I still find the image of the cross made of the WTC beams on ground zero to be one of the most sad sights of 9/11. The WTC was knocked down by men who believed in their god so much that they thought crashing into our buildings while screaming "God is Great" would be a moral and rewarded act. So because brainwashed terrorists attacked the Trade Center, we're going to put up a symbol to express our pride in being equally brainwashed. And it's these two mindsets that will eventually nuke us all.

Government is it's own theocratic machine! It is a secular religion! With it's own seperate moral codes. He was talking about the possible future of america: Theocracy. Not too much different than Iran. Just Christianity instead of Islam. And that guy interrupting him should have been smacked by a Zappa infused right handed back hand.
Guys, an emperor, also known as a tyrant (or as a fascist politician nowadays), can not live a virtuous life. By definition.
He coerces other people into obeying him. He robs people. He kills people. He tortures people. He steers an economy that wants nothing more than to be set free. He enslaves people.
catholic saints, not christian saints. there is a big difference lol. there is a difference between reading the bible or any religious book and twisting it to fit your own desires and taking how it should be and how it was meant to be.
@matereo Yawhe has never been proven to exist and even if one day he was, I would never worship him cause he is an evil character. Secondly, I give credit to science for the advacements of medicine and technology and not to any mythical god. I also think humans should realize that things in life occur because of many different factors, which don't include any invisible Hebrew Mythology god or any other god..
@keaverkite Jesus doesn't exist and neither does the Hebrew Mythology god Yawhe! Nor does any other mythical god or character because it hasn't been proven otherwise. Even though this Yawhe character did exist, I would never, ever worship him because I am more moral than he is. Thank you science for all the human advancements, hate it when the Mythical sky daddy takes credit for the good things that occur in our lives.

