Do you cycle the water? Do you use a filter? Do you use a tank instead of a fish bowl?

You need all of these to keep a fish well. Goldfish should be able to live at least 10 years provided they have at least 10-20 gallons per fish.

I love my goldies just the way they are, but it would certainly be fun to train them. :) I already taught them how to come with hand signals and fish food. It does work on goldfish, but you have to do it for the same time each day and be patient.

Fish having 3 second memories is merely a myth and has not been proven under any circumstances. In fact there is more proof that you can train gold fish tricks and make them remember things, than there is proof that they have 3 second memories.

Gold fish grow as large as the tank you put them in.... Lets say you get a massive fish tank... You will end up with a 5-10 pound gold fish in a few years....

Though this applies to most fish out there that you can get naturally from a pet shop.... Why a fish would want to eat a plastic toy ball.... I have no idea.

Do you how LONG it takes for a normal little gold fish to get that big? They usually die first because people forget to feed them or clean the tank. Also they only grow relative to the environment. And 5-10 pounds is pretty inaccurate... Maybe like a half pound, 1 pound at best.

I'm pretty sure click training is a simple classical conditioning technique so the same effects could be achieved from food rewards as well.
