  • Now HE is a real elder, an old man with wisdom, kindness and life experience.

I have met some old idiots who have done nothing with their lifes spotung crap and demanding elder-like respect.

  • got a problem. I saved seeds from a butternut squash & they got moldy.

I seeded squash, rinsed, put on towl, applied paper towl top & lightly pressed. let sit about an hour, put them in a clean empty vitamin container, shut tiet. Did I not let set out/dry enough? or should seeds never be stored in a 100% air tiet container?

  • @assman255 it sounds like the seeds still had enough moisture in them evaporate and then condense inside the bottle. This happens more if these is a big difference in the tempurture of the storage container. Try letting the seeds dry a little more and then store them in the dark, cool and relatively little temp variation to cut down on the condensed water which is the environment mold thrives.

  • @timedonkey condenced water? I am let some squash seeds dry more(about full day) still some started to mold after I placed them in a container that I left lid off of. I sat the ones that didn't mold out on flat surface. How many days does it take before I can put in air tiet container?

  • make sure monsanto doesnt own your ass.

  • lol he straight up took the water hose, YOU AINT DOIN IT RIGHT

  • This was a fantastic lesson...Thanks so much. We all need to be aware of what it takes to be self sufficient and self reliant, and kind to our Neighbors.

  • I wanna smoke a Gandalf pipe with this guy

  • Loved your video and especially your message at the end!

  • Sweet video. :)

  • Been there done that. Great video for younger generations. And yeah that is the only way to make a food that you know it is not genetically modified or there is no chemicals in it.... so far...

  • What wonderful knowledge to have...and to share. Thank you!

  • Yes sir! Pass it down, pass it around. -3

  • Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!

  • No, strawberries do not need the fermenting process. Select very ripe berries and squish them up and use a fine strainer to separate the hard little seeds from the pulp. Lay out on a paper towel to dry.

  • would this method work with other fruits. say strawberries?

  • @richardsebreower it is very hard to grow strawberries from seed, your best bet would be if you have a friend that already has some would be to ask if you could get some of the runners from their plants and start your own off of the runners

  • @tappakeggaday1 I have found it not only difficult to grow strawberries from seed but almost imposible. I was wondering if the process for tomotatoes might make it more reasonable for strawberries. I have strawberries and I do plant the runners, but I was hopping to get some from strawberrie seeds its so convienent to plant or share seeds, runners require a liitle more. thans

  • @richardsebreower from most strawberry sites I have seen,it's those runners you want,I know their or can be a bit more of a pain but it's the way they propagate.think of it kind of like what mushrooms( mycelium) do below ground strawberries do above it. some things are hard wired this way.I have read it is possible to grow strawberries from seed.just google growing strawberries from seed and maybe you can find something that might help you out

  • very wise words, im growing my own tomatoes, im only 16 but im a strong believer in recycling and growing my own food. thank you for the tips

  • That is such a great idea mate!! Will try it with my two kids:-) Thanks 4 that.

  • that beard is some serious dedication

  • YUM! I want one of those tomatoes!! :)

  • @JadeDragon814 DO SOMETHING THEN!spread organic heirloom food seed far and wide, its called"johnny appleseed economics"or"gorrila gardens",spread more organic food. wake up everyone,do your part!!?IF YOU ARE angry, get seed and make a organic revolution your way.SPREAD THE ORGANIC SEED EVERYWHERE TELL OTHERS! INCREASE THE FOOD SUPPLY RIGHT NOW WHILE WE GOT TIME!! GROW VERTICAL GARDENS IF YOU DONT HAVE THE SPACE! START NOW!SOLAR ENERGY, HAM RADIO, WATER!

tell 10 OTHER PEOPLE RIGHT NOW!

  • @boxa888 I already am. I was only complementing this guys beautiful tomatoes. I have my seeds and I'm planting them in april. We will be growing all our own food. I do completely agree with what you're saying though..

  • Cool video and fun to watch, I remember trying to do this with various vegetables in out garden, had an air dryer I used for a lot of these.