@searchlight18 "judge a tree by its fruit and man by his sons." that's a quote from the bible and that quote doesn't mean anything about his sons. Its means judge a man by his CONDUCT not his appearance.
And Marc Aurelius seem to be a leader of good conduct compared to the others emperor . You treat philosophy as pagan work , well at least they are more rational than someone who follow some holy scripture of obscure origin!
@curiouscale What the fuck are you talking about ? You just tried to make a huge assumption about me through one simple comment on a youtube page. And why are you even trying to start some shit with me? Are you that bored with yourself? Fuck. Obviously I am not religious since I just broke the bible down to being a basic example of how to live before you die.... Honestly I don't believe Anything in the Bible because it has been re-written by bad leaders many many times.
@DankulousTV Excuse me? If you want to make a point against the bible, then why are you using a Christian motto that is solely used to glorify the bible? I'm happy that you don't agree with the nonsense of religion, but then why are you still citing it as an example of how to live before dying? By the way, my beef isn't necessarily with you; it's with ANYone who uses that ignorant motto you just used. If you're trying to point to the irony of the "B.I.B.L.E.," you could certainly be more clear.
@curiouscale You are not excused. You started this bullshit argument with me. It's obvious you've never read the Bible, because you associate it to religion way too much! Man made religion, the bible didnt. The bible is meant to be a basic guide or manual with stories used for examples. Dont fuck your neighbors wife, dont steal, dont gossip, dont kill people, stuff like that. You are targeting me because you're insecure about something, so get the fuck over it and leave me alone. IM NOT UR ENEMY
If you really think you succeeded at differentiating the bible from religion by using a Xian SLOGAN (which is NOT in the bible, btw, but a product of religion... PERIOD), then you simply failed. If you were trying to be ironic or funny, you also failed. So hey, I didn't "get it," but you can hardly blame me for that. The only thing you succeeded at was to be confusing and misleading, and make yourself sound like a Xian sound box. Better luck next time. I'm not your enemy either, btw. Peace.
@DankulousTV And it still sounds as if you're glorifying the "good book," whether you wanna call yourself Xian or not. You didn't mention the sections that say stone this person, gang-rape that daughter, praise and obey this slave master. Were you actually seriously implying that you WANT this as your instruction manual for how to live? If that's the case, that makes you no better than a Xian in MY book.
Maybe it's time someone from this century (or millenia) talked about the problems that we have IN this century. Jesus, was a smart guy he got people to BELIEVE that he was the son of GOD; Just because that happened two thousand years ago Does not make it a fucking fact.
@academiac9 Saying this as an atheist: Jesus was a great guy. His philosophy of how to live, were it carried out by everyone, would result in a really lovely world. "Turn the other cheek"? "Let he who is without sin among you cast the first stone"? Jesus hung out with whores and pariahs. It's not religion at fault, it's a few people's warped interpretations.
@100FingeredMonkey I used to agree with the whole "Jesus was a nice guy" method of keeping peace with those strongly connected with their faith, but a lot of what the bible describes him doing isn't something I would be proud of. Those jews who didn't believe in him, he called the children of the devil. He may not have be a violent person, but what ideas and concepts were spread because of this character, has been a factor in a lot of tension in today's world. These old ideas just aren't right.
@NewImperade The worst part about all this is that religion doesn't have to be like this. The problem is that the faith requires them to answer back to thousands of year old literature, when instead they should be creating their own new answers and ideas relating to spirituality and our reasoning for life. Many do that, but are still confined to answer to the wrongs of a past in their faith they didn't choose to have happen, and many ideas that they should believe in but don't anyway.
@100FingeredMonkey iunno man, someone who tells you to abandon all your friends and family without a second thought to go with him travelling from city to city seems kinda shady
Saying this as an atheist: Jesus was copied almost verbatim from individuals before him. You might want to read some of Confucius and the Buddha as well as the mythology Jesus' life was based upon before giving all the credit to Jesus.
@Amberdextrix I was a little unclear - I was talking about more was the concepts of Jesus, which can be surprisingly sensible/libertarian sometimes, considering some of what's done in his name
@100FingeredMonkey Dude Thank you...I Know so many people who give you Atheist guys a bad name. You my friend are truly enlightened. and I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
He was a great guy if he existed. You're basing your opinion on what MANY people have written, reinterpreted and regurgitated over 2,000 years. You don't know shit about Jesus and neither do I. No one knows that he actually said "Turn the other Cheek" and in fact, most decent, honest priests would say "kick that fucker in the balls if he hits you again".
@eqsmooth I'm talking about the idea of Jesus as presented in the Bible. "turn the other cheek" in the sense of letting others get on with whatever sin/crazy beliefs they want so long as it's not harmful to others. Also, it's pretty much agreed that he existed; there are roman records of a guy called Jesus starting up a cult. Probably not the son of god, but there you go.
@100FingeredMonkey What contemporary of Jesus are you claiming recorded his existence? I've made a study of the historicity of Jesus and there is absolutely NO contemporary evidence that he existed or that the events surrounding his life happened. The gospels get the history of Rome wrong and actually made up the census to put him in Bethelehem. I think it's more likely that 'Jesus' is an amalgam of several messianic figures living at the time.
@100FingeredMonkey I must disagree on the "Jesus was a great guy" statement. His philosophies were shit. "Turn the other cheek" is an invitation to more abuse, not an exhortation to non-violence. "Sell all your belongings and follow me" is ludicrous. So is "Have no thought for the morrow". And then there's "I come not to bring peace, but with a sword".
Jesus is commonly considered to be loving and peaceful until you read what he supposedly said. Thank goodness he's a myth.
I don't believe in any gods, yet I think i'm a pretty darn decent person... I have morality, I think religion locks people into ideology, & that leads to bad things. Arrogant belief in any god only leads to our own downfall.
