TARP was a Bush Administration item which had no strings attached for the banks. Obama had not been sworn into office at that time. Most Republicans backed this as well as Democrats. The US federal tax rates are at an all time low. The only time it's been lower was in the 1950s. You can't improve education, research and manufacturing if you don't have the money to invest. This includes the government, not just private enterprise.
No need to say no to "tax increase on middle class" because Obama has always made it clear that the tax rate won't be increased on this group. Social Security payments might be in question, either cuts or raising the retirement age. This would also mean unemployment would go up with older people staying in the workforce. Could be countered if trade and manufacturing is increased.
I am very disappointed, hearing talks that the white house supports tax cut for the wealthy, at the same time increasing taxes for the middle class by cutting social security benefits, which we already have paid for. Don't expect to be reelected if you make cuts in social security.
The media that is talking about the White House cutting taxes for the wealthy is a lie, a distortion to keep people up in arms. The wealthy are not going to get tax cuts. Federal taxes on the middle class is not going to be increased. Instead of cuts in social security, the age limit will likely be increased. Of course, this could drive up unemployment with older workers staying in the workforce longer. Maybe a new normal of 9% unemployment in future.

Some would say that just happened in the mid-term election with the Republican victories in the House. Marching doesn't fundamentally fix the situation. The US is using the wrong economic model and must change that model and better mix in manufacturing and exports. President Obama is trying to do exactly that and will face resistance from Republicans and Democrats in Congress. Still it's the right thing to do now, not later.
The risk of feds and the other financial and political whores running a new economic model off track should never stop the push for this. Those are ever-present risks and we must be prepared to mitigate those risks.

You will have to ask Bush why he hid $1.7 TRILLION from the 2008 budget that Obama included in 2009, raising the deficit by that amount. Bush and Republicans wanted to show economic progress under their tax cuts and attempted to delay showing the $1.7 TRILLION until Obama took office.
I wouldn't be so fast to assume Republican victory in 2012, much will happen in 2 years.

TARP was a Bush Administration item which had no strings attached for the banks. Obama had not been sworn into office at that time. Most Republicans backed this as well as Democrats. It was a hugely effective scare tactic, almost like the tactics used after the 9/11 attacks for Bush to get just about anything he wanted after the 9/11 attacks. After Obama was sworn in, strings were attached and the banks quickly paid the money back.

Social Security payments might be in question, either cuts or raising the retirement age. This would also mean unemployment would go up with older people staying in the workforce. Federal taxes on the middle class is not going to be increased. Instead of cuts in social security, the age limit will likely be increased. Some would say that just happened in the mid-term election with the Republican victories in the House. Marching doesn't fundamentally fix the situation. The US is using the wrong economic model and must change that model and better mix in manufacturing and exports. President Obama is trying to do exactly that and will face resistance from Republicans and Democrats in Congress. Still it's the right thing to do now, not later.

He's made it easier for students to get loans and more money for college or trade schools. He's moving in the right direction by promoting the trades and promoting American exports.
