other countries. Nothing can only be traded in dollars.

There will always be a demand for gold and silver. (unless people decide they dont want gold and silver anymore).

  • im not canadian. i just live here for a short while.

yes and ur universities are top because its 99% foreigners who go to them.

    especially indians and asians.

  • ya cuz ur schools sucks! and america has sooo many highschool dropouts, THATS why so many work at mcdonalds.. not because of anything else

  • I don't agree. Maybe you're in a lucky spot. Life is getting tough for me and mine.

  • The price of gas has gone from around $3.00 to approximately $4 in a couple of weeks.

The price of a gallon of milk is $4.19 when is was $1.99 a year ago.

The list could go on and on.

  • Your economy is dropping off a cliff, your food and goods and gas prices are rising at a good clip, there are so many guns floating around in your country it makes me sick (ever hear of a child lock people), you let pedofiles (child care workers) raise (abuse) your children, you don't save your money, you spend money you don't have, racking up the old credit cards like morons, you're mostly just debt. slaves is really what I see from up here in good old Canada.

  • Imagine having to pay to go to the doctor, what kind of a country DOES that to people?????? I hope the big flat screen t.v. was WORTH IT in the end, because believe me, the end is near for your country. US is SO OVER. They stopped selling oil in U.S. dollars, red flag anyone?

  • STOP BELIEVING THE LIBERAL MEDIA.

    DOOM AND GLOOM BULLSHIT.

For example: drive by any shopping mall

and you cant find a freaking parking spot.

Just try and eat at any restaurant

you guessed it 30 min plus wait.

Come on folks your not that stupid.

Recession no...just a blip on radar.

  • Yes consumption is not down by that much, but it is consumption that is the problem isnt it.

The US basically consumes much more then it produces which is a situation that cant go on forever.

  • ebay will fix all the worlds problems???

  • I lost my job, and I am penniless, as well.

But I don't have one little shred of debt. So, does that mean I'm well off?

  • I have a massive student loan, consider yourself lucky poodlepup2

  • The next pres is going to be handed a steaming, flaming bag of crap and will pour gas, if they can afford it by then, on it to douse the flames. Then the citizens will be forced to stomp it out.

Gold and silver isn't just a North American commodity so it may be worth something later on.

Best guess is to stock up on necessities.

  • if you're too poor for gold, throw some money on silver. It's 20 bucks a brick, and you know damn well that it's going to explode! buy low, sell high! that's the rule. Get your hands on silver while it's low.

  • buy food first

  • silver and gold will be as good as food. It can be sold at anytime, for any currency.

  • I'll eat my silver thank you. lol

  • People are so afraid of being stuck with a share or a bond that collapses in value that they want to buy the one sure thing they know.

That's a debt protected by the power of the world's biggest government to tax the world's biggest economy.

To give you an idea of how low this is, just compare the 3 month Treasury bill rate with the 90 day bank bill rate in New Zealand, which is currently at 8.86%.

The gap between New Zealand and US short term interest rates is now over 8%.

  • Ron Paul did a great job and I hope someone with his views continues to fight on, unfortunately the candidates for president are pre approved by the ones who benefit from the bankrupting of America, so as long as you are voting on puppets chosen by a foreign interest you will never change the situation. Despite the Ron Paul mainstream media blackout he did a great job!

  • I will just say only one solution: * Increase productivity * Decrease salary

  • Hello. I am not american but I just say. The american company's owners are carrying the money to China while in America the problems are growthing. How do you compete if on the other side of the world people work for US$ 1 in one day. They are just producing electronic things in this moment but they will go for everything: Coca-china, colgatechina, Chery for GM & Ford, "EVERYTHING"...

  • 60,000+ people have lost their jobs this month, Neg. growth for the second month in a row, and out of control inflation...The Dollar is dropping, the Deficit is Rising and the only solution the masses can conjure up is this fill-in-the-blank Rorschach "Change We Can Believe In" BullShit. Getting on Obama(the newest AntiDepressent) and watching the ShitHouse go up in Flames isn't an answer Sheeple...We Are Going To HAVE to TAKE this World BACK OURSELVES...Ides of March Style...

  • The US dollar is taking a shit in the outhouse!

  • yah, the american public rarely thinks outside thier own lives. every one has been dumbed down and made to be afraid. it is sad that so many people think they are doing the right thing, letting the government control more and more of thier everyday lives thinking it will make them safe. not very many people in america are concerned with other countries or the world as a whole, they just talk about it. conversation. blind patriotism that is rapidly destroying our freedom as citizens and humans.

  • It truly is amazing. 1929 wasn't that long ago but TV and public schooling has dumbed down 70% of Americans into thinking so... I hear TEENAGERS supporting John McCain in THIS economic era, a president who self admittedly knows nothing about economics, but is ready to take us to "many more wars"... great!

Benjamin Franklin said it: "Those willing to give up liberty for temporary security deserve and will receive neither."

    I'm an American, and I'm f*cked.

  • dude i totally agree with that, but something else is that every one who votes is only participating in the "popular vote" it is the electoral college that actually votes a president into office. am i right??

  • If everyone takes their money out of the banks, then the banks can no longer lend out 30X as much and collect interest on nothing. Anyway, unless the bank pays you 10%, why give them your money.

  • Can someone explain how short selling works? So you sell something you DON'T HAVE in hopes that you can buy it back at a lower price? How in the world can we expect honesty, integrity, and culpability in a world with financial mechanisms such as this?

  • Yeah, it's a bet that the stock goes down. The opposite of betting that a stock goes up. I don't see anything morally wrong with it, I do it all the time.

  • Bush is the Mother Fucker Worst President EVER! He is the DUMBESST MONROE!..

  • Yes he is, but remember that he is a mere puppet of the global elites who control things behind closed doors.

  • no doubt US is headed for depressio

  • vote for ron paul he will stop the fed res(aka)central corprate banking

  • you can not count on financial independance when the reason for such crashes is because our money has lost its value and as of yet is still not backed by anything such as precious metals.

  • Well, it looks like it is Canned Food and ShotGuns for the middle Class...I wonder when and if people will ever get tired of this? What will be the tipping point?

  • I don't think people ever care until it's too late. Even when that happens, they find a way to live on and their offspring get to repeat the cycle. Just prepare and protect yourself. It's all you can ask for really.

  • Ron Paul 2008. Restore sound money and the constitution.

  • @JackNeedles You'll get another chance, next year.

  • I have a strange feeling we might have GW Bush for 2008. This could be the 'tragedy'

that keeps him in office for as long as he wants of course. After all he's the one who engineered these dumb as fuck tax cuts to stimulate the ailing economy but in reality it's really stimulating pessimistic market sentiment. Better make sure you have enough food on hand because it's going to be a long tough ride. --peace

  • Oh house of cards metaphor Why must you always collapse...