God damn it, Frank Zappa, I've always believed this!
God damn it, you took the fucking words right out of my mind!
This is why I've always opted for psychology for moral and emotional comfort. It's based on behavior, on living a healthy, productive and balanced life within yourself, not because of some bullshit pseudo-theocracy which gets fed definitive rules someone came up with.
Islam and Christianity are cults if you ask a Jew. Judaism is a cult if you ask the Egyptians. Its all marketing if you ask me. Repackage old nonsense and make it new for new people. "It's all bullshit and it's bad for ya."
@bull1arab you be suprised what some people would kill for. It's not unimaginable that some deranged lunitic would loose his faith and kill because he believes without a supernatural deity there is no real absolute morality. But i take your point :)
"So, how's that religion stuff working out for you, humanity? It ran the world for 10's of 1000's of years, never accomplished anything, and when science reared it's head, you chopped it off. Then you had a plague that killed off most of the church hierarchy, after which science flourished. 400+ years of progress later, you decided it needs to die again. Thus you used the tools that science gave you to wage a global "Holy War". Now humanity, you are dying." - Message from the Post-Apocalypse.
@iEatBoneDust funny how the right always misses the point that unprovoked wars against defenseless, oil-rich countries has nothing to do with any interest in Islamic crimes and has everything to do with the US serving their own corporate interests.
You have it wrong. It is the left that are the Muslim fanatic supporters and what you seem to de-cry you hold up the culprits that keep it going. Get smarter and more wise, eliminate your confusion. READ! everything.
@Nvg8r1 I do not support Islam, I recognize that it is incompatible with the modern world and I think it's a poisonous idea, even among other organized religions it's especially violent and uncompromising, but it's a war that has to be waged and won with ideas, only good ideas can defeat bad ideas, military interventionism only causes suffering and anger. only through benevolence, secularism and education can we improve the lives of their people which may encourage them to reject Islam.
What happens when you die? Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins, was buried & resurrected)you'll not perish & have eternal life
there on the same side anyway human ego morailty is unnatural consider the lion it doz as it doz with no thinking of good or bad so morals being a human idear like god are all dumb ass things to live ur life by u know whats right an wrong for u naturaly dont think about it lurn what is natural an live in truth not silly human idearz god good an bad just idearz nature knows not of thez thingz an thats is a real god coz it give us life
All legislations have their origins in moral codes. It is also legislation that murder is considered a crime. This too can be found in religions. Zappa is selective in his pretentious moral indignation. Universal morality cannot be understood apart from theism. What exactly is morality in terms of behavior? If he is talking about conventional morality, then he is talking about something other than the Constitution, which attributes universal rights from God.
@Sage80 Morality comes from logic and reason. No need for an invisible man in the sky to understand what is moral. In fact, plenty of these invisible sky men are completely immoral. If we lived by the Judeo/Christian god's example. Rape, incest, slavery and war are all good things and women wouldn't have any voice.
@KornyKawby Morality comes from nowhere, it is an idea and nothing more. There's no such thing as right or wrong, those too are just concepts. If there's a God, you wouldn't even possess the ability to imagine it. It would be beyond everything your body and mind can think, or perceive. All this arguing about whether God exists or not is just noise, it's inconsequential. All these people trapped in a cell looking out a window and wondering if the window is real or not, when they could be escaping
@spracketskooch Morality doesn't come from "nowhere". Even basic science tells us that it comes from a desire to make things better for ourselves... and with the realization that that can best be achieved by making things better for everybody. The survival of our species may even depend on our desire to put each other before ourselves. We didn't just make morality up to make ourselves feel better. We need it if mankind is to have any chance at all of surviving.
Why are you talking about science and morality in the same breath? Morality is merely your view. It is not the same as the next person, who sees it moral to decapitate people with white skin. When you speak of morality you merely state what you think makes things better for everyone else. You dont get to decide. Nor does anyone. So morality is a waste of oxygen as a word, invented by the religious to substitute for the word 'rules'. For mankind to survive, we need civility.
@LARRYLONGSTRETH That's your problem, science is your god, everything must be laid at its feet to be judged as true or not. What is better? A subjective term I would think. You can't make it better for everyone, as soon as it starts to go one way you would deem better, here comes half the population with complaints. You're mistaken that we need morality to survive, in the wilderness your ability to survive depends on how ruthless you are. Society is a bunch of made up rules, just like morality.
@spracketskooch Science doesn't have feet. :P Scientific evaluation is a combination of mathematics, observation, preparation and consistent testing. It is a method for figuring out *specifics* of how things work, and to extend the span of understanding on a very detailed scale; not to judge whether or not something is true. We can often judge whether or not something *exists* based on raw information (not to be confused with interpretation, as you would through a book or word of mouth)
@spracketskooch Science is a profession, not a belief system. =p If a scientist argues an unvalidated *opinion*, then their theories will have *immense* difficulty getting beyond the stage of being passively humoured by their peers.
We trust credited researchers and scientists to be accurate in the same way we trust credited doctors or dentists to be accurate. Mistakes are made occasionally, of course, but less enthusiastically and/or frequently beyond a personal level.
@jaieet I would call something that influences the thought process, and decision making of anyone, a belief system. It's just not one in the traditional sense. Usually it's the people who argue their 'opinion' that push science forward. There's almost a club in science, the mainstream status quo people who have everything figured out. Then there's the fringe scientists who are suggesting things the mainstream finds ridiculous. So they shun the fringe and laugh, ten years later, fringe is right..

