Some of the places where I fish are reservoirs, and they are deep and dangerous! I'll use a life jacket when ice fishing in those places. Congrats on that big fish!

The water here is so clear we have to use smaller line weights. Florida water is murky by comparison. The short pole is used mostly because we often fish in a little shack or shelter which isn't large enough for any of my longer rods. As far as the fish feeling pain? Honestly I don't really care. If the fish bit me It certainly wouldn't be concerned.