  • Wonderful video

  • all ask is to keep it simple harmany and make wise choices in my garden of life lol also to take only what is needed

  • I just throw my old ones in the back yard and the neighbors yard, works fine.

  • very cool thank you for the information this will save me alot of money next year and i can buy a tomato from the store and do the same thing this is great i wish my parents taught me this as a child i would have saved alote of money over the years

    the cheap guy

  • I like the point that you made about individual sovereignty!

    How Right you are

    well done!

  • how right you are! I lioke what you said about individual sovereignty. well done!

  • Excellent information, and also heartwarming wisdom. As a society we have divorced ourselves from our foodchain, and are now paying the consequences for doing so. Perhaps we should change the ancient proverb to : " Give a man a vegetable and he eats for a day. Teach a man how to save seeds and garden, and he eats for a lifetime."

    Thanks Cliff!

  • Love your video. Love what you say. I hate that you can't find a good tomato anywhere. Store bought tomatoes have no flavor at all. I guess you just have to grow your own. Thanks for the wonderful video.

  • Perfect demonstration, Clifton. Thanks to all of you, especially the young man. Nice beard, BTW! :) Peace brother

  • Thankyou...

    Kia kaha, Aroha...

  • How do you make sure you're not getting terminator gene seeds?

  • @katards Terminator seeds prevent the plant from producing viable seeds and are an abomination to nature with unknown potential to sterilize other like cultivars thru cross pollination. The best protection is to start with open pollinated heirloom seeds and save your own. We test seeds to determine germination rates.

  • Love this...thank you. Have just this past year started growing my own tomatoes here in FL...am enjoying our second crop right now and soon it will be too hot and rainy for the plants to grow...but come late September, will want to grow more plants from the seeds we have now. Wonderful!

  • your a beautiful peraon, thank you for sharing your wisdom.

  • Awsome Thankyou for posting!!

  • how long can they last?

  • Keep the dried seeds in a cool, dry place and they will remain viable for years. Some seeds have been germinated after thousands of years.

  • gmo will kill your seeds soon all your seeds are belong to us

  • all your base are belong to us!

  • He's a good man!

  • I looked at the small video thumnail on youtube and came here because i thought this was Gandalf :-)

    But anyway. Fuck Monsanto!

  • @llothar68 – Yes, you are correct. I hope everyone in the USA/World learns of Monsanto/Corporate controlled US government. Their evil corporate money logic. It’s killing more then people realize. Good for politicians and their careers.

  • Hi I just got the seeds I bought from bepreparednow. net They were only $44.99 with free shipping. It has 27 varieties of NON hybrid seeds and it is sealed in a Mylar Bag. It was the best deal I found on the Internet and the variety is great.

  • thanks for the info...i have already bought some survival seeds last year in a time capsule, but i feel strongly that i need more, to go with my seeds form our organic garden this last summer...27 varieties is a good amount...

  • Thank you. I was wondering how you harvest things lilke carrot seeds or ratishes? things of that sort. i have seen many most of them but these i am still confused

  • The radishes will push up a beautiful tall stalk with lots of flowers that will form seed pods. Collect them when dry. The carrots take two years to produce seed so you will have to let them grow and go dormant for the winter then the next season they will seed with wild looking flowers, collect as they dry ...

  • greatly appreicate that information. can't wait to start my garden next year.. :)

  • The message in the end of this video really means a lot. Thank you making this video!

  • Johnnys Select

    Seed Savers

    Seeds of Change

    There are plenty more.

They all have non GMO seeds.

Look for Heirloom or Organic those are also non GMO.

  • First I would like to say . Thank you so much for your response to my qu estion on garlic seeds &how to plant them. The idea just came into my head to learn about savings seeds to plant while there is time left to do so because of GMO seeds that are coming on the market and heirlooms may be unavailable. Is it possible to do videos on items that to me have no seeds to be found on them like leafy greens, example kale collard greens cabbage and lettuce?