@spracketskooch A belief system is a series of beliefs rounded upon one single ideology. Science is not an ideology; just a series of different studies. You *could* argue that the studies are ideologies, but it is incredibly difficult to attribute thermodynamics or heart failure as reliant upon - pro or con - a belief system. :P
Sciences are an observation of;
Not explanations of.
Observation then leads into manipulation and recreation. Eventually, a man creates a television.
@spracketskooch (part 2. Sorry for the usage of space) The interesting part about the manipulation of the natural laws which these sciences relate to is that even men and women who are *not* prodigies among their peers can use this information every single day. Magnets were once the single most amazing scientific breakthrough in history. Why, Big Ben shook the foundations of an entire generation - and now clocks can be assembled by children in play sets.
@spracketskooch So there's an interesting assertion. The scientific method, in it's present form, has been around for about 400 years. Would you mind showing me who, in all this time, had a laughable idea that ended up turning the establishment on it's ear?
@spracketskooch Where ONE single lion may survive by being a killer... his entire species (and every other) will sooner or later drive itself to extinction because the law of the jungle DOES NOT WORK in the long term. Humans are the first to be able to see this, though some still struggle to see that far. It is logic... or "science"... but it's not my "God". It's just the greatest tool I have at the moment when making decisions. I don't bow, pray, thank, or sacrifice to it. I simply use it.
@LARRYLONGSTRETH What are you talking about man? Lions would all starve if none of them killed. They don't kill each other, but they still kill. According to science, they law of the jungle is what moves nature forward. The animals with the best mutations survive, while the weaker ones die off. Whether it's recognized by you as your god doesn't make any difference. All I'm saying man, is don't let logic be all there is, otherwise it is god. Do you only use your best tool? or all your tools?
@spracketskooch OK last go-around bc this is a little old. Yes, a lion would die if he didn't adhere to "kill or be killed". Our human capabilities and intelligence are too great to adhere to those laws any more. We are capable of destroying the entire PLANET. Those old rules DO NOT APPLY any more and will only lead to our doom. Morality, selflessness, and long-term thinking are our only chance for long-term survival. God's not required in order to see this. It's logic. Peace out.
Look guys, I know there are some christians and some atheists on here. Look, if you believe in God you believe in God. If you don't , you don't. Simple as that. Let's not try to force our beliefs on one another, okay?
I'm an atheist but there are some parables in the bible that make sense. One in particular, applies to what happened to America on 9/11: "you reap what you sow". All the years of meddling and interfering in Latin America, Far East Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe have come back to bite us in the ass. And we have no one [that means muslim terrorists] to blame but ourselves.
religion is for fools. I mean it's too obvious i can't imagine how narrow minded should a person be to believe in this crap. It was thought as a way to control people, to hold them into fear. It it's not better than any totalitarian regime, just replace the word "God" with "whatever dictator's name" and you'll get it. Now i know all you so called believers are brainwashed and prefer to handle all the responsibility to god, but truth is life is in your hands.
@0live0wire0 I don't have a problem with people being religious if they want to. I just hope they don't get angry at atheists or other religions or vice verser.
@DimensionsofChange I think it's very important to defend what you believe but it should be done as calmly as possible without trying to dictate your own view on anyone else. If I said I thought that a film was really good but one of my friends thought it was crap we would just accept eachothers views and not try to change them. It's basically the same as that :)
@DimensionsofChange That's when I believe it starts getting silly. But really it depends on what the political views are. But this is just my opinion man. Don't let it change you :)
@Django5198 I'll let other people change my views when I'm presented with reason. And, although everyone claims to say they believe in that, I really do believe in it.
didnt know how to respond directly to comments. fantasy0coach, there probably was some guy who was like some kind of show-preacher, who got enough of a following to build up his is image in the best movement of propaganda ever. There is more proof of Jesus being some batshit crazy homeless guy, then of him never existing. I know the proof is doubtful (speartip, belongings and such), but there probably was just some guy with morals.

