what season is this? i just bought the box set and i'm on season 2 and doug just saved the kid and got a new job, how far away am I from this episode?
That scene with Carol and doug is heartbreaking!! I mean seriously couldn't he have found another job in Chicago!! Lol!! But it's ok cos they still ended up together in the end!
They do now. Shortly after Doug left, we learned that Carol was pregnant. The theme during entire next season was how Carol dealt with being a single mother of twin girls and trying to move on while Doug was in Washington. Near the end of the season, with her County career not going well (bitch Weaver!), Carol realizes that she needs to be with Doug, so she goes out there and it's Happily Ever After for them.
I know, this is the best moment in tv history, i cry everytime i watch it too, imagine saying good bye to your boyfriend george clooney, that would be so painful, i just think how beautiful is his face and imagine letting it go :(
Every time I see this scene between Carol and Doug, I cry. I'll watch it over and over for at least 30 minutes watching how Carol just breaks down and how Doug is internally upset with himself and what he must do. An Emmy-winning scene if ever there was one. I don't want to say that this was the "Jump The Shark" point for ER, but it'd never be the same.
"Doug... I don't want to wake up alone tomorrow." My God, what a line.
why couldn't they stay together? Seriously, I don't know why not?

I wish Doug & Mark reunited too. They were the original friendship of the show. Doug should've at least been at his funeral...

"I don't want to wake up alone tomorrow!"
Then you should have married him the season before instead of kissing the paramedic........

I cried so much when he left and he had to leave because everyone was so sick of him and he was going to have a better new start in another city.

See the "ER - Carol and Doug Reunite" video or similar. Clooney makes a cameo as Doug at the end of Carol's final episode.

the first of the six to leave. i know susan left first, but doug's leaving seemed to be when the shift in the show's casting really began.
not to mention susan at least came back.
