Absolutely beautiful. If i completely lose myself in this song, I know I will cry. This brings me a feeling of nostalgia and a bittersweetness of my memories.
There's a scene in the Tom Cruise Vietnam Movie, BORN ON THE 4TH OF JULY, that features this sad song too. He wanted to ask Kyra Sedgewick to the Prom, but instead he stays home, and gets his stuff packed to leave to go to the War. On Prom Night, he runs from his house to the school in the pouring rain. He walks into the Prom Dance soaking wet, and slow dances with her, to this song: MOON RIVER.
My favorite music is 1980's Rock and Heavy Metal, and yet, a classic mellow song like this can really get to you! It's SO sad and melancholy sounding, that it sneaks up on your emotions.
Breakfast at Tiffany's brought me here, such a beautiful song. It makes me feel calm and sane. Rest in peace Audrey Hepburn. And for many more years for Mr. Williams.
I came here because I was looking for people that can actually sing... no autotune crap and sex flash to win a following... I didn't even know the song was on that idiot sex and the city unrealistic show. thanks
when i was 6 years old i went with my grandparents to see andy williams sing at st. louis for a Christmas program. he invited the kids to come down on the stage to sing with him. my grandma wanted me to go, but i was too afraid.
No idea how or why, but he has become the perfect frame to the masterpiece and Godess on Earth that was Audrey...simply put, the man is an imortal, his voice and tribute will live as long as we endure on this Earth, Well done Sir!
i want to dedicate this song to Eleanor and Basil Khan, my grandparents, who danced to this song as there first dance as a married couple and then requested it be played at both of there funerals. simply beautiful.
it is just a classic song ,it has been done by such people as morrisey, louis armstrong, audrey and many others.i have at least ten different versions on ipod and all great.
Love this song such a classic! first heard it in breakfast @ tiffanys then in sex and the city and loved it both times hearing it it captured my heart!
I also heard this song on Sex In The City and it reminded me of my dad. When we were young he had a local band on television and played at the Cha cha club here in my town many years ago. I was about 11 yrs old. My dad had a beautiful voice and sang just like Frank Sinatra, well this was one song he would sing so well. It's a reminder every time I hear this song.. RIP Mom and Dad.
ive been listening to this song for near on 50 years, and each time it brings a tear in my eyes, it reminds me of a time long ago , it reminds me of my parents , who have now passed on , i love them and always will, as i love my son , his wife and every one that has touched me in many unforgettable ways
Andy Williams was born in 1927 and is still alive today. He is 83 years old. He will turn 84 this December (2011). Andy was his middle name. His real name is Howard Williams. He was born in Iowa. His nickname is "The Emperor Of Easy". He has 3 children. He still appears on television quite a bit. His last tv appearance was on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno", in 2010.
my mom really liked it. it is a beautiful song. but ..... the song to me, and i mean just listening to the melody, the song makes me feel like someone is leaving. you know? it sounds like the song would be played at the end of a movie. and two people are separating and going their seperate ways, and that's what it's always sounded like to me. a sad song. and i don't like it.
this is the best version ever sang by andy williams the sound quality is at par with high definition of today songs thank you omarproductions i play over and over again and i never fed up to hear it again
My absolute favorite song!!! It gives me goosebumps and tears because of its beauty. Those who are new to this kind of music should also check out My Cup Runneth Over by Ed Ames. It is also a first-class romantic song.
After 50 years, this song still gives me goosebumps! Andy Williams is one of my all-time favorite singers and this song is one shining example of his gifted voice. Lovely background instrumentation and singers add to the magic of this unforgettable ballad. It was a more simpler and innocent time then and he was married to lovely Claudine Longet, had a nice family, and did cherished Christmas shows that I always used to look forward to. I wish his personal life was as perfect as his lovely music.
My mom says, "I was born in 1938, and I never get tired of listening to that beautiful music!" I agree we have lost style and charm they had back then!
