FYI, I don't know where you get your information about the elderly in the US, but it's bogus faulty and really you need to read research this issue. Not all seniors in the US have fun or money when they retire. Many are women alone living in dire poverty, unable to barely survive keep the heat on. I guess you over looked this, and this is more than likely the majority of elderly in the US, Program cuts across the board forces then too in nursing homes to die. There are volunteer programs here,

Strange about some of the off comments. I recall growing up in America, my great grand mothers lived with one of their children. I remember having 3 of them when i was young, The last pasted when i was 12, I went on to having my first father in law live with me and my daughters, after he had a stroke, needing the care. Now have my new wife's parents and a sister living with me. The family side of care, love, contact, etc at home, is something care facilities can not get a person.

2. Nursing homes are depressing places (for all involved). Is it possible to offer "assisted living" facillities? That provide housekeeping and food preparation for those who are not ill enough to live in a "skilled nursing" facility?

There is a program the same as this already in use in my country Australia, some of the older people cannot afford to pay for bills and food so some people "adopt" them and help them out with food and jobs that might need to be done around the house. I think its a great idea it makes the public stronger and united and helps people that are often forgotten (seniors), i am happy to see Russia doing this as well.

1. Totally handicapped accessible

2. Two-room, w-bath

3. "Elder-apartment" to your home for a family member

This has become popular in some states that attract retirees (Essentially, a younger retiree 55-70+ years; taking care of a much older relative) This keeps the elderly relative out of a nursing home until, and when, they actually need skilled nursing care
