We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. Politicians love visible beneficiaries & invisible victims !
There is no such thing as a good tax. Politicians are leaches, mostly !
Three groups spend other people's money: children, thieves, politicians. All three need supervision.
if its the BRITT family they were given the land by the government in the 1890s through a land grant.....not sure why free land from the government should go untaxed for infinity....and if it was the MOISE FAMILY the made the money for that land in the "money lending business" ....those are the only 2 families in NM that own 50k acres....
@centervilletn If they own private property (bought or given) why should they have to pay a tax on the simple ownership of that - you have complete ignored Dave's comments in your own comment. What is wrong with the money lending business? I give someone $100, they pay me back $100 + interest as mutually agreed for the benefit of borrowing money. It's equal to renting a car.
ramsy is a nice guy but reality is estate taxes wont effect 95 % of us...there are more important issues right now...like a bankrupt nation on the brink of collapse....50k acres is a state! not an estate!
President Bush is the first President to cut taxes on the rich during wartime, When Dave says" to pay for your little plan" hes probably picking on basic government spending, but the fact is we are paying a lot for Bush's plan to invade countries and not pay for it. I think estate taxes are totally fair.He keeps going on about "your" this and "your" that, Why don't we say these are our children, and they won't fight in : your wars. Seems only militarism gets them seeing any collective responsibi
HEY DAVE....PERMANENT INSURANCE AND A PROPER FINANCIAL PLAN WITH AN ESTATE PLANNER COULD HAVE AVOIDED THAT ENTIRE PROBLEM!
Oh, but you don't believe in permanent life insurance, do you? Hmmm....I guess your advice isn't specific enough, then is it? Yeah it's a shitty situation but you have to play the hand your dealt.
Why don't you be an actual financial planner sometime and instead of bitching about it, tell your clients how to fix it.
My heart aches for the man who inherited 50,000 acres without working for it. At $1000/ac that is $50 mil. with 55% estate taxes he and any of his whining siblings can try to make due on $22.5 mil. Maybe get a studio apartment in the bad part of town or something.
Wow name calling... Was "get the fuck outta here" an order or something? No one was talking to you so why don't you jack off over a pic of Dale Jr. or something. I am adept at ad hominem as well. The man is dead and his kids get what they worked for without estate taxes. And yes it IS ok for the congress of the United States to pass laws governing the citizenry.
The money/property is already taxed money, so why tax it again?
wait...you are liberal, don't want your answers...Congress has the power of uniform taxation...not progressive and not as they see fit. Read the Enumerated Powers....and before you bring in the 16th Amendment, this was ruled by the Supreme Court to give Congress "No new powers of taxation"...our TAX system is flawed and illegal...it is pure THEFT...PERIOD.
There should be reform to account for individual situations, but the idea is to prevent aristocratic concentrations of wealth that are a harm to a democratic republic.
In other words unproductive heirs that live off the wealth and become social parasites themselves.
I think that is American.
The cited example by Dave deserves special treatment......but what about the Paris Hilton's of the world?
Hey, you have to do what you gotta do, right? Nevermind whether its American or not...it just is. If Dave were halfway good at his job he could have given those people some advice to avoid those taxes, right? I think so.

I guess "Pop's" 30 Yr Term expired. What if he would have had a Second To Die policy to pay those taxes?
