  • I have only just come across Deepak Chopra. I don't know if his courses rip people off or not, or if it's a massive organisation run by unscrupulous people; surely though, there these are videos which anyone can watch, for nothing. If people who can afford it want to take a course well that's fine, but the rest of us can benefit a lot from watching the videos.

  • I love to meditate so I enjoy these videos but I would like to know why he says dont lie down instead sit up....why? I feel much more relaxed lying down. why cross my legs? why? why do I say anything at all? why I AM? The dead sea scrolls say that we should be meditating on what we are to become. But how do we do this when we arent to meditate on the future? just would love to know if all these things we should do is another form of religious traditions which says if u dont do it this way....

  • @Travelingboutique there is highly chance that you will go sleep than meditate. Laying down is not most preferred way of position unless you are doing casually before go bed or feeling shy as other waiting you.

  • @Travelingboutique take the best of what works for you and make it your own. if this much structure bothers you.... go your own way. Many people fall asleep lying down. if you don't then great. The idea of I AM is to focus on a useful thing as I understand it. Do I Am one day and meditate on your future the next, RElax.

  • I always enjoy Dr Chopra's videos. Its always enlightening! I find it a better way to explore the true potential and hidden secrets of Vedic wisdom... Keep up the good work Deepak !!!

  • I just learned a lot from these videos. He is great. I love his books as well. I just figure that mone will come when it does.

  • Mr. Deepak, I love all your teachings. Thank you! Great mind. Love, peace and Light.

  • i think that people who have met Deepak's books, video clips, and other means, brought to themselves the opportunity. people like me in the low class have the same share of wisdom by the way we open ourselves to whatever deepak's teachings are, big or small. The issue on how expensive his courses are is of no issue at all...

  • @mountfish

it's probably best to study the different schools of thought before listening to anyone's "methods." People who teach that meditation has a "method" often mean that meditation has the ability to generate them lots of cash if they say they have the right or easier or best technique.

I'm very very suspicious of this man. As a matter of fact I will tell you that he is a charlatan for the most part and the fact that one charges for this information is considered sacrilege to most.

  • thank you songcycle. :) you see, in meditation, i have learned that "studying" is the very oposite of it. and i disregard whoever / what the "qualification of the person is, what I hear is more important -so long as i find its truth in me. sometimes i don't even find all chopra's teaching as my truth. but in most cases, i did (ive read his books in the past). nevertheless, i thank u for this sharing.

  • correct me if im wrong but isn't this the same as transcendental meditation

  • Medititation (Dhayana) is part of yoga. TM is more of a trade mark( TM ! ) of Maharishi Mahesh yogi method of the same. Similar.

  • Thank you, Dr. Chopra. Your books have changed my life. :)

  • Agree with u.

Funny every time I watched him on the tv ( CNN 3 times ), he stole the whole show with his presence while other closed minded theologians seemed to have wet in their pants.

There r group of ppl trying to stop us not find self-healing methods.

  • I just love this guy! his voice his so warm & calming its practicly meditation on its own. need to find the time to read one of his books...

  • Hopefully, mediation helps people free of sex, drug, alcohol, tobacco, and gambling addictions.

  • I am a huge fan of Dr. Chopra and own all his books and listen to him weekly on the radio. I do however have one problem that disturbs me greatly. I have written to him several times to ask if his courses are so expensive does his foundation make an allowance for the poor to participate? All letters have been ignored. This is very disappointing. It is fine to make money on his gift but he should spread the wealth by helping the poor. I don't believe he does this based on the lack of response.

  • if the courses are less expensive, imagine 1000s of people are going to the seminar course, he hasn't have the time...

besides, what he teach in the courses, are in the books he wrote, maybe a little tip here and there which are not in the books

Besides, if you aren't able to afford it yet, maybe it is something you better do first

and he got many letters i assume, just have to manage his time more wisely

(that's my assumption of the reasons)

  • I am not speaking of myself. I have attended his seminars and sat as close to him as I am too my computer right now. I think a certain number of seats should be set aside for the less fortunate. Not everyone has computers, internet or Sirius radio. Also, I did not expect him to personally answer my letters. That is what he has staff for. I took the silence to mean that they did not want to address the subject. That is what disappointed me. That is what caused me to lose some faith in the person.

  • @Italtopcop how about you learn not from Deepak, but from where he himself has understood about meditation and spirituality.

    Ancient Eastern Religions.

  • @CreamyBrown07 I believe you missed my entire point....your answer does not address the statement I made. Try again as I would like very much to have a dialog with you on this subject. I did not question his teachings.....like you I accept the teachings but question the teacher. Are we not allowed to do that?

  • @Italtopcop

Deepak is not the originator of the ideas and philosophies he teaches. Deepak reiterates philosophies he's learnt from Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, and Sufism. He's combined his understanding of medical sciences and other sciences like Quantum physics. Do your research about meditation both from scholarly and primary sources (Practitioners of meditation and these philosophies).

  • @CreamyBrown07 With all do respect Creamy Brown I understand that completely. I am not criticizing the message as much as the messenger. The fact that he is apparently unwilling to allow a small percentage of seating space to the poor is the entire issue. That is what I would like addressed in this dialog. Where one gets their spiritual education and understanding is completely up to them. I believe everyone is exactly where they should be.