  • Yes, it is possible, we could follow the entire life cycle of various cultivars over an entire season.

The leafy greens you mentioned will go to seed if they are allowed to grow long enough. They will push up a tall, over 3 foot high shoots that will bloom and then turn into seed pods. The plant will die and the seeds pods will dry up, inside will be thousands of seeds .

    from one, many

  • Question Calicarbon: are all seeds saved the same way. I want to also save garlic seeds how do I do that .I happen to see you this will be totaly new for me.

  • There are differences depending on the life cycle of the cultivar. Garlic is grown using the individual cloves as seeds. Plant them pointy side up in well drained beds. Each clove will grow into an entire bulb with up to 8 cloves. When the leaves turn color and die it is time to harvest the bulbs. Garlic is a wonder and powerful plant for the kitchen and it is used to make a spray to control fungus and pests on your other vegetalble friends. You have picked a noble and useful friend in Garlic

  • Question: I try to save cherry seeds after eating them by placing them on a paper towel to dry but they seem to become taken over by mold/fungus. I get concerned that the mold/fungus would destroy the seeds. Should I handle the cherry seeds like tomatoe seeds and allow them to ferment for 2 days ?

  • Yes, try the fermenting for 5 days and wash very well, rinse and then rinse again. Then let them dry, they may stick together a like, separate them and let dry. The fermenting consumes the fleshly coating which is what the mold and fungus are looking for .....

  • QUESTION: When I try to save cherry seeds after eating them and placing them on a paper towl, they seem to develop a fair amount of mold/fungus on them. I then become concerned that the fungus/mold is going to destroy/rot the seed. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to save/dry the seed to prevent the mold/fungus? Should I use that strategy of letting them sit in a glass draw with water allow them to ferment for 5 days ?

  • Please, may I use your video in a seed saving presentation I am preparing?

  • awesome...

mother nature taught you that you are magic ( because you are )

    wonderful !!

  • This is a beautiful, inspiring and very educational video.

Clifton is also a joy to watch. The way he looks, talks and interacts with his children is marvelous.

Thank you very much for creating this video and good luck spreading the message.

  • I really like this video I have never posted on one b4 but this man has inspired me to save seeds more than ever b4 thank you

  • Bok Choy is a good plant to start saving seeds. Just let it keep growing and it will 'bolt', a term that means it will sprout some stalks with little flowers, going to seed, the flowers dry and little seed pods quickly develop. When the stalks and pods dry out you can collect them, crush them and gather the little black, round seeds. Store in a cool, dry place

  • Thanks for the great vid. Question to everyone, do you have any tips on saving chinese bok choy seeds? This is my first time. Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible to reuse your seeds right away? or do you need to wait months?

  • Yes, you can plant right away or store the seeds in a cool, dark and dry place. The tomato seeds will keep for years depending on how well we take care of them .

  • Thanks for the good video friend.

  • This is Awesome.

I hope you do not mind...

I posted this to my Free Seed Exchange Group.

    I will do this!

    PEACE

  • great :)

  • Thanks

  • @createrainbowz don't get caught by Monsanto, they are heartless.

  • I love this! You just taught me at age 38, and I will now teach my kids to do this too! Thank you.

  • I weep for my nation that there are so few people left that really understand such wisdom. I grew up doing this and still garden today because of the spirit "planted" in me by my Grandfather. Thank you for putting out this video.

  • I love it. Clifton is so engaging. Nice tempo and feel to the piece too, plus I dig the catchy music.

  • Awesome Video Thankyou

  • Great. I've just been trying to do this very thing, only in the Arabian desert, using seeds from from tomatoes purchased in my local supermarket. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks and please tell us how it goes.

  • @calicarbon some seeds have been radiated and wont grow..or the fruit or veggie. <

  • Nice work on the video, nice flow, good tunes. Rachael you look so thin, Gus you look so cute (and grown up) and Cliff you look so mystical. Nice work Ruben.

    we miss you all

    T&L

  • Thank you.
