Thank you Xerock. I accidentally clicked on your name and was brought to your website. I don't mean to overstep but I can't help but wonder why on earth you even bother engaging these people in conversations about subjects that are so explosive? People said some horrible things to you. Don't you feel it's pointless to even attempt to make people like that see and understand your point of view?
Thanks, justmomagain. It's amazing how understanding and forgiving most people are on this comment page. I actually thought "dumb bitch" was pretty accurate in response to my awful answer. I totally understand where that person was coming from. I respect all answers and reactions to my answer. Even the ones that sting a little more than others. Every answer and reaction is valid and deserves to be heard. Take care all....Love, Didi
VH1 is going to have to put out " I love the 70s - Volume 3 " to cover game shows and special tv shows like Kasey Kasem's Top 40, Wide World of Sports, Big Blue Marble, etc. There was just to many things going on in the 70s to cover with volume 1 and Volume 2.
King Kong was thrown out of the baseball stadium because when they told him it was time for the seventh inning stretch, Kong went out and stretched the BANANA.
1. What drug was McLean on? 2. I think there's no demonstrable evidence that Head Start is effective (nonetheless I support it). 3. Who in the name of God is Brett Sommers, other than a game show panelist?
@trlwd I realize it's been said before, but seriously... no need for apologies. I thought you were just delightful and an entertaining member of the show.
For what it's worth, I hope whatever 'bad memories' you have of the show are lessened from all of us who clearly empathize (and who couldn't after reading your post?)
I was going to say what a shame if this caused/added to your exit from show business, but as long as you're happy right now that's what matters. You did fine.
Isn't it amazing how the internet allows for the absence of common decency and decorum by allowing cowards like you to call names from behind the anonymity of a computer. And I don't say "amazing" in a good way.
@narusaku5878 sometimes I wonder how much copying was going on, lol. That being said it could also just be a case of great minds think alike. And I do think both Betty & Richard were great players. :)
wow i love this show i wish i was alive to be on it ;D, Betty whitee <33 she's such a good person & Brett is hilarious I don't really like dawson very much he's a pig
This is Didi Carr 31 years after the airing of this show. I just heard about it being on YouTube and watched it in absolute horror! Somehow I thought "Perverted" in my mind instead of "Kinky" and then I tried to think of the most perverted thing I could imagine. Next thing I knew that stupid, offensive answer just blurted out of me. I was so terrible at the game (obviously) and very very nervous! I'd give anything to be able to take that horrific answer back! I humbly apologize to you all.
Not nearly as bad as some of the answers we've seen on this show! You did a great job anyway. Always thinking about the contestants being the nervous ones unable to think of answers, but the panel ran into that very same problem more often than not.
Thank you so much "poetnk". You have no idea how much I appreciate what you said. Yes, I was as nervous as can be believe it or not. I actually wasn't too keen on doing the show at all but my agent thought it would be good publicity. Now, that was publicity I could have lived without! Talk about "OPEN MOUTH, INSERT FOOT!" It wasn't long after that I got out of show biz altogether, became a mom and my beautiful baby girl is turning 30 this month! Now SHE'D be great at the Match Game!
Could you tell us more about Match Game's workings when you were doing it? I'm an actor myself and wish so badly sometimes I would've been born in the 60's or 50's so I could've come on Match Game. What was it like backstage? What was your career like? How about our beloved panelists?
To Estupido7490, Thank you for your comments. I didn't think I was so beautiful back then, but I do appreciate the compliment. My daughter is much more beautiful for sure! I don't remember too much about backstage at the show other than they had a gorgeous fruit basket filled with everything imaginable in my dressing room when I got to the set. It was so sweet of them. Maclean Stevenson came in to say hello and welcome me and then Richard Dawson invited me to play backgammon with him.
Didi, I just want to thank you for allowing your episodes to air. Some celebrities, like Valerie Bertinelli, Adam Arkin, and Anitra Ford, didn't clear their appearances which means we can't see them on GSN. Again thank you!
@fwbh Hi! I didn't even know that you could clear or not clear your appearance on GSN. But either way I wouldn't have objected (even with that stupid answer I gave which is so embarrassing to me even now, thirty two years later!) I think it's a wonderful window into the past. Many of the celebs are gone already. And can you believe how Betty White has endured and is still one of the funniest ladies in show biz? Have you seen the Match episode where Kirsty Alley was a contestant? That was a trip!
Oh yes I have. That was great to see her as a contestant. Have you seen the Jenny Jones and Brianne Leary episodes where she was a contestant? Those were great as well. If you'd like, I can post some others for you as I have all the episodes for the most part of Match Game. There was another week you appeared with Bill Anderson BS CNR RD and MW. You seemed a bit more nervous that week, but it was fun to see Gene's reaction for the new kid on the block! HAHA. Great to hear from you! Nick
Hi Nick, Well, to tell you the truth, other than the piece of the episode someone posted here where I'm giving that totally brainless answer I've never seen myself on any of the match games...ever! Can you believe it? I'd love to see some of the ones I was on That would be a real kick! Watching myself from those days feels like I'm watching another person altogether. What a trip!
I have a treat for you. I'm going to go find your first episode of the week. I have to transfer it to DVD, so look for it tomorrow. This is so awesome to talk with a person who got the chance to be on Match Game. I'm truly honored!
Nick, did you get my replies from yesterday? I'm going out of town for awhile, be back in mid Feb but wanted to make sure to thank you for downloading that first episode and when I wrote to you it didn't say that it sent so I came here to send you my thanks. Didi
@trlwd First of all I think it is completely awesome that you posted here. I love Match Game and it's great actually hearing about your experience on the panel. Now that answer might have been a little stupid but giving stupid answers is just part of the fun of Match Game. Everyone has done it, including the regular panelists who had way more experience than you. So don't be embarrassed, I had a lot of fun watching your episode. :)
@trlwd aw you poor thing! We ALL say stupid things, you just did it on tv. :) You are beautiful by the way and I am glad you are having a happy life!!!
binsk Thank you for your kind words. I think you're right. We all say stupid things every so often in life. And you're absolutely right...I said something really stupid in front of millions of people on tv!!!!!!!!!!! And who knows how many more people will see that episode now that it's on youtube. So I get to keep on being stupid for all the world to see..... FOREVER!!!
@trlwd I've probably seen every Match Game there ever was, and I can assure you that you never said a stupid thing on that show, EVER. Your presence on the show was PERFECT. That's just the way it is -- so deal with it! :o) (It's a shame you can't appreciate yourself all these years later -- you were a delightful, funny, bright, humble, genuine breath of fresh air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
@mmdillons Thanks! How sweet are you! So many people here have been very kind to try to make me feel better about what I said. I really appreciate that!
@trlwd No need to apologize! It's a GAME show -- less-than-perfect answers were what made it interesting!!! Can you imagine if everyone gave great answers all the time? Nobody would watch!!! PS You that you were superb on Matchgame; you should be beaming with pride, and DEFINITELY not HORRIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@trlwd Didi, I think for 1978 that was a plenty kinky answer, under the circumstances. I'm sorry you didn't get any matches. There's an old saying about television: "That's Hollywood". Thanks for being part of our memories. :)

I don't think one would get away with "children" as an answer today where everyone is now going apeshit about sex offenders.
Yeah, I thought of "field" too.

It's weird...Richard CAN be funny when he wants to be. I guess as long as he doesn't smile it's okay be funny.

Great video, Match Game is one of the best game shows
ever. Also, trust me Richard Dawson & Betty White don't
need to copy any answers, they're 2 of the great game
players of all time.