You don't even understand the bible. God does not want to kill anyone, He wants to SAVE you from your sins, that's why He sent Jesus to take YOUR punishment. If you repent and trust Him you will realize God loves you.
Oh yes, Original Sin. So let's see if I get this right.
After having created sinful man, God contrived to get himself killed, in order to save man from His vengeful wrath, because it's only by the spilling of His own blood that can appease Himself and cleanse man's sin?
So by temporarily kicking the bucket, this act would save man from His botch job that He made of creation in the first place?
Must I even mention salvation? What a joke! Only a fickle, servile mind could possibly believe this!
Your statement doesn't make any sense. There are no other options available. Well at least not to man anyway. We are, allegedly, born sinful. The only other options involved, are those that God COULD have chosen - but didn't - prior to selecting this position of default that mankind, and mankind alone, finds himself in.
mezin, God did not make us sinfull, He gave us free will so we would chose to follow and love Him, but WE blew it when we used that free will to go against Him. You can't blame Him for YOUR sins.
John, I've just PMs you, so I'll be brief here. Let me ask you this. When a parent instructs their young child to act on a command, such as "Don't touch that hot pan!", do you think that the child has the ability to fully understand the ramifications of their actions, should they actually touch it?
Surely you'd agree that children, especially young children, are ill-equipped when it comes to their decision making skills, let alone their ability to understand the consequences of their actions.
(cont.)... The same could be said of Adam and Eve, they may have been brought into existence fully formed in body, but what about in mind? There is no way that Adam and Eve could have possibly known what God meant when he said "thou shalt surely die." There was no death in paradise, things simply didn't die, so how could they have known what God meant, or the severity of their actions? Free will is the ability to choose, when you know what the consequences are in advance. Adam and Eve didn't!
OK, this is my last installment, I promise (for now haha)!
OK, so the child ignores the parent, and burns its finger, this leaves a scar and a painful memory as a reminder of the event. Parents do not then additionally punish the child, and then punish all the other kids in the neighbourhood. Rather they threat the consequence of the action as a learning opportunity. God however did the complete opposite and then punished every single human being for his children's actions. This is crazy!
I call bullsh!t. If God is omniscient, which means he knows everything already (prior to, during, and after the event), then he knew we would fall and he still allowed it to happen - He created the very circumstance of our failure!
That suggests that he either isn't actually omniscient, doesn't care about us no matter "choices" we make, or doesn't exist. I vote for the latter.
You left out the part where Jesus took the punishment WE deserve so we can go to Heaven, so that ruins your "God doesn't care about us" statement. You vote for God not existing because you hate Him. You love your sin, and don't want to be punished for it. It would be better if you repent and trust Jesus for what He did for you.
John, honestly, I don't hate your God. I can't hate something I don't believe exists. In fact, I don't really hate anything. Should I also hate unicorns, fairies, leprechauns and little green men?
You say that we deserve punishment, and I saw that it is you, and other Christians (but not just Christians) who actually hate. I think it is sad that your entire religion is based upon the idea that we disappointed a "perfect" creator, who knew what he was doing and made us to fall, intentionally.
If my mother committed murder and gave birth to me while serving a life sentence, should I also have to serve a life sentence? Because I'm pretty sure it's been a few generations since Eve ate that damn apple but God won't let anyone off the hook :P
God does not punish you for Eve's sin. God punishes you for your own sins. Eve eating the apple, as well as Adam, is when we as humans became sinners, but we are responsible for OUR sins, which we ALL do. That's why you need Jesus.
@fantasy0coach: You are not listening to a thing I am saying. God DID "fix" things when He sent Jesus to die for us, and by the way, It was NOT God's fault for us sinning. You have free will and you CHOSE to sin. God would be right in punishing us all, but He proves He loves us by giving us an opertunity to be saved with Jesus. YOU reject it, so don't blame God.
I am listening to what you are saying, it is a ridiculous and childish fairy tale. We have knowledge now, we dont need to get our stories from ancient fools any more.
There is no god. There was no jesus. All fairy stories. we evolved.
@fantasy0coach ok, You just proved how ignorant you really are. Jesus existed. He is a historical FACT... even atheists know that, they just don't think He was God's son. They think He was a liar. It would be like me denying Charles Darwin ever existed so I can say evolution never happened. Also, Tell me what "knowledge" we have today that proves God doesn't exist... we have NOTHING. You deny Him because you don't want Him to exist.
Sorry John, but there is not one iota of evidence to suggest jesus lived. In fact, during his life, no one of the period, made any mention, of him or any other of the cronies in the fairy tale, the bible.....rather strange for people so noticeable...dont you think?
What knowledge do we have that proves god doesnt exist?...the same knowledge we have that proves invisible pink unicorns are not orbiting the moon. plus the fact we know how life began.....your book's claim, is completely wrong, proving at least, your god, could never have existed.....or is a complete moron.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow, so you are sticking to the "Jesus never existed" lie? Ok, well If you deny reality I can NOT say anymore. You are way too ignorant if you think Jesus didn't exist at all. And By the way, you do NOT know how life BEGAN. If you are refering to the fairy tale of evolution, that doesnt explain how life BEGAN, only how it might have "evolved" ... Evolution is a lot more fantasy then anyting in the bible. I feel sorry for you that you actually believe it.
Don't feel sorry for me John.....I am not the one living a neurotic life.
life began through abiogenesis. One cell. From that, all creatures and plants evolved. You have their dna.
Jesus, on the other hand, was a cartoon character made up by humans about 6 million years after life began. Do you have proof otherwise? i would love to hear it....lol.

