It is quite likely that this door is locked. It may have a lock that disengages by pulling the inside handle, while you would need a key to open it from the outside. There are locks that work that way.
1 it's not a lock it's just a door opener and 2 even if it was a lock the main cord to the key pad put that off connect a code scanner and your in i'm working on a project of my own i'm just down to my blueprints right now but should be in some top system.
and advice put the key hole on the inside and put the key in there and make it so when the handle goes down it unlocks and lock when it goes back up
Your scanner would have to interface with this system, with all those wires it is probably just a simple scanning matrix though.
It may have routines to prevent scanning, perhaps it would wait a little before allowing another code, it may lock down after a few attempts, it may reject codes entered too fast. Even without such, you would be lucky to get in more than two codes a second.
In a dorm building it is probably illegal with room door locks that require keys to open from inside...
ISP wire is to long....

fun :)
for real security you should put the micro inside the door :) .
or use 2 micros . one on the display/keypad side . and then have it send a discrete code to the second micro which operates the servo .
otherwise i'm getting in ur place like a ninja by throwing some powa at your servo wires :D

Looks to me like the thing outside is just for the display and keypad, the controller for the opener seems to be on the breadboard inside the room.
