On the whole, I'm not a avant fan of "indie" music. I listen to some, but not often.
The Decemberists have always been okay in my book, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Songs like this though...
They make me look forward to the future of the genre. It's a young genre, and this is a young song. In 10, maybe 15 years... if bands like this are still kicking, they're going to be making the kind of music we haven't seen the likes of in a very long time. It's more than a great song, it's a promise.
I forgot to add, chris bathgate - cinder...andrew bird - the water jet cilice. I think there are diff versions for it. the one I heard used the ukulele and had violins..it blew me. such great indie bands..
4:00-4:46 is the greatest thing I've ever heard. And I'm not just say that. It's legitimately the best bit of music I've heard in my life. It's heaven.
@cedarnouns Also the road, and the wine which he sings about are made by... wait for it... THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN CALIFORNIA! So not only are you overreacting, but you're just plain wrong.

Tracked down that Guy Maddin movie. Way weird, but a great line and fits well in this song

I've heard of ghosts,
Good ghosts who wander the battlefield at night,
Guiding soldiers out of danger.
You can see their omens everywhere,
Omens warning of stray bullets and lurking enemies.
If I were such a ghost,
I would stay so close to you
You could feel my breath on your cheek.