Et cetera.

DankulousTV 3 months ago
@DankulousTV Excuse me? If you want to make a point against the bible, then why are you using a Christian motto that is solely used to glorify the bible? I'm happy that you don't agree with the nonsense of religion, but then why are you still citing it as an example of how to live before dying? By the way, my beef isn't necessarily with you; it's with ANYone who uses that ignorant motto you just used. If you're trying to point to the irony of the "B.I.B.L.E.," you could certainly be more clear.
curiouscale 3 months ago
@curiouscale You are not excused. You started this bullshit argument with me. It's obvious you've never read the Bible, because you associate it to religion way too much! Man made religion, the bible didnt. The bible is meant to be a basic guide or manual with stories used for examples. Dont fuck your neighbors wife, dont steal, dont gossip, dont kill people, stuff like that. You are targeting me because you're insecure about something, so get the fuck over it and leave me alone. IM NOT UR ENEMY
DankulousTV 3 months ago
If you really think you succeeded at differentiating the bible from religion by using a Xian SLOGAN (which is NOT in the bible, btw, but a product of religion... PERIOD), then you simply failed. If you were trying to be ironic or funny, you also failed. So hey, I didn't "get it," but you can hardly blame me for that. The only thing you succeeded at was to be confusing and misleading, and make yourself sound like a Xian sound box. Better luck next time. I'm not your enemy either, btw. Peace.
curiouscale 3 months ago
@DankulousTV And it still sounds as if you're glorifying the "good book," whether you wanna call yourself Xian or not. You didn't mention the sections that say stone this person, gang-rape that daughter, praise and obey this slave master. Were you actually seriously implying that you WANT this as your instruction manual for how to live? If that's the case, that makes you no better than a Xian in MY book.

Maybe it's time someone from this century (or millenia) talked about the problems that we have IN this century. Jesus, was a smart guy he got people to BELIEVE that he was the son of GOD; Just because that happened two thousand years ago Does not make it a fucking fact.
academiac9 3 months ago
@academiac9 Saying this as an atheist: Jesus was a great guy. His philosophy of how to live, were it carried out by everyone, would result in a really lovely world. "Turn the other cheek"? "Let he who is without sin among you cast the first stone"? Jesus hung out with whores and pariahs. It's not religion at fault, it's a few people's warped interpretations.
100FingeredMonkey 3 months ago 13
@100FingeredMonkey That said, constitution should not be based on any religion
100FingeredMonkey 3 months ago
@100FingeredMonkey I used to agree with the whole "Jesus was a nice guy" method of keeping peace with those strongly connected with their faith, but a lot of what the bible describes him doing isn't something I would be proud of. Those jews who didn't believe in him, he called the children of the devil. He may not have be a violent person, but what ideas and concepts were spread because of this character, has been a factor in a lot of tension in today's world. These old ideas just aren't right.
NewImperade 1 month ago
@NewImperade The worst part about all this is that religion doesn't have to be like this. The problem is that the faith requires them to answer back to thousands of year old literature, when instead they should be creating their own new answers and ideas relating to spirituality and our reasoning for life. Many do that, but are still confined to answer to the wrongs of a past in their faith they didn't choose to have happen, and many ideas that they should believe in but don't anyway.

He was a great guy if he existed. You're basing your opinion on what MANY people have written, reinterpreted and regurgitated over 2,000 years. You don't know shit about Jesus and neither do I. No one knows that he actually said "Turn the other Cheek" and in fact, most decent, honest priests would say "kick that fucker in the balls if he hits you again".
eqsmooth 2 weeks ago
@eqsmooth I'm talking about the idea of Jesus as presented in the Bible. "turn the other cheek" in the sense of letting others get on with whatever sin/crazy beliefs they want so long as it's not harmful to others. Also, it's pretty much agreed that he existed; there are roman records of a guy called Jesus starting up a cult. Probably not the son of god, but there you go.
100FingeredMonkey 2 weeks ago
@100FingeredMonkey What contemporary of Jesus are you claiming recorded his existence? I've made a study of the historicity of Jesus and there is absolutely NO contemporary evidence that he existed or that the events surrounding his life happened. The gospels get the history of Rome wrong and actually made up the census to put him in Bethelehem. I think it's more likely that 'Jesus' is an amalgam of several messianic figures living at the time.