I dedicate this song to Myra Kraft, a loving wife, mother. She managed the Robert and Myra Kraft Family Foundation and was president of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, which contributed millions of dollars to charities in the United States and Israel. From 1995-2002 she was the first woman to chair the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. For the past two years she was chair of the board of directors of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
@helenh221991 Helen, I also wish you would have lived during this era of UNFORGETTABLE music, an era that will never be duplicated again! I was born in 1953 and began my love for rock and roll---and this type of lovely music---when my parents gave me a transistor radio for Christmas in 1964. That was the MOST INFLUENTIAL GIFT OF MY LIFE and cost only a couple of bucks but was priceless! Henry Mancini has a lovely version of this song, too, but Andy's is lovely in its own cherished way.
@m1kewithaone This song was in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and NOT in "April Love". That movie came out in 1957 and featured Pat Boone and Shirley Jones in lead roles. Pat had a BIG hit with "April Love" and that was one of his best songs, too. I just LOVE the music of Andy Williams and especially his version of "Moon River", though I also love Henry Mancini's version. They sure do not make music like this today which is quite sad.
@unclebone100 right, i knew april love was not in the breakfast a tiffany's movie, but i didn't really know about april love movie. i remember this song, moon river because my mom liked it. the song must have come out before the movie right? because i remember seeing breakfast at tiffany's with my sister somewhere around '64 or 5, but i remember hearing moon river somewhere around 1960. but hey, i was only five in '60 so i could be wrong.
I'm black and 50, when I was a kid around 3 to 5yrs old, my dad used to whistle this and sing the first few lines all the time. Since then, even though I listen to R & B, Jazz, and Soul, I still like this song. Love the vocals, and it brings back some happy memories when I was a child. I recall seeing Andy sing this on Ed Sullivan too. Thanks for posting.
My mom played this album when sho was doing the "heavy" housecleaning. This took her several hours, so we had the Andy Williams album (going from memory here - over 40 years ago) "Moon Riiver and other Favorites", along with "South Pacific" "Mary Poppins" "Sound of Music" and "The King and I" soundtracks. We hated it then, love it now.
Andy's version of this song is probably my favorite, with Danny Williams a close second.
To the 3 cretins who "dislike" this song: will you PLEASE for the love of God and all that is good and pure and right in this world NOT have any children? The earth need truth, nobility and beauty and you losers are obviously incapable of appreciating anything resembling these attributes. TY johnny, henry, and andy for making this world a better place.
Many have tried to replicate this song but it will always be Andy Williams signature song! And I remember my grandma used to play this when I was little, maybe 6 or 7 years old. It still reminds me of her and will always be a favorite of mine.
I wasn't even born yet when this was a hit. Lucky me, my older sisters had this record. This song still beats all crap you hear on the "talent" shows.
We had an intercom system in our house which was attached to an AM/FM radio. When my parents would relax or before going out or a party, they'd tune into to an easy listening station in San Antonio & invariably, this song would be played. I hear it & I can smell the Scotch they drank, party hors d'ourves.; the way the house smelled & felt. It had an energy all its own. I hear this song & get weepy. My parents thought they were prepping for a party. In reality, they were creating memories.
grew up on andy, johnny rivers, dean, frank, johhny mathis, "camelot", tony bennett AND the beatles, stones, jimi, doors, PPand M, motown....was i lucky or what???
"huckleberry friend" *The tiny size of the berries led to their frequent use as a way of referring to something small, often in an affectionate way - this may have been merely slang of the period for "I'm your best gun/man."
Was brought up listening to this most sunday mornings ,my step fathers favourite will always bring back happy and sad memories as was played at his funeral last month hope your listening Tom x

My parents thought they were prepping for a party. In reality, they were creating memories.

The best part of any episode of Sex and the City is "I Heart NY" when they're dancing to this.

"huckleberry friend" *The tiny size of the berries led to their frequent use as a way of referring to something small, often in an affectionate way - this may have been merely slang of the period for "I'm your best gun/man."