  • @Italtopcop that is why the community gets all of his stuff for free ;)

  • @celpabedn What community are you speaking of? Your community? The Internet Community or the huge community of the poor who don't have access to computers and books and video tapes as you and I do. Some people are so blind they cannot see their finger touch their nose.

  • He is not the only one to teach meditation, there are Gurus you and i have not seen and are on a bigger level of self realization and their students don't need internet to access to their wisdom, let me clarify something to you, Chopra did not reach self realization or nirvikalpa samadhi. he is just a teacher for the people who need a more scientific approach to meditation and a Phd in front of a name to believe in what a person has to say!

  • @celpabedn We are on the same page here. Actually I don't see how our opinions differ. Your original statement to me "that is why the community gets all of his stuff for free" did not address the point I was making. I simply said that I did not understand why he would not offer a few open slots in his seminars to the poor who cannot afford them. If he is the man he portrays himself as, would it hurt him? The poor as you know are in search of enlightenment like anyone else.

  • @celpabedn Whether or not Dr. Chopra has attained self realization or nirvikalpa samadhi is not for me to say, nor is it my concern. Again I believe yet another person has missed the point. Perhaps that is my fault and i have not made myself clear. I am not criticizing the message or questioning where Dr. Chopra is in his personal spiritual evolution.

  • @Italtopcop Let it go, he wanted fame and money, he is not the most you can get from teachers, look around stop being so narrow minded, the masses who are poor and uneducated still have one thing and that is hope and perseverance to their aid.

Plus they do not have so much to choose from which is good unlike us who are bombarded with spiritual know how Gurus on a daily basis. Poor is not poor just with money, its means poor of seeing the path, rich have too much to choose for so the choose none!

  • @celpabedn I agree with your entire first sentence with exception of being narrow minded. All I did was make an observation and voice an opinion about two years ago and still to this day the only reason I give it any thought at all is because folks like you read it and write to me. Otherwise I have put it long out of my thoughts. I also agree with your second sentence. So again we seem to see eye to eye with the exception of calling me narrow minded. You do not know me well enough to say that.

  • @Italtopcop I was not trying to insult you but only to point out you do strike meas one who is narrow minded in his approach to get knowledge, i did not insult your IQ or hunger merely pointed out, that you are banging at the same door, not seeing there are hundreds left unopened and needing no invites. Usually the best thing are free and the teachers who wish humanity an elevation in awareness are not into mainstream media. Look under the mud, jewels stay hidden...

  • @celpabedn Thank you. This raises two questions. What might you see as my "approach" and what is the "same door" you are referring to? You have formed an opinion from one comment that I made regarding Chopra's policy of excluding the poor from his seminars. Any following statements were made in response to comments from other readers. I believe there are many ways to enlightenment, and no matter what the road, the destination remains the same. An interesting observation though from one so young

  • @Italtopcop

qouote''I am a huge fan of Dr. Chopra and own all his books and listen to him weekly on the radio,All letters have been ignored.'' If THIS is not knocking at the same door i don't know what is? Let it go,you found out he sells the books for the less fortunate and lectures for the ones who can afford his fees. You are an American, land of money making, yet u pray for a more social approach...move to India :) ok just kidding..surely in a vicinity there is a yoga center?

  • @celpabedn True, at the time I was a huge fan of his but that doesn't mean I "knock" on one door. I have and still do explore many different paths. When you are my age you will be able to say the same thing. You still have much to experience. I spent thirty years working with the poor so I am perhaps more sensitive to their needs than most. As far as letting it go, I had done just that until you brought it up again. :-) Now I am going to my room to book my ticket. LOL

  • @celpabedn For some reason I did not receive this message and only saw it because I came to answer a question asked by someone else. The statement "he sells the books for the less fortunate" makes no sense at all. The "less fortunate" can't afford food let alone $32.00 or so for Dr. Chopra's books. Why should I not expect a more social approach from a great spiritual leader? Did Christ ever charge for his message? If I am not mistaken all his lectures were free. Just saying.

  • @Italtopcop

    Hello!Great point there.

But, i have two questions for you:

    1. Should he lower the prices because society expects him too?

    Or

    2. Because he wishes to do it?

  • @TheXixi88 Thanks for you note, I would be happy to answer it. Certainly he should not lower his prices for anyone and certainly not because society expects it. I don't believe Dr. Chopra should lower his prices at all. I think the people who can afford it should pay the going rate. I think it would be NICE on his part as a spiritual leader to open some slots to those who cannot afford it at all but would like to attend. As a spiritual leader this would be the right thing to do. Just saying.

  • @Italtopcop I have a problem with the high cost too, same with TM. I am no affiliate and when do research on TM I ran across NSR, Natural Stress Relief which is very similar and inexpensive.

  • @danielsaun1 Thanks for the information..I will take a look at it.

  • @FrancoJason2447 Sure like I said I am not trying to push anything. In fact, I just looked at mindfulness meditation and its pretty awesome too, no mantra even. Just meditate its great for the mind and body.

  • @danielsaun1 Thank you very much for the information. Always appreciated Daniel.

    Franco

  • I'm pleased that Deeoak brought it back to Pure Awareness, the Self. Bravo!