@100FingeredMonkey
Totally with you, sir!!! :)
stevedabestperiod 1 week ago
@100FingeredMonkey I must disagree on the "Jesus was a great guy" statement. His philosophies were shit. "Turn the other cheek" is an invitation to more abuse, not an exhortation to non-violence. "Sell all your belongings and follow me" is ludicrous. So is "Have no thought for the morrow". And then there's "I come not to bring peace, but with a sword".
Jesus is commonly considered to be loving and peaceful until you read what he supposedly said. Thank goodness he's a myth.

Sage80 8 months ago
@Sage80 There is no such thing as universal morality. Humans try their best to make their own morality, and it doesn't always work out.
ThePsychoReturns 6 months ago
@Sage80 Morality comes from logic and reason. No need for an invisible man in the sky to understand what is moral. In fact, plenty of these invisible sky men are completely immoral. If we lived by the Judeo/Christian god's example. Rape, incest, slavery and war are all good things and women wouldn't have any voice.
KornyKawby 6 months ago
@KornyKawby Morality comes from nowhere, it is an idea and nothing more. There's no such thing as right or wrong, those too are just concepts. If there's a God, you wouldn't even possess the ability to imagine it. It would be beyond everything your body and mind can think, or perceive. All this arguing about whether God exists or not is just noise, it's inconsequential. All these people trapped in a cell looking out a window and wondering if the window is real or not, when they could be escaping
spracketskooch 6 months ago
@spracketskooch Morality doesn't come from "nowhere". Even basic science tells us that it comes from a desire to make things better for ourselves... and with the realization that that can best be achieved by making things better for everybody. The survival of our species may even depend on our desire to put each other before ourselves. We didn't just make morality up to make ourselves feel better. We need it if mankind is to have any chance at all of surviving.
LARRYLONGSTRETH 6 months ago
@LARRYLONGSTRETH
For mankind to survive, we need civility.
fantasy0coach 6 months ago
@LARRYLONGSTRETH That's your problem, science is your god, everything must be laid at its feet to be judged as true or not. What is better? A subjective term I would think. You can't make it better for everyone, as soon as it starts to go one way you would deem better, here comes half the population with complaints. You're mistaken that we need morality to survive, in the wilderness your ability to survive depends on how ruthless you are. Society is a bunch of made up rules, just like morality.
spracketskooch 6 months ago
@spracketskooch Science doesn't have feet. :P Scientific evaluation is a combination of mathematics, observation, preparation and consistent testing. It is a method for figuring out *specifics* of how things work, and to extend the span of understanding on a very detailed scale; not to judge whether or not something is true. We can often judge whether or not something *exists* based on raw information (not to be confused with interpretation, as you would through a book or word of mouth)
jaieet 6 months ago
@spracketskooch Science is a profession, not a belief system. =p If a scientist argues an unvalidated *opinion*, then their theories will have *immense* difficulty getting beyond the stage of being passively humoured by their peers.
We trust credited researchers and scientists to be accurate in the same way we trust credited doctors or dentists to be accurate. Mistakes are made occasionally, of course, but less enthusiastically and/or frequently beyond a personal level.
jaieet 6 months ago

Sciences are an observation of;
Not explanations of.
Observation then leads into manipulation and recreation. Eventually, a man creates a television.
jaieet 6 months ago
@spracketskooch (part 2. Sorry for the usage of space) The interesting part about the manipulation of the natural laws which these sciences relate to is that even men and women who are *not* prodigies among their peers can use this information every single day. Magnets were once the single most amazing scientific breakthrough in history. Why, Big Ben shook the foundations of an entire generation - and now clocks can be assembled by children in play sets.
Do not confuse information with belief :P
jaieet 6 months ago
@spracketskooch So there's an interesting assertion. The scientific method, in it's present form, has been around for about 400 years. Would you mind showing me who, in all this time, had a laughable idea that ended up turning the establishment on it's ear?
fdasherv 5 months ago
@spracketskooch Where ONE single lion may survive by being a killer... his entire species (and every other) will sooner or later drive itself to extinction because the law of the jungle DOES NOT WORK in the long term. Humans are the first to be able to see this, though some still struggle to see that far. It is logic... or "science"... but it's not my "God". It's just the greatest tool I have at the moment when making decisions. I don't bow, pray, thank, or sacrifice to it. I simply use it.
LARRYLONGSTRETH 6 months ago
@LARRYLONGSTRETH What are you talking about man? Lions would all starve if none of them killed. They don't kill each other, but they still kill. According to science, they law of the jungle is what moves nature forward. The animals with the best mutations survive, while the weaker ones die off. Whether it's recognized by you as your god doesn't make any difference. All I'm saying man, is don't let logic be all there is, otherwise it is god. Do you only use your best tool? or all your tools?
spracketskooch 6 months ago
@spracketskooch OK last go-around bc this is a little old. Yes, a lion would die if he didn't adhere to "kill or be killed". Our human capabilities and intelligence are too great to adhere to those laws any more. We are capable of destroying the entire PLANET. Those old rules DO NOT APPLY any more and will only lead to our doom. Morality, selflessness, and long-term thinking are our only chance for long-term survival. God's not required in order to see this. It's logic. Peace out.

Only a fickle, servile mind could possibly believe this!

why did he make us sinful ? why give us this option ?

Your statement doesn't make any sense. There are no other options available. Well at least not to man anyway. We are, allegedly, born sinful. The only other options involved, are those that God COULD have chosen - but didn't - prior to selecting this position of default that mankind, and mankind alone, finds himself in.

no other options ? how about none of this at all ? what's the point of this whole game anyway ?
mezin 2 years ago
mezin, God did not make us sinfull, He gave us free will so we would chose to follow and love Him, but WE blew it when we used that free will to go against Him. You can't blame Him for YOUR sins.

i don't remember asking for any of this ... who gave him the right ?

It would be better if you repent and trust Jesus for what He did for you.

lol @JintheUSA
No....we don't believe in your fantasy god for the same reason we dont believe there are invisible pink unicorns orbiting the moon.
fantasy0coach 2 years ago

TKDWolf 2 years ago
God does not punish you for Eve's sin. God punishes you for your own sins. Eve eating the apple, as well as Adam, is when we as humans became sinners, but we are responsible for OUR sins, which we ALL do. That's why you need Jesus.

Well obviously your great puppeteer lost control of one of the strings.
When i create things that malfunction....i either fix them, or toss them in the bin and start again.
fantasy0coach 2 years ago
@fantasy0coach: You are not listening to a thing I am saying. God DID "fix" things when He sent Jesus to die for us, and by the way, It was NOT God's fault for us sinning. You have free will and you CHOSE to sin. God would be right in punishing us all, but He proves He loves us by giving us an opertunity to be saved with Jesus. YOU reject it, so don't blame God.

@johnintheUSA
I am listening to what you are saying, it is a ridiculous and childish fairy tale. We have knowledge now, we dont need to get our stories from ancient fools any more.
There is no god. There was no jesus. All fairy stories. we evolved.
fantasy0coach 2 years ago
@fantasy0coach ok, You just proved how ignorant you really are. Jesus existed. He is a historical FACT... even atheists know that, they just don't think He was God's son. They think He was a liar. It would be like me denying Charles Darwin ever existed so I can say evolution never happened. Also, Tell me what "knowledge" we have today that proves God doesn't exist... we have NOTHING. You deny Him because you don't want Him to exist.
JohnInTheUSA 2 years ago
Sorry John, but there is not one iota of evidence to suggest jesus lived. In fact, during his life, no one of the period, made any mention, of him or any other of the cronies in the fairy tale, the bible.....rather strange for people so noticeable...dont you think?
fantasy0coach 2 years ago
And John,
What knowledge do we have that proves god doesnt exist?...the same knowledge we have that proves invisible pink unicorns are not orbiting the moon. plus the fact we know how life began.....your book's claim, is completely wrong, proving at least, your god, could never have existed.....or is a complete moron.
fantasy0coach 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
wow, so you are sticking to the "Jesus never existed" lie? Ok, well If you deny reality I can NOT say anymore. You are way too ignorant if you think Jesus didn't exist at all. And By the way, you do NOT know how life BEGAN. If you are refering to the fairy tale of evolution, that doesnt explain how life BEGAN, only how it might have "evolved" ... Evolution is a lot more fantasy then anyting in the bible. I feel sorry for you that you actually believe it.
JohnInTheUSA 2 years ago
Don't feel sorry for me John.....I am not the one living a neurotic life.
life began through abiogenesis. One cell. From that, all creatures and plants evolved. You have their dna.
Jesus, on the other hand, was a cartoon character made up by humans about 6 million years after life began. Do you have proof otherwise? i would love to hear it....lol.

FantasyOcoach said:"Jesus, on the other hand, was a cartoon character made up by humans about 6 million years after life began."
Actually, it'd be closer to 3 billion but your point still stands.

I enjoy a good fairy tale now then. This John person is more blind than a blind man though.
I think Jesus was an actual person, and that he had overwhelming charisma. These "miracles", however, were fiction.
He says that you don't know how life began, pretty sure he doesn't either lol. Wonder how far this life of being a puppet will get him.
